Following department protocol, Raleigh police have asked the State Bureau of Investigation to conduct an investigation of King’s death.

A woman who lived with King called 911 and told the operator, “He’s out here. He’s going terrible. He’s going crazy. I don’t know what he did. He keeps slamming the door. He’s hollering,”

She said he had left their house and was at a neighbor’s house.

“I don’t know if he broke into these people’s house or what he did, ma’am,” the caller said. “I’m scared. I’m really scared.”
“Please send somebody, ‘cause I don’t know what he’s gonna do,” the woman said. Seconds later, the woman began to screaming, “Get out of here! Oh Lord! Please don’t do me!”

She yelled, “Oh God. Stop. Please don’t do that. Calm down,” then screamed. The call ends with the woman repeating, “Please calm down” to someone. The person she was talking to is not heard.

King, a native of Goldsboro and a U.S. Army veteran, has gone through tumultuous periods since he was honorably discharged in 2011, according to state criminal records.

King was scheduled to appear in Wake County District Court next week for charges of assault on a female involving a woman he has been living with on Slippery Elm Drive, in the Farmington Woods subdivision off Creech Road.

He was found guilty of that same charge in 2012 and sentenced to six months in prison. He was also convicted of the offense in 2011 and sentenced to 12 months probation and ordered not harass, assault or threaten the woman, court records show.

The judge also ordered King to enroll in an abuser treatment program, court records show.

Police have responded to nearly 20 calls to the home where King lived in the past two years. In March 2013, someone at the home reportedly attempted suicide and required mental commitment for treatment, police department records show.

http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/counties/wake-county/article35173419.html#storylink=cpy

Man dies in Raleigh police custody after frightened 911 caller reports ‘crazy’ man

A man died Monday morning shortly after he was arrested by police who answered a 911 call about a man “going crazy” in a residential neighborhood near Southeast Raleigh High School.

Fri, 18 Sep 2015 15:58:44 -0400 "Vet dies in Raleigh police custody after frightened 911 caller reports ‘crazy’ man" https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/vet-dies-in-raleigh-police-custody-after-frightened-911-caller-reports-crazy-man

From: News Observer

A man died Monday morning shortly after he was arrested by police who answered a 911 call about a man “going crazy” in a residential neighborhood near Southeast Raleigh High School.

Police say Carl Devince King, 52, lived at 3032 Slippery Elm Dr. where officers responded to a report of a disturbance at 5:28 a.m. Police have not provided details about how King died but say they expect to release more information on Tuesday “after interviews have been completed.”

Neighbors and family also declined comment Monday afternoon when asked what happened.
