I am a 34 year old prior-service U.S Army National Guard soldier with a 5 year break in service. I recently attempted to re-enlist U.S Army AD and was informed that I will not be attending any type of BCT or AIT, which I was actually looking forward to. My recruiter told me he has put together a packet for me but will submit it until I meet H&W standards because I will be shipping off within 30 days of submitting my paperwork. Any feedback? I am in NYC. National Guard and Reserve members earn 15 Points for each year they participate in the Guard or Reserves. This includes service in the Regular Reserves, or in the Inactive Ready Reserve (IRR). The IRR is the Reserve organization many servicemembers are required to join when they leave active duty. Almost all initial military contracts are 8-year contracts. The military simply keeps your information on file in the event they need to do a recall or mobilization. So for all practical purposes it will not be considered as a break in service until your IRR obligation has ended. It was very easy, i am currently IRR so i was able to keep my MOS and my H8 identifier. All they did was verify all my info was correct and called ft knox (my IRR unit) and asked what places were available for assignments and I got to pick between a couple. Its as easy as that I also got to keep my rank and have my ship date. Looking forward to being back active duty and I hope this helps easy other peoples minds that will be doing something similar to me. The process is much easier than the prior service business rules make it seem. It took some time for everything to fall in place but absolutely worth it.

Good luck. Hope it all works out in your favor.
