VBA-
The Office of Transition and Economic Developments (TED) mission is to ease the Veteran’s transition experience. Mental Health and Suicide Prevention-
VA's public health strategy to suicide prevention combines partnerships with communities to implement tailored, local prevention plans, while also focusing on evidence based clinical strategies for intervention. Our approach focuses on what we can do now, in the short term, as well as what we can do in the long term, to implement VA’s National Strategy for Preventing Veteran Suicide. Many Veterans may not engage with VHA, so it is necessary to collaborate with federal, state, and local agencies to provide Veterans with resources, evidenced-based therapies, and the tools they need to reach them where they live, work, and thrive. Together, we all make a difference.

Appeals-

The Board of Veterans’ Appeals (Board) is an agency within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Its mission is to conduct hearings and issue timely decisions for Veterans and other appellants in compliance with the law, 38 United States Code (U.S.C.) § 7101(a). The Board is responsible for making final decisions on behalf of the Secretary regarding appeals for Veterans’ benefits and services from all three administrations - Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), and National Cemetery Administration (NCA)—as well as the Office of General Counsel (OGC)that are presented to the Board for appellate review. The Board’s jurisdiction extends to all questions in a matter involving a decision by the Secretary under the law that affects a provision of benefits by the Secretary to Veterans, their dependents, or their survivors. 38 U.S.C. §§ 511(a); 7104(a). Final decisions on appeals are made by the Board based on the entire record in the proceeding and all applicable provisions of law and regulation. 38 U.S.C. § 7104(a).

Compensation Service-
Oversees the delivery of disability compensation, a tax-free monetary benefit paid to Veterans with disabilities that are the result of a disease or injury incurred or aggravated during active military service.

Veteran Readiness and Employment-
Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) (Formerly known as Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment) services to help with job training, employment accommodations, resume development, and job seeking skills coaching. Other services may be provided to assist Veterans and Servicemembers in starting their own businesses or independent living services for those who are severely disabled and unable to work in traditional employment.

VA's Education and Career Counseling program is a great opportunity for Veterans and Servicemembers to get personalized counseling and support to help guide their career paths, ensure the most effective use of their VA benefits, and achieve their goals.

Vet Centers-

Vet Centers are community-based counseling centers that provide social and psychological services, including professional readjustment counseling (individual, group, marriage and family counseling) to eligible Veterans, active duty Service members, members of the National Guard and Reserve components, and their families. Vet Centers are located in easily accessible neighborhoods and are separate from VA Medical Centers and other VA locations to ensure confidential counseling and reduce barriers to care. Veteran Directed Care (VDC)-

The Veteran Directed Care program provides Veterans greater choice and control over their long term services and supports. The Veteran Directed Care (VDC) program offers Veterans and their caregivers greater access, choice and control over the long-term services and supports (LTSS) that help Veterans live at home and remain a part of their community. Veterans enrolled in VDC decide for themselves what mix of goods and services best meet their needs. This includes the ability to hire, schedule and supervise their workers. The VDC program is currently offered at 62 VA Medical Centers across the country. All Veterans, regardless of age, who are enrolled in the VA health care system and meet the clinical need for the service, are eligible to participate in VDC if it is offered at a local VA Medical Center.

The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) provides compassionate care and survivor support services for the families of America’s fallen military heroes. I sure wish I had transition assistance when I was pushed out of the Army for parenthood (Chapter 5) in 1989 after almost 13 years of service. It took 8 years for me to realize, through word of mouth, that I could file a claim with the VA. I am sure I have many questions. I will whittle that down to one or two and hopefully get them answered.

What is the procedure to submit questions? I am having trouble getting through all of the information above.

I'm in desperate need of a 5 bedroom home with at least 2 baths. I have my VA loan but I'm not qualified to use it, I need it to help get my 11 year old Grandson closer to one of the few Acute Pediatric Heart Drs. I do not think the VA cares about it's veterans and is only finding ways not to pay them. There should be one place where veterans can go to get help and all questions answered. I remember when I almost lost my home due to an streamline arm refinance. I tried to get help from VA and congressman but nobody helped.

The VA has a homeless prevention initiative that helps homeless veterans find stable housing. What services are available for veterans who have homes but need help with the upkeep, i.e. roof repair, electrical, etc.? There are veterans who would love to stay in their homes, the place where they worked hard to build, but may lose because their home is in disrepair.

