So some specifics about my situation, I'm a former Marine and now in the Army Reserve. So now i am a specialists or something, stuck in a unit where I am told I will not be promoted because there no slots available for E-5 and spend my time just sitting around every drill weekend. I have already completed my military obligation, have not re-classed yet, all my health is good and APFT as well. The Army Reserve is just not for me and would like to full fill my original contract that i had with the IRR. Sorry if i sound whiny, but i would not like to waste 3 years of my time and the Army just showing up to drill every month and doing nothing.

I'd say not even knowing your own rank is not a good way to start up or get promoted in any organization.

If you can't get out of the contract, get a meeting with your first sergeant and battalion career counselor. Be up front with them, and see if one or both of them can get you an assignment that will be more your speed. There won't be many units in the Reserves that will compare with the Corps if any, but you can find units that actually train.

yes i was active 8404 corpsman with the marines went army reserves definately culture shock, but as said get with career counsellor, and try to find your niche, if you want to stay in get reclassed into a position or mos that you like, maybe consider active usmc again or army, but you need to definately get with career or retention counsellor

Well Devil Dog it was a different culture for alot of us. I know alot of marines i was with that transferred over including me. Even though i have a couple years active duty in the army too there is a big difference. The only reserve unit i ever been in is a Drill Sergeant unit and i would say they are totally different then any other units i have seen. The only other unit i can say i have seen do as much as us ect is civil affairs. If you are in a promotable status look for the closest Drill Sergeant unit. IF you have already full filled your obligation a Career Counselor can help you back into the IRR.
