The school is roughly 5 and a half months long, I am trying to figure out if it will be tdy en-route or tdy and return to current station and clear post at that time. Thanks in advance for any help. If they do not clearly state that, perhaps jump to your S1 and get clarification Response by MSG Private RallyPoint Member made Aug 16 at 2016 4:29 PM 2016-08-16T16:29:24-04:00 2016-08-16T16:29:24-04:00 SGM Erik Marquez 1811014

Do you have orders yet? what do they say?
Are you due to PCS?
Is the new MOS available and in need at your current duty station?
Have you asked your retention NCO?
Have looked at the ATTRS catalog for that school when done for reclass? Some of them want you to take TDY en-route, but others don't. Same goes for units on both ends. A lot of medical MOS' have Phase 1 and Phase 2. For instance, when I reclassed to 68WM6 (68C now) I went TDY and return for Phase 1 for 8 weeks, returned and PCSed to my Phase 2 for 46 weeks. The school will be TDY enroute, unless it's a PCS length school. If it's a PCS length school, your orders will have the school as your duty station. If it's TDY enroute, your orders will be for your next duty station with the school dates written within the orders. If it's multiphase training, your orders will be for your phase 2 location.
As a rile of thumb, almost always TDY enroute. It's only TDY and return if your unit pays for the school.
However, at your levy brief you can designate that you want to return to clear afterwards. That is TDY enroute with authorized return to clear. I've reclassed twice and both were TDY enroute. Just expect and plan for TDY enroute. Best of luck. I am doing the same for a six-month school that I'm going to. It should have been a PCS but the Army is not letting anybody PCS right now. The only way people are getting TDY in route is if the Army knows their next duty station before they even start the TDY. You're probably going to have to go down there to your school and come back to clear your base and then PCS.