When will the family member programs administered by the Veterans Health Administration Office of Community Care (for CHAMPVA specifically) have networks of medical providers? We have found it seemingly impossible to locate any provider in my city who accepts CHAMPVA.

The Veteran Direct Care program is for Vets of all ages that are at risk of nursing home placement. Alot of VA's do not know about this program, such as the Atlanta VA and some of the VA's refuse the program, such as the Montgomery VA. This program will save the VA money and help veterans in need. My father needs this program, especially during this covid time yet noone will help get this program implemented in either Georgia or Alabama. How can we get help with this and why is this program not mandatory?

I've had great VA experience and terrible experience. My doctor is outstanding. Pharmacy not so much. Direct interaction with Pharmacy is positive but some unknown pharmacist screws with my prescriptions without talking to my doctor or me. Am I on the care team? During this pandemic they have been awful. I hate to leave my doctor but I cannot take this Pharmacy. Veterans aren't first so don't kid yourself.

I am a 100% disabled vet and I am not allowed to make any extra income. Then how can a 90% disabled vet can make any amount of money they want. Trying to live on the 100% is not enough money to try and live. Why can 100% disabled vet get more money each month. I know a guy who is 90% disabled and make 26 bucks an hour. Not fair

I'm a disabled veteran so since I got out of the ARMY my husband is the only one capable of working. We live in FL. He has now been diagnosed with M.S. and with covid 19 he cant risk working and will very soon not be able to work at all. We have 4 kids one is out on her own now. But now we're about to be evicted and honestly have no ace to go. If there are resources to help us or someone with a place big enough for my family thats not outrageous rent or rent to own wise please contact me . I hate to say I'm desperate but I honestly we are.

Why are Veterans Hospital on Long Island NY Not open like all the other hospitals on LI, NY?
I just went to The VA Northport Medical Center
And was treated like we had the The Black Plague?? The hearing impaired veterans need to read Lips can’t do that with someone wearing a mask. Attendant at the exist but emergency room exit when told replay “So” we who are impaired Don’t matter?? We’ve paid our debit to this country I serviced during Vietnam they hsve a job because of Us veterans. Is this the new policy at the veterans hopital to be rude and belligerent to veterans. This too goes along with keeping the VA shut down what’s up with that in New York?? We are in NYC all Long Island hospitals Are open. My immune system has been suppressed for the last 30 year's, for rheumatoid arthritis, now with this pandemic spreading so far and wide, I am afraid to leave my bedroom. Trying to be tested, as this virus has spread so quickly in Texas, I would like to be tested without waiting in the car for hours on end and still find out that there are no more test available! Like I said, I am afraid to leave my bedroom and mingle with people. It is difficult to wash my hands because my fingers are so twisted, so I use a lot of 91%Isopropyl alcohol to keep my hands clean. Whenever I go to the store, I wipe the electric shopping cart down with it and everytime I touch something I again douse my hands again. How can a person get the covid19 test without having to go to the E.R.?

I'm curious why civilian doctors are seeing patients, elective surgeries are being scheduled in civilian hospitals yet my local VA continues to cancel appointments? When are we going to get OUR Healthcare back. I feel we deserve the same care as civilians but someone doesn't see it that way because non emergent appointments are still being canceled, procedures that help with pain to keep us off the addicting pain meds are still being canceled. It just doesn't make since to me, and if everyone is required to wear a mask and that is to prevent the spread of COVID-19 why are our appointments still being canceled. I have asked this of schedulers calling to cancel my appointments and I keep getting told by everyone that is out of their control, it has to come from higher up. I've written respectful emails to my mayor, my governor and my congress men, to get nothing except a standard form email response stressing what's being done to prevent the spread, not a single person has actually answered my question.
I need my medical care back.

As a USMC veteran, it is my honor, courage, and commitment to the truth which has me writting you this letter sir. The Post 9/11 G.I. Bill was granted to me after my years of honorable service. In 2013, Commissioner Terrie E. Roberts (whom was just appointed judge in San Diego) imposed the Montgomery G.I. Bill to my income during a TITLE IV-D Hearing, despite myself having shown material evidence that I was not in school at the time and I was ineligible for the Montgomery G.I. Bill. This action led to gross arrears, my homelessness to keep up with payments, my privileges threatened and rights deprived, and unjust enrichment on the part of the other parent.

I am not asking for a handout. I am asking for a meeting with yourself so that I habe the best opportunity to receive redress for my injuries. As a commissioner, Ms. Roberts had a duty to give equal protection to both parties in the matter, and I fear that more veterans can be taken advantage of in this manner if this happens again. I pray this message greets you well.

