Here's what it really boils down to.

Ignore the benefits. Screw the benefits. They don't matter. They absolutely do not matter.

How much does the Patriot Act infringe on essential liberties? Does it give the US Government more Power than it should have? Would the Framers of our Constitution have allowed any of the provisions had it presented to them?

That's what I want to know?

Now... the big one that comes into play is the "gag orders" and the inability to challenge or seek aid from legal representation. Additionally the "sneak & peak" warrants...

Let's be real here. There may be "legal" but they are in no way "right" or "correct." They can only be called Slimy, and a perversion of Justice. That's abuse of Government Power. Maybe for a Noble end.. but I don't want my government doing noble things covered in muck.

The GOP has been splintered After Reagan . George W. Bush caused the biggest financial melt down since 1929 . We need someone like Ross Perot who warned that NAFT would cause a financial melt down in 1988 when NAFT was first introduced . He understood the military and what is like to be a Veteran . Where is the GOP going to find any one like him to run ? If there is someone like him, I am sure they don't want to be president .

The truth is that if this wasn't tripping them up, something else would. As much as I hate to say it, Hillary Clinton will win this election simply because the Republicans won't be able to field a viable candidate that is acceptable to all of the party. Frankly, I think that is exactly what the Clinton camp is counting on.

SGT (Join to see), I can appreciate your frustration with the seemingly endless bickering and inaction that is Washington, but allow me to offer you another perspective:

I am by no means an expert, but it seems that the founders designed a certain level of dysfunction into the way our system was designed, and that may actually be a very good thing. If we had a government that got along too much, that argued much less, then we may be saddled with even more laws, debt, and governmental controls than we have now. The Founders of our country designed it to be citizen centric, to default to the individual liberties seen as inherent. The lack of action in Washington is one of the oddly effective protections built into our system of governance, and maybe that is quite aggravating at times, but maybe it is one of the long standing successes of our republic.

Her is my sanerio, Hillary run and win. Her VP has to step down, she nominates Bill as VP. Then she resigns and we get Bill for another 3+ years. He was not elected so it can happen.

MSG (Join to see), I completely agree, and it was a mistake for me to not mention that part. I think that a certain level of dysfunction is not only likely, but very much needed and vital to make our government work. It's like when a car has a small fuel problem that sputters until you flood in some gas. The problem I was keying on was more like a car with a class II leak. Will it run? Yeah. Will it eventually completely break down if you don't fix it? Yeah. Partisanship has gone WAYYYYY to far towards a full leak than the simple small sputter it was designed with.

Great points though, I agree 100%.

GySgt Wayne A. Ekblad Unfortunately, I too believe this to be true. The phrase "divided we fall" comes to mind.
