A suicidal person is still perfectly capable of opening a gun safe, getting a bottle of pills from the bathroom, or getting a knife from the kitchen, etc.

Furthermore, any gun intended for defense in the event of a home invasion/intrusion is of little use if it is locked away in a manner that makes it cumbersome for the members of the household to retrieve and use if needed. If kept stored at all instead of carried on one's person, such guns are typically kept in a quick-access gun-safe (recommended), a hidden compartment, a closet, or even in a bedside drawer--either loaded and ready for use, or else with a loaded magazine next to it.

Any gun not designated for immediate response use *should* be kept locked up in a proper gun safe/cabinet to prevent unauthorized access by children/houseguests, but that won't stop a suicidal owner from getting to them.Response by Sgt James S. made Aug 19 at 2020 11:08 PM2020-08-19T23:08:21-04:002020-08-19T23:08:21-04:002020-07-31T10:37:37-04:00
