It says in AR 670-1 that you don't have to wear a cover in a POV including convertibles.

Drive my Jeep topless all the time without it. If I were required to wear one while driving it would be sure to blow off and I would be without when I got where I was going.

And here is the portion of the new AR 670-1 that says I don't have to

Para 3-7

"(1) Headgear is not required if it would interfere with the safe operation of military vehicles. Wearing military
headgear is not required while in or on a privately owned vehicle (to include a motorcycle, bicycle, or convertible
automobile), a commercial vehicle, or on public conveyance (such as a subway, train, plane, or bus)."

Would be foolish to wear hat while driving.... many will be lost due to wind. Now, I think that in the spirit of safety, a vehicle without a top is nothing more then a glorified motorcycle (a wannabe!). DOT rated helmets should be required.

Once I passed the age of 30, or maybe it was 21, driving convertibles became unauthorized.

I would think wearing a cover in a topless vehicle would be idiotic. Unless you want to stop ever 1/4 mile and retrieve your cover.

Well.. the way I see it I would have to have a convertible first, so the question is moot. If, however, household 6 would happen to authorize a convertible (which would happen at approximately the same time as Hades having an extremely long period of sub-zero temperatures), I would definitely NOT wear headgear! What would be the point, it's a CONVERTIBLE for crying out loud! You are supposed to feel the wind in your hair! AND now that I'm retired I actually HAVE HAIR! lol !

Is it a POV? Your discretion. Don't have to, don't-not-have to.

are you adding in the effects of wind resistance and what type Velcro would be needed at various different speeds???? Also does your clothing allowance cover replacing head gear on a daily basis if you have selected the cheap Walmart brand Velcro vs the industrial strength Ace hardware Store Velcro??? does gravity play a role in this????? Do I get my medal/award now????

And you are allowed to expose bald spots in a convertable, if you are so inclined.

no. unless an officer passes by. you are required to immediately go to "crusing speed:" put on head gear and render salute by turning your wiper blades on 6-10 car lengths away. once passed, you can continue hauling ass.

also, driving in excess of 100mph, you need to put on headgear backwards to prevent head chaffing. if head chaffing is suspected by leadership due to "convertibalism" an article 15 can be given for damage to government property. same as getting a sunburn.

finally, if you have hair, a pair of "top gun" sunglasses and score over a 270 on your APFT, headgear is absolutely restricted when driving a convertable in uniform. otherwise, the balaclava or pyle cap is required.
