I've been retired for 6 years now, but as a Chief Petty Officer, we required our separating Sailors to attend TAP at least a year out from their EAOS. The only time they didn't, was if we were shipboard and deployed.

If they are within a year of separation, and haven't decided to leave or stay, we'd still make them go, just to make sure they received the tools and resources to transition. If they reenlisted; no harm, no foul and they got to miss a week of work.Response by CPO David R.
