A person of character SFC Russell Shaw is a person who lives by appropriate values, not just talks about them. If you have character (which simply means doing what is right whether or not anyone is watching) your on duty and off duty persona need to be congruent; you can't have two different personas... This is about walking the walk, 24/7, not just talking the talk, as is often in the Army.

SFC Russell Shaw Character is different in all people based on their life expirence. I will tell future leaders that communication is key to success. It is imperative that a leader has the trust in their people to let them provide different perspectives to accomplish the job. Relying on one's strengths and weaknesses will help with the development as well.

A person of character is someone with the steel to stand alone against the wave or opinion and break it upon the rock of their determination and certainty in what right looks like.
This requires confidence, knowledge, and courage.
And I would follow such a leader anywhere.

I found this quote on Character it seemed appropriate to add it to your discussion.
General Schwarzkopf was a big fan of solid ground and how important our character is. He said "Leadership is a potent combination of strategy and character. But if you must be without one, be without strategy."
