The Chisolm trail will be 150 next year and a cattle drive from TX-KS is planned. I'm planning on riding alongside the doggies. Anyone else?

One hundred fifty years ago, settlers began the trek across the plains on what would become known as the Chisolm Trail. In 2017, a reenactment is planned. The kickoff was in Abilene KS where the drive will end. It will begin in Ft Worth Texas with a dance and celebration at the stockyards. I have a goal. Applications require a photo of period dress and experience. All skills http://www.chisholmtrail150.org/

I like steak too much to risk emotionally bonding with cows. It's why I do not hunt.

SCPO Jason McLaughlin Santa has a good reason not to hunt either. I shoot much better with a camera. SP5 Thomas Zielinski you'll appreciate this picture.

Maj Kim Patterson - I saw the movie City Slickers so I know what happens when you take a New Yorker and put him on a cattle drive. They end up coming home with a baby cow. Not gonna happen to me!

SCPO Jason McLaughlin my sister was born in NY, me in MA and my brothers in CT. Guess who learned to drive a JD and had cattle eating out of her hands last weekend! (I had backhoe qualification and experience in the service) And a couple of boy calves dropped so I have one already!

Maj Kim Patterson - I went to a local fair when I was stationed in Canada, 10 years ago. They had a 4-H exhibit and there were some baby cows on display. I started petting one and the little bugger started using my fingers as a pacifier. I was off red meat for months.....

How do you find the information on the ride? I went to the web site but couldn't find anything.

Maj Kim Patterson - I didn't find it, but I'll try to check on FB for it. Thanx! I'd enjoy helping do equine therapy for vets, maybe there'll be one close by our area soon.

SP5 Mark Kuzinski MAJ Tex Hall Guess who is back in the saddlle! And joining in the festivities on 1 October in Abilene! And practicing my cattle handling skills by hand feeding some black angus heifers. They like my squirrel calls.

Glad to hear your healing has progressed to this point... Haven't been on a Cattle Drive since I was 23 and worked on one on My Ex's Uncle's Ranch in Northern California, I'm 63 now, I don't think I'd have it in me to do that again...
Good Luck Major Kim and God's Speed Young Lady!

Sounds like an awesome idea, I'll have to look into that. Hopefully it won't include cold times since my cold weather injuries from the past could bite me again ;)

MAJ Tex Hall it begins 1April 2017 in San Antonio for the longhorn drive. When it gets to Kansas, it goes through Clearwater, Goddard, and Abilene. My guess is by 1Oct.
