There still should be a few old salts left here. M-60 or 240-B. Which do you prefer?

I was a believer in the pig, nothing compares to the sound, the amount of lead projected and the simplicity of the M60.....after using the 240 though.....I gotta tell you, it is one hell of a gun and performs better than the 60.

M240 over the M60. I had a buddy in the intial push of Iraq and when they saw a Seabee with a M60 they asked why we did not update to the 240 yet.

Having fired both, and lugging them all over gods green,brown and white earth, i can honestly say that i liked and trusted my pig more than the 240..B\D.
Only issue was all of the dang parts but i knew each one well enough to assemble it in the dark. Practice^3.

Having carried both, M-60 seemed a bit more robust. Like an AK. The 240 was great as well, bit more technical like the M-4a4.

The M240 is a far superior weapon than the M60 in all aspects. It is much more accurate and reliable than the pig. It is just as easy to disassemble and maintain if not easier and, it will continue to fire reliably if it gets dirty/no time to change the barrel, etc.

I was brought up on the M60 as well but, they did it right when they built the 240.

I'll stick with what I know ! Having carried the M-60 in Vietnam I would still carry it today ! I would need to see and fire the 240 and maybe I could change my mind

I actually got to play with an M60 not too long ago. I am not a fan of it. I didn't find it to be on par with a M240. It has a slower rate of fire for one. I don't like the ergonomics either.

I'm definitely not an "old salt" yet, and FAR from an expert on capabilities of either; but I trained on both at varying times. The things I "didn't like" about either weapon were pretty much the same (weight). However, I have to admit that I liked the 249 better...lighter, easier to track with, etc.

Funny story; had a Soldier offer me a good-natured "challenge" on the range one time while training our ANA. We used the 240, and the goal was to see who could not only hit, but move a stone in a direction chosen by the other...I can't be certain of range this many years later. I ended up "winning" because after we both moved our respective stones, more of mine's "mass" remained intact-LOL

I don't know about the 240-B, we got the 240-G about 9 months or so before I got out and I loved the hell out of it.

I prefer the 240B over the pig. But I much prefer the M-60 over the M-243.

I still think the M-60 was a great weapon, but the 240 is more reliable.
