I have several friends who have been diagnosed due to bad landings (feet, a$$, head) etc. I myself have been knocked myself out on a jump. We know what happens when the chute opens and the riggers didn't pull out the stones and branches, or when your head slams into the ground on a 25 knot jump, or...

I will volunteer to take the money if offered for a study, though. You can only do so many feet-ass-head landings. Especially on a runway. That's aside from a trooper slamming into the side of a vehicle, a tree, or other DZ obstacle. Helmets are ballistic protection, not a motorcycle helmet.
