Topless equality for Males and Females; Do you think this should actually be considered?

Thousands of people paraded shirt-free around the world Sunday to push for laws that would allow women to go topless in public; allowing women to go topless where ever men are allowed. What issues do you foresee if this is approved, And are you for or against it? Oh, and please be civil with your replies as I'm really curious as to what you think about this, thank you!

As far as I'm concerned, I would be against it due to the immature goobers who may see this as an opportunity to "take it a step further". I do understand why the challenge for equality, I just don't think this is one that should be pursued, as doing so will only appeal more to the predators... Also of note, there are some guys and gals out there that really just don't look... "aesthetically pleasing (?)" going topless...

This shouldn't be considered at all. Going around topless as a male or female isn't a right. Someone is likely to cause a traffic accident if people go running around topless. Let's consider this a safety issue.

If I can wring my shirt out in my lawn, my wife should have the same option. It's that simple.

Mammary glands are only sexual because we make them so. And honestly, they're sexual whether they're covered by a sweater in the winter, or nothing in the summer. I don't need someone else telling me what I can and cannot look at.

Anyone who has ever been to a topless beach for more than 15 minutes, quickly learns, they're just tits, and there are twice as many of them as there are women. They're not that big a deal once you get over seeing them for a few minutes. It's the fact that we don't get to see them whenever we want that makes this a big deal.

"But Aaron, if she's jogging, men will look and there will be an accident!"

"But Mohammed, if she's walking, and we can see her ankle... someone will get excited... and it will be chaos! Chaos!"

That's how silly that argument sounds to me. Yes, I'm taking the argument to the absolute absurd level, because it's an absurd argument. We live in an era of high speed internet. If someone wants to see breasts, they have access to all shapes and sizes at a click of a button. We can see them jiggle and bounce. It's not that big of a deal.

Unless there is an actual hygienic reason to keep them locked up like some sort of criminal, apply the rules equally across both sexes.

First of all we must be realistic, most of the women that would go topless are not pin up material so you are going to have to look at a lot of glands that may not be very appealing.

You can make the same argument about complete nudity too. I know breasts are not a sexual organ but when it comes to human (especially western) mindset the curves of women are very appealing sexually to men. That is just the way it is.

A topless beach, okay, a nudist beach/colony, okay. Public nudity/topless, no thanks. I have enough bad dreams.

If it is such a great idea how many would want their mother, wife and/or daughter etc walking around topless for others to ogle? My guess is very few. When the notion is about "other" women being topless then it seems more appealing to some.

I'm supportive of this actually. No, I don't think people in general should just walk around topless, so you could say I'm more supportive of mandating everyone wear shirts everywhere, otherwise keep it equal. The fact the breasts are sexualized is actually considered a fetish, since it's not a primary sexual organ. If what I've read before is correct, they're considered a secondary, along with facial hair, and I was never required to cover my beard. No, I don't think they should be on the same level, but they are so that's how I see that. The big thing here is, we want to hide women's bodies because we can't teach our young to respect them and not see them as sexual objects. Give them equal rights, persecute those who can't keep their hands to themselves, and don't take away from someone just because they aren't as aesthetically pleasing.

I really can't understand why we as Americans waste time with nonsense like this there are much bigger things going on in our country that need to be addressed.

Make it legal the "titty party" will run around for a few days to try and make some point....realize that no one cares and then move on.

Maybe if as a nation we were not so uptight these non-issue issues would not take up all of the time of our elected representatives and they could move on to more important things....like maybe making a budget, addressing crime rates, tax laws, etc.

If a woman wants to breast feed in public let her (babies need to eat) but she should be tasteful about it......if she want to go topless...let her...who cares....I grew up in Europe and after the initial "culture shock" wears off you don't event notice it. Same with going topless....once the initial shock passes no one cares...or hell even really notices.

