Can veterans get their veteran status and branch of service placed on their license all states?

Hi again I am just curious I am a CDL truck driver and in Texas you can get your branch of service and veteran on your license does that happen in all states now

Tennessee will put the "Veteran" status on the drivers license but not the branch of the military you served. To get the "Veteran" it put on you have to produce you DD214. The V.A. Medical card isn't enough alone. We do have a license plate with your branch.

SPC Kenneth James While we are on the subject of licenses...I was told once upon a time that in Virginia active duty and Veterans get free license plates for their cars. Just curious, is this true?

Mississippi has Veterans license plates for all branches of service.

You will have to check with your DMV. Here in Idaho, upon request show show of proof...Veterans can get special plates that state "Veteran" and have their branch insignia put on their license plates.

CA does it as well, but the hurdles to do so are rather high. We'd have to go to the VA to have the DMV form validated, and then go back to the DMV to execute the action. Walking in the DMV with my military ID is insufficient.

So............. screw it.

In Washington State you can have Veteran put on your license but not which branch. But you can get veteran and branch license plates.

The answer is no... state dependant.
But all states have some form of Veterans plate, just not all with Veteran + branch

In Massachusetts You can get Veteran shown on Your drivers license which I do. We have to use Your DD Form 214 to verify that status before it can be added and I did so it's on My license. On License plates for Vehicle once again a DD Form 214 is needed for issue and I did get Veteran plates for My Chevrolet, Silverado truck. The branch of service is indicated on the plate and also tab to apply under the branch of service seal for any wartime service , ie: in my case Vietnam. Massachusetts also has other plate available for Disabled Veterans, people that had thing such and Bronze ,or silver stars, Purple Heart and even the Medal of Honor. Of course supporting documents proving that award are required.

No. Oklahoma puts a flag in the top left corner with "Veteran" underneath it, but that's it.

However, you can get a license plate with your branch of service, and some communities (such as the Seabees and the 181st Airborne) merit a special plate as well.

For Driver's Licenses I believe most States offer to put Veteran on the card but not necessarily the branch of service. For example my local DMV allowed me to do it just by showing a DD-214 or CAC at no extra cost when I got my new DL.

Regarding License Plates I am unsure about all of the options available but I believe all States have at the minimum a Veteran Plate option. Some States allow for things like a specific War/Campaign (i.e. WWII or Enduring Freedom), some allow for certain medals such as the Purple Heart or Bronze Star to be displayed on a plate, some differentiate between Female Veteran or National Guard service for example. Some States do this for free and some make you pay a fee.

I would recommend contacting or viewing the website of your local DMV/MVD or whatever vehicle department your State uses for the issuing of licenses and plates.

You can "Veteran" in MA but not branch. You can get a branch on your POV plates though if you choose to with your Veteran plate. I can't speak to other states.
