Transferring from active duty to Reserve or guard component? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/transferring-from-active-duty-to-reserve-or-guard-component <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I am currently active duty needing to transfer to National Guard or Reserve. My primary reason is due to a family hardship relating to my disabled mother who&#39;s gone through 4 surgeries and unable to take care of herself properly at this time. Her lifestyle is unstable, and she certainly needs help. Has been this way since her and my father&#39;s divorce some 8-9 months ago. I digress, is it possible for me to do this, and what exactly do I need to do. Really hoping I can get this to work. This is the worst I&#39;ve ever seen my mother get. If anyone has advice on the process please give me your input. If you were ARNG or Reserve, you could get an AD recruiter to enlist you AD via a DD368, but as far as I know you can&#39;t go the other way.<br /><br />If your parent has become unable to care for herself, my recommendations are:<br />- short term: request a compassionate reassignment.<br />- mid-term, request to make your parent a dependent in DEERS. She can live with you and receive benefits under your care.<a target="_blank" href="https://www.dfas.mil/militarymembers/SecondaryDependency/SDC.html">https://www.dfas.mil/militarymembers/SecondaryDependency/SDC.html</a><br /><br />If you pursue the the second one, that will put you both in the best position as you will have stable pay and benefits including housing to help out.<br /><br /><a class="dark-link bold-link" role="profile-hover" data-qtip-container="body" data-id="13334" data-source-page-controller="question_response_contents" href="/profiles/13334-42a-human-resources-specialist">SFC Private RallyPoint Member</a> and <a class="dark-link bold-link" role="profile-hover" data-qtip-container="body" data-id="148812" data-source-page-controller="question_response_contents" href="/profiles/148812-79s-career-counselor-usaraf-hq-usaraf-setaf">SFC Private RallyPoint Member</a> any insight for this soldier. <div class="pta-link-card answers-template-image type-default"> <div class="pta-link-card-picture"> </div> <div class="pta-link-card-content"> <p class="pta-link-card-title"> <a target="blank" href="https://www.dfas.mil/militarymembers/SecondaryDependency/SDC.html">SDC.html</a> </p> <p class="pta-link-card-description"></p> </div> <div class="clearfix"></div> </div> LTC Jason Mackay Sun, 09 Jun 2019 12:39:45 -0400 2019-06-09T12:39:45-04:00 Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 10 at 2019 9:19 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/transferring-from-active-duty-to-reserve-or-guard-component?n=4710795&urlhash=4710795 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>You&#39;re more than likely going to have to request a compassionate reassignment until your contract is up, then re-enlist in a part-time component. You can&#39;t just transfer out of an active component. That&#39;s not really how that works.