Besides studies have shown that looking at woman's breast actually lower men's blood pressure and agitation levels.....so Win-Win......right

Amazingly enough you don't see women running around St Mark's Square or the Louvre or Vatican Square, or in movie theaters, shopping malls, gas stations, etc all over Europe ....why.....well it's simple most women don't want to go topless unless it's in an appropriate environment...you know like Church.....just seeing if you are still paying attention....but seriously in countries where this is legal it's not like there are herds of topless woman rampaging around. They pretty much only do it at the beaches, parks, or other places where it would be appropriate.

The only reason we the militant 'titty party" does crap like this is to get their 15 min of fame........ and besides isn't it time New York City got a Singing Cowgirl also?

Can we please just get this done and move onto to something that matters?

MSgt Curtis Ellis - As long as boys will be boys and girls will be girls (which, I understand, is getting more and more "blended" in today's society) and female breasts are looked upon in a sexual context, I don't think society would accept topless females in the same way as topless males.

I agree with some of the others who have commented about it being "normal" in other countries. Having lived overseas for 31 years of my life, most of that in Europe, I can attest to the fact that topless women are considered in a much different vein than they would be in the USA. However, that is a result of generations of assimilation and upbringing. It would take time for the US to feel the same way. In the interim, topless women in public would simply be a free peep-show for the males.

It is an interesting idea. We as Americans are one of very few cultures that associate breasts with genitalia and in doing so sexualize something that is not a sex organ. Case in point, I saw a meme on FB today that had a fat man with quite large man-boobs in one shot and a skinny girl with less than an A-cup in another and said "life's not fair". Since this man has boobs that resemble a well endowed woman should he be forced to wear a bra? Or since she doesn't meet the other end of the social norm would it be ok for her to go topless? I don't think America is ready for topless females in public because of how we are as a society, but something does need to wake us up. We are almost as bad as when British society decided that ankles on women (and even furniture) were too much and needed to be covered lest someone fantasize about them.

The "sexualixation" of female breasts will not make this practical/ possible.
Examples:
Women breastfeeding in public are often asked to move.
Breast cancer raises the highest amount of funding among all cancers, and is even commercialized every October with pink wares, football teams wearing pink gear, etc. Can anyone who doesn't have cancer themselves (or an immediate family member) tell me what another support color is for a different type of cancer? It covers the color spectrum and represents all types of cancer, even ones far more deadly; yet all most people know about is pink, because breasts are worshipped.
Moral decency should also be included in this decision. Top less & nude beaches are fine for those who wish to attend, but that doesn't mean that we should all be walking around naked every day.

I see no problem with topless equality where appropriate. A breast is a breast and a body is a body and it time for American puritanical restrictions to fade out. I believe more equality and less "sensationalism" surrounding the body would improve dismal behavior to date by immature men toward women.
That said, it must be where appropriate and far to many men doff when they should don their shirts.

As for bra's, don't ever burn them! Damn things cost a fortune! Donate them or squirrel them away for when you need them. ;)

I call it freedom and liberty, what's good for the goose is good for the gander. My wife and I have had this discussion before. Her opinion is that she should be able to go around topless like men do. All of this restricting behavior because someone is offended or may be aroused is udder nonsense (forgive the pun). The people who have a problem with this, young men's pants exposing underwear, or "truck nuts," need to stop trying to restrict everyone's ability to express themselves. As we've seen recently, what comes around goes around. Now, this is a two way street. If women want to be equal with men in all categories, I'm all for it. Time to register for selective service or suffer like men do. No student loans, no federal jobs, etc.

Reading through all the comments from my perspective most of you are correct equality is equality, pervs will be pervs, and immature dudes will be just that immature.

As i am not a religious man, I can state that this is where most of your not so equality will come from:

Genesis 2:25 Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame. after partaking in the forbidden fruit Genesis 3:7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

Religion will always play a factor in in-equality from the easiest going to the most strict of religious groups and their interpretation of the scriptures.

As i am not trying to strike a nerve with anyone, this is just a perspective that i had not seen demonstrated so far in this discussion.

