The Chinese state-controlled Media is calling for gun control in the US. I'd like to hear your thoughts on that. Personally, my first thought is that if our Government keeps growing our debt to China, it would sure make calling in those markers easier for a country that surely must run out of real estate one of these days.

Whenever I hear anything about China, I start getting nervous. The U.S. Can't cowdown to what other countries want US to do. I don't know if Obama is cajoling with the Far East, Middle East, and Russia about gun control but it would be good for them and bad for us. Is he going to attempt to change the Second Amendment to comply with what other countries want? I don't think that dog will hunt. I hope so anyway. Damn, I'll be glad when he's gone. I know he's going to try to leave a legacy before he's outta here. I pray it doesn't our Second Amendment rights.

I definitely think they are setting a precedent for laying the ground work for an invasion.

However, I may have been dreaming this, the US was offering real estate to China in form of payments for debts...now that would be scary.

A gun behind every blade of grass, we cannot ever waiver from this basic right. That is.... unless this administration goes after that right during his last 2 years....but then again, we could have the same for another 4-8 years with Billary.....I will go underground before they take a my thing from me.

If they think I will surrender mine, they've lost their minds.

In our doctrine for sniper defeat, there are three classifications of this combatant type.

-The trained sniper: we may not have that many of them, but they're world class and damn good.

-The trained marksman: he could be an SDM, talented sport shooter, or successful hunter. We have millions of this type of shooter. This is probably what our enemies worry about most.

-The armed irregular: this could be anyone with a half decent rifle, and little or no training. These are relatively ineffective until they gain training or experience. The US would spawn even more millions of these should someone attempt invasion. Eventually some really talented shooters will come from this classification. Remember, there are more gun in the United States in private ownership, than people.

This is why they want gun control here. To mitigate a threat that cannot be ignored on the strategic or tactical level.

I bet China and a few other countries would love to see an unarmed American society. It would make the take over of the Country much easier for them. I do want 'gun control' but not what the Peoples Republic of China is talking about. I think all gun owner should be aware of the weapon they own and make sure they can properly use and control their firearms.

I'm defiantly not the most educated or experienced one in this conversation but I was born with a bottle in one hand and a rifle in the other, it's the American way, it's freedom. That is something the people raised in a Communist country will never understand. The fact that they are worried about the ratio of guns to people in a forgin country is rediciculous. Regardless of the debt that we owe them. I have heard theories that state that that debt is the reason we invaded the middle east, to develop a sense of stability in the region for the industrial diamond mines there. That aside, this country was formed as a result of nonconformity and we shouldn't just bow down to another country when our way of doing things goes against their beliefs. Reading some of these comments make me feel like very few of them have actually read the story. First off this article is about the Sandy Hook Shooting that happened in December of 2012. Other then the fact that is is a state run newspaper, I see very little "we demand gun control"

The newspaper is merely stating facts with a more Leftist perspective. Considering the circumstances around the shooting, and the others of that same year, maybe the US should have a serious discussion on how to properly control, secure, and keep track of firearms as well as better ways to deal with mental ill people.

I am not saying take away guns from everybody, but maybe better education on firearms, better treatment of the mentally ill and maybe take a look at how the way the media portrays these incidents should really be talked about.

Honestly if this topic was on anything other then firearms people would be up in arms about regulation, just look at how "Unsafe at Any Speed" changed automobile safety regulations.

First, when the gun control advocates here in America get up on their soap box the net result is usually a huge jump in gun sales, so why would we care what the Chinese think?

Second, our "debt" to China is bonds. Good old U.S. Savings bonds. They can't repossess anything, even if they cashed in all the money they've invested in the stock market and caused a recession they would only "cut off their nose to spite their face" because a recession means we don't buy as much of the goods that they import.

I served as the Assistant U.S. Army Attaché to China (1983-1984). A lot has changed in China since then, but one thing hasn't changed. The Chinese government and state controlled press are all about criticizing the U.S. and others while concealing their own problems. Somewhere between 3 and 5 thousand Chinese are executed each year, many for crimes no one would receive the death penalty for in the U.S. The Chinese legal system is a sham. First you confess then you get a trial. The Chinese do not tolerate political dissent. Their jails are full of "counter revolutionaries." The Chinese don't own semi-automatic pistols and rifles because if they did their guns would be confiscated and they would be thrown in jail. China's human rights record is abysmal. The People's Republic of China has no business criticizing the U.S. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

China is the only one we need to worry about. I've read about other countries as well, ie. Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Iran, Cuba.... think about it, these guys have their own problems and definitely most of them wouldn't engage the U.S. as it's not feasible and no point. China however needs some land and access to resources (this will be a problem for Russia too, they have have even more of both). I think it has to do with the debt, and them taking a jab, as it doesn't hurt them either way, perhaps paving way for some unacceptable scenario in the future.

It's possibly just a counter-argument for how we 'stick our nose' into the business of other countries by demanding they improve their Human Rights laws, or do more for the environment, or stop allowing our companies tax havens, etc etc. It's an easy target subject, plus as mentioned above on the really odd chance they decide to invade in the future it makes it easier for them if less of us are armed.

I would not be surprised if the real reason would be to one day to try an invasion. After all Germany invaded a country, demanded gun registration lists OR registering guns only to have the weapons confiscated real quick. That was one of several reasons that the people of Germany were not able to mount a successful overthrow of Hitler.
