Remember. Burial and death benefit applications without your DD214 will not be processed! I speak with too many survivors who have no idea where or how to get a copy. The DD 214 is the basic document used to apply for any and all VA benefits. Download SF 180 or go to archives.gov to request a copy.

Great Information SSG Dwight Amey! I have a couple of certified copies of my DD214 & DD215...the DD215 corrects anything wrong on the DD214

One of the best pieces of advice I received from my Personnel Office when I retired was to take my DD 214 to the courthouse wherever I retired and have them keep a certified copy. It's there and readily available when needed.

I have copies of my DD214 in a fire-proof box at home. Family knows where it is. Also had the County make a certified copy and put it on file in the County Court House with the County Clerk.

I have a digital copy saved to my cloud service, as well as numerous copies in a fire safe at home.