I am 10% disabled. I have great insurance (Humana) but it doesn't cover dental. I have a tooth that needs a cap ($1,300) which is out reach and just found out I need 2 cavities done. I have two questions that I would like to ask
first question is could someone please help me and my husband who is a disabled veteran 100% with on mortgage we are going to a crisis and need help with your last mortgage payment so we won't lose our house we out on program.

second question is that my husband has service-connected injuries and he tried to do a claim back in 2009 with Mathis and Mathis we did not know anything about veterans or how we are to do claims and Mathis and Mathis said that they would take care of it then he was told that the army had lost his records and he thought that that was correct they did go ahead and apply his Social security but we didn't know until later how to file VA he did an appeal to get back pain but it was denied.
he has had another open claim for 3 years because while in service he hurt his eye ankle and back and they will not decide on this he has the original papers on when it happened they would only do his post stress traumatic 70% but the last two doctors he went to said that he should be 100% we fought against that and they did not add that to what should we do

In 1981 I was placed on active duty with the Navy. I was 17 years old and 2 weeks from being released from a mental hospital. Between the age of 11 and 13, I was repeatedly sexually molested by a catholic priest. These actions made my Navy service suffer. I still suffer from it today. I have contacted as many organizations to help me. I am trying to have my discharge reviewed and hopefully have a status change. I have filed a claim against the catholic church.

How do I have to wait for spousal benefits. My husband passed away last year from conditions affiliated with Agent Orange. I submitted bills for burial expenses and for survivor's benefits back in September 2019. I am still waiting for the reimbursement for burial expenses. As for survivor's benefits they told me I would hear from them by the beginning of June 2020. I know with COVID 19, everything has been delayed but I have not heard from them in months. Is there anything I can do to check on the process? How long do I need to wait for the reimbursement for burial expenses?

There are many of us Veterans who are ex-pats living overseas and need medical help and should be allowed access to the military hospitals worldwide. The have to see retirees but not us b/c space is limited they say. I am rated permanent 100% disabled and live in Germany but except for going to the ER and being allowed to get my prescriptions filled, cannot use the many clinics available at LRMC and I believe this is an injustice. The Army broke me, I should be able to go to the clinics on U.S. Military bases instead of having to try and find local German doctors, who by the way, do not take our VA insurance so I have to pay up front and then put in a claim whereas the base facilities can direct bill the VA. I can understand maybe not being able to see every Veteran but at least see those of us who are 100%.

Question: LtCol Brad Lanto-- As myself assigned to The Villages, Florida clinic, under the umbrella of Gainesville, Florida, having the most concentration of vets in the US, have such a small staff to only see an psychologists within a every 4 week period more or less. Using the crisis line is the only gap-fill the void and now I'm changing psychologists on video to Gainesville, Florida which is a 5 week wait. Can this time be reduced to see more mental professional as Covid=19 keeps us more locked up? Causing more PTSD to be worse?

At the end of February, I requested parts replacement for my CPAP system.
I again requested the same in mid March. This time I brought the parts to be replaced. I went to the first floor prosthetics area. This is where I picked up supplies before. As I stood in line, a lady approached me and asked what I needed. I showed her my broken parts. She ask me for my name and phone number. It is now mid July. Thank her for her lack of prompt response for me. As for my medications, I go online and order them. Can I ask why my CPAP parts are not under that same system? Just so you know, I have called each CPAP location I know. I have called my Team office. I am getting the idea that sleep apnea is no longer a caring feature at McGuire. I think I am getting the hint.

To any VA rep willing to endure an answer to this simple yet complicated problem. I joined the army at the beginning of medpros digitalization of all medical, it was there at the beginning. I thought with the collective digital source that when I get out any claims would be easy, right? It turns out that while deployed literally none of the records taken while overseas ever made it to my medpros or even analog records stored at my duty station, my only duty station that I ever had. This was a problem as I spent 27 months in IRAQ, almost half my enlistment, and I have absolutely no medical records from it. I understand sworn statements but I found it that my problem is quite common in the army. My question is, how could this extremely common problem be addressed?

