I purchased whole life policies (American Family out of Madison, Wisconsin) for my children when they were just days old. When they reached four years old I didn't feel this policy was gaining value as I was led to believe so I purchased each another policy from State Farm. It wasn't really for the insurance but the cash value of the policies when they turn sixty-five. Each will have right around a half million bucks when they cash in minus whatever the federal government steals from them. FYI, the State Farm policies are out producing the American Family policies by over a two to one margin in dividends despite being in force four less years.
Wish my parents were smart enough to do this for me when I was young!

Bottom line, insurance isn't just for adults. Buy while your children are young. Better rates and more time for cash build up!