Where did we did we get this idea that knights were some how respectful of women? It doesn't seem that way historically. Chivalry had a great deal to do with fighting wars than it did with how to treat people. A courteous person is one who has respect for themselves which carries over to manners and politeness. These things are often what we observe as missing in contemporary culture. Likely because techknowledgy has made direct interaction awkward. I don't think the individuals pushing for this are thinking about the second and third order effects that this will cause. The group of people fighting for this equality is the same group that in the 90s was enforcing that a woman's chest is sexual in nature and therefore afforded special protection. Think about it. Staring at a women's chest could no longer be considered "pervy" or sexual harassment. Hanging up pictures of bare chested women would no longer be considered a hostile work environment. Commenting on a woman's chest would be the equivalent of discussing a man's. Touching a woman's breast would no longer be considered sexual assault.

Not sure how many of you have had the opportunity to live in Europe (Germany)? There are the sauna's and spa's there where everyone goes (Co-ed) and when you want to go inside one of the sauna rooms, you take off your robe and are completely naked, you also take off your flip-flops. You take your towel inside unless it is a steam room and you sit on it with also enough for your feet too. This is a norm in most European countries, I loved going to these places (not for the view because some of them were not very pleasing) but for the pure pleasure of enjoying the relaxing atmosphere. My wife is German, she says to me that if this sort of thing was more of a normal thing in the states where people are afraid to show anything and anything sexual is considered taboo besides in Europe it is accepted, we would probably have less predator's and sex crimes in my and her opinion. Now to be outside everyone and topless or naked, even in very liberal countries like Germany they do not allow it, I think it would just create chaos and car wrecks.

I think its funny how we are devolving. Having traveled to many places where they go topless at the beach I don't see this as a problem. Nipples on men are a remnant from our early development in utero. For the first several weeks a developing embryo follows a "female blueprint," from reproductive organs to nipples. Only after about 60 days does the hormone testosterone kick in (for those of us with a Y chromosome), changing the genetic activity of cells in the genitals and brain. But by then the mammary papillae aren't going anywhere.

What "equality" advocates fail to consider is that men and women are "wired" differently. Women should be treated and rewarded equally, there is no argument there. The majority of men, whether by design or evolution, are far more visually stimulated than women. Do women have the right to go topless, sure. Are they prepared for the consequences, no. You also have women that complain that men treat them as sexual objects and they are not taken seriously. I don't think they would be running out to go topless anytime soon. When you get to be my age, you want to cover it up. my wife feels the same way. I do believe some modesty is needed, though I get the idea of equality. There was one time I was in a car with my husband and our friend's teenage son. The teen was driving, and we were in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I saw some people walking around and said, "Hey, look at all the topless people!" At that, my husband and the young man whipped their heads around asking, "Where!?" I said, "There" pointing out the window at some guys walking around with no shirts on. No, I prefer to stay covered up. It's more fun that way.

Humans are animals too. We are the only animals that use something manufactured to cover ourselves. If the laws were to change, for a woman to walk around topless would be considered taboo by our generation and the next few generations to follow. But just like anything else, as time goes by, it would become more acceptable and less taboo. The sexual nature of a woman's breasts are because we make them sexual. Personally, I wouldn't mind it changing. Yes, I may become aroused around some topless women, others not so much. How do you think women feel around topless men? I can assure you, that some men, especially those who take excellent care of themselves and spend a respectable amount of time in guy, are found to be very arousing to some women (and even some other men). Women however have a greater ability to be discrete when they are aroused, and therefore, we don't know how taboo even men walking around topless can really be.

Punishment and Public/Social acceptance are two separate sides of the same coin. The government should not punish women for being topless. Laws should be applied equally....

I guess this is where my actions and ideas don't match. I feel a woman should be able to go top less but I'd kick my daughter's behind if she tried it at home. Mine are the only boobs to be seen around the house. I was not ready for her to become a teenager.