When I was TDRL and a Chapter 31 Voc Rehab student, my college wanted to know I was healthy enough to enter my profession. When the TDRL board saw evidence that I was "healthy," I lost my DoD benefits. It scared me into staying away from the hospital until I finished my degree. I have an appeal which is pending a higher-level review teleconference. I am paying $1,500/month toward a VA debt that was improperly calculated. I have submitted all documentation proving this to be wrong and I am about to be homeless because the higher-level review hasnt happened yet. I am going to be reimbursed approximately $24,000 once the review occurs over the telephone. Its been 3 or 4 months since Ive requested a higher-level review and Ive done approximately 3 "Inquiries" via the [login to see] number. I have not received ANY phone calls or answers explaining why this isnt handled. I am about to be homeless all because of a VA error. If i become homeless, I WILL GIVE UP. I am 100% service-connected with a very serious mental illness, all the medical research and medical resources say i have the worst mental illness to live day-to-day with, its a personality disorder and im not disclosing which one--ill say its a cluster B and thats it. Everyone of these groups focus on POST 9/11 Veterans w PTSD a possible MILD TBI and or drug alcohol abuse while their wives (caregivers) have Dole Foundation and the V.A. caregiver advisory committee

I truly do applaud all the work done by the veritable laundry list of honored persons mentioned above I have not the words to describe the debt owed you for stepping up.
That said, there is still a long road ahead. programs, treatments and progress made thus far is slowly being eroded away by a system populated by the strongest and best trained workforce in history. Many here are patients in one way or another of the VAMC system. a system that is failing in it's mandate. Yes those of us enrolled get top notch care, WHEN WE CAN GET IT. We are treated by some of the best people in their fields. Except when they aren't available. We have top shelf vision and dental until we need to be seen in person and unlike our medical we can't port it to an available civilian third party. We have even just recently had a person arrested and charged with multiple counts of murder of in patient veterans. and yet the same crime outside of boundaries of the victims being veterans this alleged murderer would be looking at a lethal injection.
My question is this, WHY? When did we become less than? And what do the collective minds assembled here intend to do to rectify the failings?

What, exactly, is being done to overturn/rescind/eliminate the immoral law that gives the VA permission to raid a military retiree's pension if that retiree drops below a 50% disability rating. I have hearing Starky hearing aid from the VA. I'm pushing 80 years old my wife is 77. both Brick & Lyons NJ are more than 40 miles away. I just need cleaning and occasional tune ups but I can't get the VA to agree to use a local Starky provider for the service. The older I get the more difficult the Interstate and major road are for me or my wife to drive and bad weather makes it impossible. Do you have a solution?

My last visit to my VA primary provider in April 2018, I was told that they were only going to see me every two years instead of yearly. I am a 71 year old Vietnam Vet with agent orange exposure and I think that I should be seen more often not less. Our President and Congressman state how the VA has improved and helping the vet's better than before.
I feel that they are just waiting for all of us to die, rather then treat us fairly This year so far April bloodwork and Primary visit cancelled, Now July bloodwork cancelled again and they want to have a telephone call for my primary visit, How do they give me a physical over the telephone for possible agent orange problems?

Why are things not rated “service connected” when they occur and are documented in a Combat Zone? Why, does the Vet get punished (denied service connected) when the Medical personnel IN A COMBAT ZONE don’t spend the time to 100% diagnose issues (I.e. I have waited almost 5 years for multiple dental mistakes were made on me, causing me to lose all my top teeth, after 3 emergency dental surgeries in the last 12-13 months I am left with no top teeth, a ton of suffering..and now the VA Dental debt is telling me its going to be a long time before I get a plate to replace my teeth, which should have never been ground out in the first place. I have had hearing adds since the late 70tis an lately the quality of the adds that I have received are not as good as I could get at a commercial office ,which I can not afroed. How is a veteran suppose to get timely help with PTSD? I told my VA medical provider at a local VA Clinic on July 1, I was having terrible dreams and flash backs from events during my active duty time and they were very hard to live with. He agreed to have me see their mental health professional at the earliest available time, but that was not until July 29th. I asked scheduling if there is anyway to see someone sooner, but they said there was no way to get one sooner. How is the VA going to deal with PTSD and suicides in their veterans if they take a month to get mental health help for veterans. If I were a veteran that was counting on the VA for help and was on the verge of suicide, you would have had one more veteran suicide statistic. What is the VA going to do to streamline mental health scheduling so veterans seeking help don’t have to wait a month to get help?

