(granted I love history) Spent less than 120 a night for my hotel and I could see congress from it (used priceline) and you can walk EVERYWHERE and see so much of our history and culture. there is literally a monument or some interesting fact every 50 feet. then there is all the museums (I recommend SPY and NEws museum)food is relatively inexpensive and no cab or transit fair is needed. Ive been to 32 states and 9 countries...DC is my favorite. The water and beaches are as pretty there as you'll find anywhere, as far as I'm concerned. Destin is located in between Panama City and Pensacola in the panhandle region of FL. If you wish to be there in July, you need to check it out now! Don't think it's a "drive too far"! Whenever I'm there, all I can see are Ohio and Michigan license plates!

http://www.benningmwr.com/destin-resort/

Destin Army Recreation Area | BenningMWR

Welcome to Fort Benning’s premier vacation destination. For $100 you can have the greatest weekend of your life. All you need is your house (or any roof where the inhabitants let you stay), alcohol, and maybe a few dollar cheeseburgers from the local grease-pit/restaurante.

I haven't been on vacation in a while. I guess my standards are pretty low. But, I'm easily entertained. We get some good car rental deals on govvactionrewards.com and get free tickets to all seaworlds in the US and busch gardens for free once a year. If you have a family of four and five, that is a huge savings. the website to get the free tickets is http://wavesofhonor.com/. also you can try Wilderness at the Smokies in Gatlinberg, Tn. Its is a very nice resort town that most people do not know and they are military friendly. The airlines give discounts, you just have to be nice on the phone..lol. It helps to be enrolled in their mileage programs as well. Husband wanted a change from going to the beach and amusement parks, such as Florida or SC or NC and he wanted to introduce our children to another part of the country.
