Understanding that every leader has the opportunity to set standards and policies for his/her post... Is this the best answer for standards that are universal to all Army posts? With respect to many post policies throughout the Army there seems to be an unseen challenge to exceed the standard to the point that it becomes a whole separate standard. Using the PT belt as an example. Every post has a separate distinct standard. From; one color belt, to vests with name and rank, "pin on" rank on the belt, different color belts for different ranks, wearing during dark hours only. What are your views on the variance in post policies? Does the Army stand to benefit from consolidation?

I'm going to have to agree with SFC Merino. However, I also think somethings do need to be standardized across the map, such as the reflective device worn for PT and PPE required to operate a motorcycle.

To me it seems that some leaders can not leave well enough alone. These leaders try to set themselves apart and that is when the "Good Idea Fairy" comes into play. The Army has set one standard that we must abide by, so who are these leaders to set additional standards because we do not agree fully with those. All changes should have to be passed up through the proper channels and if Big Army agrees with them, then the change should be approved.

I think there needs to be a little latitude to accomodate environmental changes, etc.
