A Soldier wants me to write a memorandum to remove unsatisfactory performances from over a decade ago. Is this possible?

A Soldier just transferred to a retention unit where the unit administration saw a large amount of Us on the Soldier's record.

Since I was the Soldier's last commander, the retention unit wanted me to remove the Unsats from 2011 to the present (I wasn’t even in the military in 2011)

The Soldier stated that they RSTd and made up those days, but I never saw any RST paperwork. I understand any commander she’s under, can remove her past U’s.

If there is no RST Paperwork nor any 1380s to prove otherwise, then the request is moot. How many U's in a 12 month period did they accrue? I've been in the Reserves a long time and I have never heard of an MFR to remove U's from the record.

A commander can only change a U to an A with a sufficient documented reason from the Soldier (medical emergency, etc).
An RST is something approved by the commander prior to drill and coded as a K during drill, then paid out when duty is performed.
The window for either of these actions is within 90 days of the scheduled drill.

CPT Private RallyPoint Member For the reasons that SGM Jeff Mccloud highlighted, I would recommend you not to do it if I were your 1SG or BN CSM. I wouldn't even advise you to remove a "U" that another CDR gave without speaking to them first.

The "U's" roll off after 365 days for separation consideration; the reason they are trying to get them off is either prepare to "retire" them or clean up some ARCAMs. I would let your 1SG work with them to dig up any paperwork that ~might~ exist for exusals or RST. Then, if they want them off, their CDR and MACOM can assume the risk of sorting through all the paperwork.

Curious........... does removing U's merely result in "excused absences"? Having one less "U" doesn't grant a retirement point.
