If you need medical attention a lot of times they will send you out to civilian doctors in Colorado Springs. The hospital was built in 85 if I recall right. And they're always adding on. Getting prescription drugs though sometimes it can be a long wait though Response by SSG Leonard Johnson made Sep 5 at 2015 10:05 PM 2015-09-05T22:05:43-04:00 2015-09-05T22:05:43-04:00 SSG Private RallyPoint Member 944545 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Fort Carson is the most amazing place you could imagine being stationed. I would love to go back. If I could and I might I would retire there. If you like the outdoors then your in heaven. If you like night life then your in heaven. Your about 50 mins from Denver. Best place to be. If you hate your job, which I doubt you do, going off post is more of a college town then anything else. Halloween costumes are worn outside of puffy jackets and kids give up after 10 houses. Evans was home to my 2 boys and they had a great doctor. Both were complex cases and they got great care. It is nice having the Air Force Academy there as well. Between the two places, we never required an outside consult. Of course it was much better there when the OH-58D&#39;s were stationed there with 3rd ACR. Lots of natural beauty. Just stay away from Cripple Creek. My ex spent all our savings gambling there for her contribution of OIF I. Fort Carson is absolutely great, if you&#39;re a runner you will love it, if you hike you&#39;ll love it. There&#39;s a lot of outdoors activities to do in the surrounding area. Downtown nightlife is solid and the ski slopes are just a few hours away. Evans is solid, I&#39;ve had a procedure there and two of my children were born there. My wife and I both enjoyed the staff and the dining facility there is one of if not the best on Carson. Gate 20 gets destroyed with traffic, don&#39;t use it. Check out the river walk in pueblo, best sloppers in Colorado! 16th street in Denver is great for bar hopping! Tejon st in the springs is where you go to party close by. Make sure that you run a lot before you get here or else you will lose your breathe walking up the stairs. Anything else, just ask. Lost of stuff to do off post. Post is decent sized, has a few gyms, outside pool running/ biking trails. You will need to get out and run to get used to the altitude no joke. I recommend the trail that goes around the golf course/ driving range. Drivers suck in co springs and surrounding areas. I definitely don't miss that crap. But it's beautiful there. Running the garden of the gods trails are pretty great too. Pikes peak is worth a drive up the mountain, and even venturing up to Denver was worth it. I'd go back to Carson in a heartbeat. Evans was great. I am sure a lot has changed since then. They were building a lot of new housing when I was there. I worked at the Hospital and the people I worked with were great. My family and I received great health care and not just because I was one of the staff. The post is beautiful and they have a great R&amp;R program. Outdoor Rec has great facilities to use. The only drawback I saw when I was there is that it was so dang expensive but since then the Army has made changes to combat the expenses. Meaning that the area Colorado Springs and Denver area are great, I have met some of my best friends here. training is brutal depending on where you go. hardest working group of soldiers I have been with. run run run, drink water drink water. just the nature of the beast. moral is down a bit due to training schedule and last min hey you tasking but then again all depends on where you go. stay flexible and you will be ok, also Carson likes to hold on to people forever and bring them back.
