Like any other tool in the workplace, it needs to be used appropriately in order to maximize its advantages while limiting its disadvantages. To that end, I would propose the following rules of engagement for a military workplace.
- Not allowed to use social media unless it was directly related to the performance of one's job (such as unit web page manager, commander/1SG/CSM input to that page, FRG, etc). Enforced at first line supervisor level.
- Not allowed to pull out a BB or an IPhone during a meeting (look around even during GO briefs to who is not paying attention). Enforced at first line supervisor level.
- Use of Internet limited to those sites needed to perform one's job. Hard to limit this since many sites can help help the military get educated/informed and/or pull information. Enforced at individual level.
- NEC determine sites that are off limits and blocks access to those sites. Enforced at NEC level. Heck, just walk downtown & you notice about 60% of the people aren't even watching where they are going, they're too busy staring down at their phone!!!

It definitely takes away from the productivity as they check social media. We are constantly getting emails about staying off personal devices & not to plug personal devices into work computers. I think I would add some internet limits for example. There are a lot of interesting edtech startups as https://techround.co.uk/startups/top-7-education-technology-startups-in-2022/ that may help to fix the time management of employees. Unfortunately, you can't fix it 100% because of a human factor. You also must analyze how it affects the company as a whole. There are a lot of remote companies with no control and they have a great results.

Top 7 Education Technology Startups in 2022

The rise of educational technology shows no signs of slowing down, with more and more edtech companies coming up with newer and better products and services than before.