Why are disabled vets being denied exchange and commissary privileges in Japan? US Forces Japan claims it violates SOFA agreements, however, under SOFA military retirees have access. The Purple Heart and Disabled Veterans Equal Access Act, states; “(d) Eligibility Of Veterans With Service-Connected Disabilities.—A veteran with a service-connected disability shall be permitted to use commissary stores and MWR facilities on the same basis as a member of the armed forces entitled to retired or retainer pay." The language of the law specifically gives service connected vets the same status as a military retirees, but US Forces Japan is ignoring the law. What about "on the same basis" do they not understand? Please help.

Disabled Veterans are not allowed to bring dependents on Space-A flights - this seems like a mistake or oversight in the McCain Defense Act. I have been trying to get it reviewed and changed for years but I can't seem to find anyone who cares to look at this one important line in the law. PLEASE - it would make a world of difference to be able to take my spouse and kids on the flights to see my aging father. There are heaps of open seats every day. Who needs their dependents to be with them more than a disabled veteran? It costs nothing. Please allow us to travel on Space-A with our dependents.

I have a question for the Honorable Cheryl Mason, Chairman of the Board of Veterans' Appeals:

Three years ago, after having learned about the VA's military sexual trauma program, I filed my MST claim, and it has been nothing but a nightmare. On August 29, 1978, I was molested by a Navy flight surgeon, on his examining table, while undergoing the REQUIRED pre-admissions military physical exam for the United States Air Force Academy (I am a 1983 graduate.) It is likely that the Navy kicked this pedophile physician out of the military without prosecuting him, as within about a year he was forced to surrender his medical license (it was later permanently revoked), and he was charged with molesting a boy under the age of 13, and another young man of 18. The signature which this criminal signed from jail, perfectly matches that on my military physical exam. I was sixteen years old when he molested me. The Navy knows he is a felon.

I did my best to succeed in the Air Force, and in life, but eventually I had to quit my career as an airline pilot due to problems with depression and anxiety. Trying to succeed, however, is now being held against me, as the VA expects that sexual assault survivors are supposed to cause more problems for themselves by getting into trouble, sabotaging their own careers, becoming disciplinary problems, etc., thus "proving" that the sexual assault "caused you problems." The VA apparently thinks that being sexually assaulted, by an officer, at the very beginning stages of your military career, isn't necessarily a problem...you have to prove it was a problem...and if you were a "good officer" then good luck proving your case. Losing your job later in life, due to depression and anxiety, losing your marriage, etc. isn't "good enough" as all your problems have to show up in your records while you were in the military. Or that's the way it seems to me. In my case, the VA has dismissed the report from my psychologist, dismissed my "buddy statement" from my former navigator, which stated that I actually DID have problems while serving my country. The VA seems to see what it wants, and dismisses anything that might actually help you "prove" your case, show that being assaulted as a teenager, by an officer, caused you problems.

I have filed my claim, and my appeal, but the VA says that I am not even eligible to file a claim due to "38 Code of Federal Regulations 3.1" which states that even though the assault occurred during my required pre-admissions physical exam, on a military base, by a military officer, I wasn't officially "in" the military, so it doesn't count, I'm ineligible for compensation! The VA has told me that "only Congress" can change the regulation. I have asked the VA to simply ASK Congress to change the law, to point out to Congress this egregious loophole, but the VA has steadfastly refused to go to bat for teenage sexual assault victims who have the misfortune of being molested during the process of joining the military, rather than waiting to get molested after they are sworn in and wearing the uniform.

The VA Compensation team recently told me that filing an MST claim is not my only means of redress, as I have the option of filing a claim with the Department of Defense. The only problem with this is that one can only make these claims within two years of the event occurring, or possibly within two years of realizing it's a problem, so that leaves me out. The VA only told me about this option this month, and I have already spent three years on my MST claim.

The VA has told me (and my Congressman), that the VA can award claims for injuries that were "aggravated" by military service. Having learned that, I have supplied the VA with evidence that military service definitely "aggravated" my problems (I submitted a lengthy report from my psychologist which testified to my PTSD and how it was aggravated by service), but the VA has dismissed that as only the "opinion" of the doctor, and that she failed to develop the timeline, make the direct links between military service and my problems in life, etc. Again, the VA does not recognize that teenagers who are sexually assaulted by military doctors will develop problems in life, that this is even "a thing." I'm not even sure what to say, it's like dealing with the VA is like living in an alternate universe, where even after having provided the VA with evidence I was molested by a Navy flight surgeon (he was CONVICTED of sexually molesting other young boys and men! Lost his medical license!), the VA will not accept that this has caused me any problems. They cannot understand that a teenager who is molested by an officer at the very beginning stages of their career just may have a little more difficulty dealing with other military officers, may want to withdraw, will have a whole host of psychological issues to deal with, will have a harder time in the military and in life in general...

