USAR Civil Affairs Officer

I am up for promotion in Oct of this year and looking to change branches.  I was looking into the functional area of Civil Affairs but I do not know much about the route.  Can anyone with a POC or any reserve CPTs who have taken such route help me with this?

1LT Willis,

One of my CA Battalions, the 422nd, is located in Greensboro, NC. If you are still looking, send me an email and I will get you an interview with the Commander. They are very interested in bright, young officers!

BG (Join to see) - Sir, I am slotted to be making 1LT this fall, and I am hoping to transfer into the CA BN that is in my area (Southern Florida). Is it possible to transfer into units in supporting roles until I am able to become a CA officer? I am a Ordnance officer at the present time. May I email you about the specifics of my questions?

CPT (Join to see) - Yes, that is how it is normally done. Typically the commander will put you in one of the staff section (S-1,2,4 or 6) so you are DMOSQ on the books while you train to become a fully qualified CA officer. If you do not have a branch that suits one of those, he or she may go ahead and slot you in a CA Team Leader slot anyway. Check out the 479th in Miami or the 436th in Orlando. Send me an email if you have further questions. [login to see] .

BG (Join to see) sir, do you know if there is a possibility that YG13 officers such as myself will be able to transfer into CA?

CPT (Join to see) - Alex, every year there is a cohort selected to transfer to CA. The issue for you is that there is now only one AC CA Brigade, not two. Therefore the number put through CA Selection is going to be roughly half. Don't let that stop you, apply and see if you can make it through the fairly rigorous process.

Please refer to the SORB recruiting page. If that does not answer your questions please feel free to contact me at your earliest convenience. I will put you in touch with a good POC.
