VA overpayment of monthly compensation

So I was drastically overpaid by the VA this month for my compensation. Over 2 1/2 times what I normally get. Has anyone else been overpaid? I looked on the website and found no information on an increase.

[login to see] . Call the VA hotline, ask the question. Hopefully they can square it away.

Does the web show which benefit is being overpaid? Education, pension, disability? Does it show an increase in your %?

There's been no increase. Better bank it and call them. They WILL come looking for it if it's a mistake, at some point.

Presumable you mean the eBenefits web portal? You could look to see if there was a change in your service connection, if that is what was overpaid. Maybe there was a review of a particular condition and you got retro pay.

By the way, I would follow MSG(P) Joseph Yorski suggestion and bank the difference until you resolve it.

I served with a LT in Viet Nam that was paid as a LT Col by mistake. After trying for three pay cycles to get it corrected he just put the excess into the 10% interest savings account and paid the excess back when he got to his next duty station. He got to keep the 10% interest.

Put the money to the side and contact the VA immediately to see what is going on. If it is indeed an over payment, they will collect it.

Nothing more scary than getting unexpected funds from the VA. It's more scary than getting shorted by them. Get with your VA people (Regional office). Most of what you can find with their accounting involves codes and is impossible to decipher without the regional folks.

The website wasn't helpful at all. The toll free number hung up on me without offering a call back. I will try going to my VA too see if someone can help.

So far all strike outs. The website was useless, and calling was just an aggravation. Just kept hanging up on me and wouldn't give me an option for a call back. Today I walk into the VA and look for a human. If this doesn't work, I'm throwing a birthday party for the Marines at the VA on Nov 10th with the money.

Did you file a new claim? or dispute an old one? if so they may ave changed your ratings. They should have sent you paperwork, which is hard to read.

Well I got resolution on this. I received a letter today from the DVA. It was a retroactive CRDP compensation payment from the day I retired. Im am glad it wasn't someone else's pay I received.
This may effect some of you in a positive way. I'm sure you can look up " CRDP compensation" and get more info on it.

I am currently going thru the same thing. I also know of another veteran experiencing this problem too.
