My primary reason is due to a family hardship relating to my disabled mother who's gone through 4 surgeries and unable to take care of herself properly at this time. Her lifestyle is unstable, and she certainly needs help. Has been this way since her and my father's divorce some 8-9 months ago. I digress, is it possible for me to do this, and what exactly do I need to do. Really hoping I can get this to work. This is the worst I've ever seen my mother get. If anyone has advice on the process please give me your input.Transferring from active duty to Reserve or guard component?2019-06-09T01:51:10-04:004707760

I am currently active duty needing to transfer to National Guard or Reserve. If you were ARNG or Reserve, you could get an AD recruiter to enlist you AD via a DD368, but as far as I know you can't go the other way.

If your parent has become unable to care for herself, my recommendations are:
- short term: request a compassionate reassignment.
- mid-term, request to make your parent a dependent in DEERS. She can live with you and receive benefits under your care.https://www.dfas.mil/militarymembers/SecondaryDependency/SDC.html

If you pursue the the second one, that will put you both in the best position as you will have stable pay and benefits including housing to help out.

SFC Private RallyPoint Member and SFC Private RallyPoint Member any insight for this soldier.

You can't just transfer out of an active component. That's not really how that works.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 10 at 2019 9:19 AM2019-06-10T09:19:16-04:002019-06-10T09:19:16-04:00LTC Charles T Dalbec5335374

Keep in mind that the Army Reserve has more senior positions then the NG has which affords you greater opportunity fir potential advancement.Response by LTC Charles T Dalbec made Dec 12 at 2019 8:08 AM2019-12-12T08:08:13-05:002019-12-12T08:08:13-05:002019-06-09T01:51:10-04:00
