Consolidation of resources and facilities makes sense in some cases. In the case of Holland, he was a Master at Arms, so Security Forces is not a stretch. He apparently understood the responsibility of being the "first" and not wanting to fail, so he excelled. Kudos.

I have worked jointly with Army and Marines after 9-11. Always interesting when you work jointly, but it is always a great learning experience for the troops. I believe there were MA's that served as Flight Chiefs at Travis AFB in the late 90's when the Navy and AF shared all the Security/LE responsibilities. It's cool they are giving the guy credit but not really as big of a deal as they are making it out to be. Having started my career in the Army, I understand the differences between branches. In doing the job, we are actually more alike than different, but there are huge cultural differences that are hard to overcome. There should be many more joint functions, but due to fighting amongst the "stars," joint operations will always be limited. One the base perimeter the Marines had their section and the Air Force theirs. The Marine didn't have any K9 in their unit however and Air Force dogs worked even in their sections. 24/7 we also had USAF Security Police worked at the Command post for all three of their companies and also at their Battalion Hq. We also had some Marine MPs assigned to our Flight and living in the same huts We were. We did have a good relationship with 1st MP BN troops especially with all of us doing the same job.
