Having some issues over here at my new base, let’s begin.
I was prior service ANG, I was a traditional guardsman, I completed 6 good years in the guard, I have my NGB-22 reflecting 6 good years. I separated and got picked up to fly for active duty. I am now currently getting paid O-1 with less then 2 years of service.
Now, I am fully aware I do not qualify for O-1E because I did not complete 4 years AD or have enough points but, I should currently be paid at least O1 with 6 years of service. My MPF Office here said “only active duty time counts and my reserve time doesn’t count as TIS” even though I have a couple of buddies who are currently getting paid O1 with x/ amount of years who were prior guard and reserve. I have shown them my NGB22 and they keep referring to my DD214 (which only shows 1 year from BMT and tech school)
I have yet to find a reg that shows TIS is “time with points only”
Any help would be awesome, thank you!

Just went to MPF, they are crediting me the 6 years of service so I will be getting O-1 with 6 years in

If you are a 2LT with 6 years you should be given O-1E pay. Did they say you could retire in 14 years?

When I went from Reserves to AD, Finance looked at my DD214 and counted all the AD time. For arguments sake they credited me for a 6 month deployment, 6 months for basic and AIT. The moment I went AD, they gave me 1 year of AD credit to determine the BASD. My TIS was one year.

Sure thing! I have some guys here who were prior traditional guard and reserve (1 weeeknd a month) who are now on active duty who are getting paid O-1 with how ever many years of service they did in the guard or reserves. Hopes this helps out

2d Lt (Join to see) - X years in Reserves or NG does not mean X years for pay or retirement from active duty. They will be sadly mistaken that X years will count for retirement.

I would not consider a group of 2LTs as a deep reservoir of institutional knowledge.

LT, 6 years in the Gaurd or Reserves does not equate to six years of active service. Their is a formula out there that portrays how each drill, weekends and deployments equate. I have never served in either, but I have many friends who have. As. LT I encourage you to take a deep dive into the regulations so that you will be comfortable with the answer. It will also prepare you to advise Sokdiers that you will lead in the future. Thank you for your service.

Sir, I have read and reviewed the regs and found nothing on “time in service is different for AD, reserve, or guard”. I only found regs that say “TIS is TIS no matter what component”. For retirement and points, yes guard and reserve do not equate to AD time but for longevity TIS, it’s the time you raise your right hand and actively serve.
That is what I have been told by others who are in my same shoes! But thank you for the comment sir, I will keep pressing on

This is calculated by DFAS. I was Regular Army, National Guard, and Active Guard before I came back to the Regular Army. They do two different calculations for this. The first one is for pay. They simply count the years of service for this between the start and end of contracts of service. They use for pay. Then for retirement they calculate your retirement points by days of service. My ORB looks sporadic with all the different dates. I have 17 and change for pay and over 11 for retirement. When I came back this time they used my date I swore in and subtracted all of my previous service to give me a new BASD.
