USAREC Stigma??

In today's world of growing technology when information is always at the tips of our fingers what can be done to improve the stigma that Recruiting Command has both in the Army itself and in the public's eyes?

I think education key. I have to admit that it's easy to make fun of Recruiting Command.

Transparency is also a key. Having technology that shares the TRUTH I think would help.

Most civilians are not educated about the military. They see us as a war driven machine, when we are not. Furthermore there' a portion of the population that see us as the World's bully, so I don't think we can do that much, besides educating the people within our sphere so the perception can change.

Dude you’re fighting a loosing battle. First everyone thinks their recruiter is a liar or will lie to get you in! Secondly USAREC is known for eating its own. But you have those recruiters that want to do something stupid and everybody else has to suffer for their mistakes

Well first off all those memos getting posted to USAWTF don't help in getting people to go recruiting. It seems like morale in USAREC sucks. That is where they need to start.

Old topic, but still extremely relevant; and one I'm very interested in as I'm headed to USAREC for my second command.

In my mind, recruiters should exemplify the service. For most people, the recruiter is the only member of the armed service they have ever met, and as such forms their entire perception about that branch of service. Your professionalism and command presence has to be on point, and your integrity has to be beyond reproach. At the same time, you have to be personable and approachable.

The mission is everything in USAREC, but leadership needs to pay close attention to command climate. How effective is a recruiter that hates his job? Work-life balance needs to be maintained.

My pathetic experience was dealing with a recruiting office full of liars. They really did not care about the best career for me.

Every school should be required to conduct the student ASVAB on juniors and seniors every year. Make it mandatory or better yet blend the ASVAB into a different test that’s mandatory for passing that grade. After the test a military representative briefs the students on career fields, benefits, and dispels common rumors. It would only work if these things are mandatory. Changing the ASVAB into something like the SAT or something could ensue students don’t just guess on the whole test.
