I checked with my local VFW, and I'm told it's free for active duty. Not sure if this is just local, but wanted to alert any others interested and who might want to avoid those $400 life time fees.

That's a pretty descent deal.

Upon obtaining my vet status back in 1993, we were given our first year of VFW membership free, then at the time it was $20.00 a year after that. I ended up paying $250.00 for the lifetime membership. Now they offer different lifetime membership levels I believe.

Thanks Sir, the VFW back at home wanted $275 at the time. I never did join and was just curious to see who was in the building that day. We talked for an hour and met some great guys from all branches.
