I recently shared a post on the million student march protest for free higher education. I understand that this would cause tremendous issues with taxes, job competitiveness inflation, etc...
I got negative comments about sharing and supporting this issue. Free tuition I'm ok with but the rest is over baring.
What are your thoughts, and please share your professional view to help my self and others understand this hot topic.

There is no such thing as a free education. Someone has to pay for it and in this case, it will be the tax payers. And what do they get in return? Does someone with a B.A. in Gender Studies really contribute to society? If we have "free" education, there is no one holding the students responsible on their end for becoming productive members of society. The only way I would support any kind of free education is with some kind of payback just like an ROTC scholarship. So in a sense it would not be free but a transaction.

The sheer magnitude of all the existing education debt could not be paid. I certain it is in the Trillions of Dollars.

Sounds like a parenting fail. There is nothing free in this world. NOTHING!

When you just give with no financial or intellectual investment from the student, they are not 'married' to the result. If they want something, let them work for it. Why on earth do they think they rate any money earned by someone else to pay their bills?

At times, some are not financially able to sustain their education and themselves taxing their overall education. The only ones that would benefit from a no cost tuition system would be those with the right grades and right attitudes that would be monitored by this hypothetical free education system. FASFA runs along these lines already.

You get what you pay for sir. There js no such thing as a no cost tuition. Someone has to pay the bill. You see what a "no cost" health insurance for some looks like now. Imagine that same technique applied with the same deep seated corruption causing the education system to fail in a similar fashion.