It's like the VA is adamant that my claim not be approved, no matter what evidence I submit. I can understand that there are bad people in this world, that there are bad officers, bad doctors, but to be gaslit by my own government is simply unbelievable to me. The same government, the same politicians, who are up in arms about sexual molestation of young boys by Catholic priests (and rightly so), cannot see that this is even a problem for young teenage boys entering the military. I've been thrown under the bus, made to feel like I'm scamming the system, should just shut up and go away, stop fighting.

I would like the VA to recognize the sexual assault that I experienced as a teenager, when I did nothing more than volunteer to serve my country. I would like this to count. I came forward and told the VA and the military about a CRIME (I wouldn't be surprised if this Navy doctor molested other young service men and women before being shown the door), and instead of being thanked for coming forward, I have been treated as if I AM THE PROBLEM.

My own VA psychiatrist, in Wichita, Kansas, told me that the veterans who are most successful in winning their claims, are those who 1) Lie, or 2) "make noise." I have not, and will not lie, so I'm doing my best to "make noise."

I would greatly appreciate your help. I would like the VA to ASK Congress to change the law so that veterans who were sexually assaulted during the official pre-admissions process are eligible for VA compensation, that they be treated "just as if" they were already in the military.

I would also like to know what the time line will be, when I file my appeal with the VA Board of Appeals, before my case is heard and decided. I will submit final "supplemental evidence" to the VA when I receive the final report from the criminal investigation into my assailant, but even if my assailant makes a full confession, I doubt that will sway the VA one bit, as they will STILL say that I am ineligible to file a claim, and that I was a "good officer" when I was in the Air Force, and that I cannot prove that being sexually molested, as a teenager, caused me any problems (because the VA apparently refuses to consider long term mental health consequences of teenage sexual molestation, plus they refuse to acknowledge buddy statements from fellow service members that refute the VA's preferred narrative.)

Thank you for your help. I am a survivor of military sexual trauma, and I ask that my government acknowledge the crime that was committed against me, when I was a teenager, and volunteered to serve my country.

I bought a house in 1991 my wife died in 2001. I wanted to bower a loan to put money in the home. The home need plenty of work. The loan people say I need to got to probate court. My wife had 2 airs. BLUF:What now.

My job is amazing. I work as a Safety manager and an environmental Coordinator (government employee). Finished my bachelors in business management with the GI bill in 2008, cancer in 2014, multiple surgeries/chemo/radiation, etc. Lost several organs, run like a broken frog, neuropathy on the left side, stents in my veins so they don’t cave in, lost my left kidney due to too much radiation and have migraines (vomiting, lost bowels sometimes) now between 3-5x a week. I am returning to school to reinvent myself before the migraines take every day of the week. I sometimes cannot remember what I was currently doing. There’s also the fun of a deep vibration that will pop off in my head and make me dizzy/not hear/sight is cock-eyed for 30 straight seconds...then completely disappear. The mind is failing me and I am trying to get my masters (I am paying for it) before it is gone....but, I have straight A’s! Too young to retire, too much pain and physically broken to keep my job and the money is really good. What do I do now? Oh, and my spouse is still active duty. We will not know if he gets promoted or retires until the very last minute (Jan 2021.) Either here is promoted or has 5/6 months left. Whew!

After a long deployment. Life finally opened up an opportunity for me to go to finish school but my GI Bill benefits "expired". I'm told I have less than six months left, and I have just under a year of school left. I applied for a STEM extension, but I'm told because I haven't used all of my benefits the VA refuses to let me use, I can't qualify for other programs I would normally qualify for. Why can't I use the rest of the benefits I do have, but then am denied using any other benefits available to me at the same time? It seems there is a conflict with the rules, and I've reached out, they understand the issue, but no will help fix anything.

I got a new pair of glasses from the Lyons NJ VA February 26, 2020. I was on vacation The week the glasses were sent to my home (103 Doyle St, Piscataway, NJ, 08854), returned home March 22, tried on the glasses and the prescription was not correct Notified VA, because of Covid19 I was told that at a later date the glasses would be replaced. To date (July 21,2020) I have not heard anything from this department. I have heard from the hearing center and have been scheduled for end of August. I would like the glasses replaced, obviously an exam is required.

