PHOENIX (KPHO/KTVK) -
A U.S. Army veteran dying of cancer has just filed a $50 million lawsuit, alleging medical negligence.

It is the latest in a string of lawsuits targeting the Phoenix Veterans' Affairs Medical Center.

Rima Follman is making the most of the time she has left with her boyfriend, U.S. Army veteran Steven Cooper.

"I love him more than anything in this world," said Follman. "One day you're OK, and the next, somebody says to you, you have stage 4 prostate cancer, and you have 6-12 months to live, and there's really nothing you can do about it. Hospice will call you Monday.

Damn shame, this is however a wake-up call for the rest of us Veterans to remain proactive in our care. Ask questions constantly, seek second opinions; etc. Hope it works out for this Veteran....

2LT R. Asatov, That's what I was thinking too Sir. I wouldn't know where to begin, even with an attorney. I think you would need to have some mega bucks to do that, and accept the fact you probably won't win.

2LT R. Asatov, Age doesn't have anything to do with showing respect. I t spect your rank. I do not have any problem with my VA. They have treated me like a (senior citizen) lol, they have treated me with respect and professionalism. It's the other VA's that I'm concerned about.i hear more about bad ones than I do good ones, and that's not right, Sir. (-:

SGT Bodine, Sir, For the love of Pete, I wish him the very best.. it has been tried before, as you know, hope this one works for the benefit of the family and as a benefit to all our Veterans, been where he was at, I could only choose civilian doctor as VA would not Even consider me at the time.... I was fortunate with the move I made..

Vets get paid frequently over VA's failures. I don't think he'll make $50 mil, but will get some. The highest I am aware at one facility is close to $1 mil and that is only what I know of, can't imagine what other vets are getting. Of course it's not an award one wants to get, because the price to get there is too great.

Sgt Spencer Sikder, I wouldn't want the money for what he has gone through, but if he gets a million, his girl friend will be set for life. They ought to get married so there are no glitches. That's the positive part of it.

SGT (Join to see) - One would hope that the payoff will set them off for life, but unfortunately, poor judgement seems to come into play when large sums are involved.

Like I wrote earlier, He should forget about the suit and come to Houston to be treated by MD Anderson cancer center. It's one of the best in the world. They can make miracles happen.
