Since having served as an "IA" during the period detailed in this article, I've had a lot of time to "reflect" on that experience, and how it altered my overall development as both an officer and a Sailor. From different regulations and procedures, to different "culture"...Sand Sailors got a dose of "green" to go with their "salt". I'm curious as to what the Chief's Mess thinks about the impact of this program on both enlisted and commissioned personnel upon returning to the Fleet.

We had a Navy Fighter Pilot as our EWO (Electronic Warfare Officer) 2006-2007 with 1-36 Infantry....I would not have traded anyone else for this man. After he worked on our counter IED systems, he put his ass on the line and went on patrol with us! Extremely competent and courageous Leader and we were lucky to have him with us!

Some of the "Pros" detailed back then were the extended experience and training afforded to Sailors translating to better "joint operations" personnel. However, interrupted career progression and lack of integration of Army evaluation and awards standards were cited as potential issues for our enlisted personnel.