I worked at VA hospital louisville ky. For 10 and a half years. I was set up for termination by administration for reporting the use of dirty instruments on patients for more than 8 years. VA admin was caught manufacturing evidence to terminate me. I was given a settlement agreement and job to keep my mouth shut. I was again being set up a second time for reporting 300 critical lab errors per month. I was being threatened and had been physically assaulted at the VA, in front of half a dozen people. I have PROOF of everything I say. Forbes magazine did an article about this, it's on my Facebook page. VA is covering this up to this day. My life is ruined for standing up for my patients and my veterans. I had moral and ethical responsibility to DO MY JOB! I have attempted suicide numerous times because of this. With so many of our brothers and sisters who have serve and are waiting for disability desicions and regional offices or BVA and unable to work so their unable to apply for stimulus help. What can be done in next cares act for us. They are giving away $3000 a month to other Americans. But Veterans are hurting homeless why can't they look into giving Veterans who are seeking disability help get a 100 percent at least until covid is over or even continue and still review claims to see if back pay can be granted

Why is it that over the last several months I have not been receiving my travel pay to my Local CBOC in Longview Texas and for my travel to my Counselor for counseling. I have been to the CBOC twice , once for a blood draw and once for a Dr's appointment with Dr. Ing and still have received no travel pay for those two appointments. I have also been to my counselor, Pamela Fisher, four times in the last several months and have received no travel pay for any of those visits. The paper work was submitted by myself or a request at the CBOC was requested by myself and have had no results whatsoever. If you can check into this I would appreciate it. I believe any questions you may have I could answer easiy, best over the phone or in person [login to see] ). I've been optimistic that my appeal decision would come through. More than eight years later, I finally received my date and hearing. Now I'm told there is no timeline, when the judge has made his decision I will find out. There is no one to call and check. Am I to wait another near decade? There is absolute certainty that my disability (s) came from my time, my obligation serving in the US military. I've resubmitted the evidence the miltary and the VA already had, proving without a doubt what was claimed. Why is this continuing on any further?

3 yrs and some change as 11b active duty. Reenlisted for 4 more years going for 20 and was about to go to Fort Campbell but pissed hot (marijuana) due to personal family problems. Alcohol dont cure anything, it made it worst. DD214 stated completed first full term of service and was told that I would get G.I Bill. I still havnt gotten anything or even a letter back from my Discharge upgrade. What should I do next? I would love to use G.I bill to further my education.

Should I die first, is there anything my spouse should do regarding the remaining mortgage as it relates to VA? I have been retired from the AirForce for 10 years now. My wife and autistic daughter were in Greece last July and my wife got sick and hasn't been able to return to the U.S. Both my wife and daughter have immune system disease, doctors feel that is what the problem is now with her lungs shutting down (not COVID related) she is currently at 25% lung capacity, her left lung will not inflate it is blocked with so much mucus and inflamed tissue. When not on oxygen her O2 drops into the low 80s and high 70s if she exerts herself, her resting O2 is high 80s, hovers around 90. The doctors have said it wasn't safe for her to travel by airplane so Greek Immigration gave her and our daughter a 1-year residence permit in January 2020. I however was denied, no explanation given and was told I had to leave or would be deported in February.

We rented a house an hour west of Athens and my wife has had 3 hospital visits of greater than 3 weeks for biopsies, lung capacity testing, and surgery to attempt to clear material from her lungs. The U.S. embassy in Athens says they cannot do anything and referred me to Greek Immigration, Greek Immigration refuses to answer emails or phone calls. I contacted the Greek Presidency who referred me to Greek Foreign Affairs who stated they needed a formal request from the U.S. State Department before they will consider allowing me to return to care for my wife and daughter. The hotline for the State Department has been zero help, they referred me to an emergency number but that number only helps with U.S.citizens trying to return to the U.S. not citizens trapped in another country too sick to leave. They then referred me to U.S. Customs and Border Patrol who were dumbfounded as to why since they only deal with immigration issues of persons coming into the U.S. not citizens trapped in another country.

I have reached out to my old commanders who are still serving and have been referred to make congressional inquiries which I did 2 weeks ago. Senator Dick Durbin's office has not replied to my request, Senator Tammy Duckworth has replied but I have not heard back in a week and a half. Congressman Kinzingers office has been more communicative but still no answers on what can be done. I have been referred to contact other Congressmen such as Senator Tom Cotton and Don Bacon as I heard they are more military-friendly, even if I am not from their districts/states.

My wife is alone in the hospital after her 3rd surgery this month and is very scared and alone. I finally attempted to call the White House phone number and again nothing, was actually told they didn't believe me, and something was wrong with my story as if someone would lie about something like this. I offered to send the White House all of her medical documentation and pictures and videos from our Facebook Messenger chat sessions....can't offer any facts more indicative of the problem than that but they didn't care to see them...really perturbed at the White House supervisor insinuating I was lying.

I thought the President said he was looking for ways to reduce veteran suicides....he can start with his staff and cabinet members and how they treat honorably retired combat veterans who call asking for assistance and direction in a humanitarian/hardship situation. Where do I go from here? Some have suggested contacting the press in both the U.S. and E.U. and create a stink, but that is something my wife doesn't want, she is afraid Greek authorities who have threatened her in the past will force her to get on a plane even though she is too weak to walk without assistance.

But I'm tired of getting the runaround from every single bureaucrat, calling me a liar, I'm on a rollercoaster of emotions ranging from severe depression and hopelessness to extreme anger that the 20 years I spent on active duty serving my country is met with such disdain as I can't get a simple letter or phone call making a request for me to be by my wife's side while she is suffering!! She is a military dependent and apparently that doesn't matter to our government because they are doing nothing. My 24-year-old daughter who is a higher functioning autistic is alone in the house, we have neighbors who look in on her but she is still alone most of the day.

Looking for answers to prevent this tragedy in the making.

I put in to add my wife to my claim. We were married Dec 7, 2020. The VA said a certificate of marriage was not proof of marriage. I got the proof squared away. After a few years they approved but chose an arbitrary date of 2013 as the actual date. I sent in an appeal five years ago and the VA has not even acknowledged receipt of it. What's up with that?

Why is the VA ignoring most VA Medical care when civilian operations are moving forward. Every apppointment I have had since March has been cancelled. I am abhorred on the negligent care for our veterans. I have had to spend thousands of dollars outside the VA to get the care I need.

Due to illness I would be in a Nursing Home if I was single. My wife provides me with support , are there other resources and/or for me and for my wife who will be quitting work to take care of me. When it comes to healthcare services do I only get optimal use of my medical benefits at the VA or can it be used elsewhere? For example; if I go to Kaiser Permanente because I'm covered there as well. Will I be able to use my VA healthcare to cover any additional costs?

When I signed up with the VA originally, the application form had various categories for classifying veterans and I was unclear if I should put Vietnam Veteran or not, so I called the 800 number for guidance. Was I a Vietnam Veteran for VA purposes even if I did not fight on the ground there? They asked if I had the Vietnam Service Medal, and I said yes, I do. So they said I qualified in that category. As a consequence of that, I did not need to submit detailed financial information.
Recently the VA cut off my participation because there was no financial information form on file in Atlanta. I submitted one and my benefits were restored. But I still wonder what the correct situation is here. If Atlanta finds fault with my financial data, will I be cut off again?

1) Is there any funds available to help with our son’s Texas A&M University tuition and fees fall 2020?

2) What VA agency will help me defend, protect, my Veteran Father from neglect, money being stolen, and abuse? This will ensure we can return him to a healthy state and help with his memory decline. He lives in FLORIDA. My two brothers sent photos of inside his house and bank statements: bank statements showing $5000, $5000, $2000, $1200 back to back withdrawals and many more, no food in the refrigerator, house overrun with piles of clothes, papers&mail, passed due bills, as well as car loan payments (but Father does not have a new car). I would like to know why the VA healthcare system does nothing for the Veterans when it comes to fertility? They do not help with IVF for either male or female Veterans. Also, I was taken off the needing care for back issues because of my service when all of a sudden I was take off the care program. the excuse was not given to me. When my wife and I went to the VA Hospital it was a maze trying to find anyone who can help. the End result was I paid an arm and leg to go pay for treatment at a private hospital in MEXICO to do what the VA could not and would not do. Also, why is it that the staff is not held accountable and terminated when neglecting Veterans? I get attitudes when I ask about results for my labs. an example is what is my Liver levels at, the response is oh it's normal what is the range, etc. this is unexcitable.

Presently the VA Community Care Network has not developed efficient working relationships with smaller hospitals, dental and eye care facilities in smaller towns. Veterans attempting to get bills paid through the now defunct Choice Program are being referred to OPTUM UnitedHealthCare to do the follow up and pay some bills, requiring multiple phone calls, poor responses, and frustrated clients and providers.Without proper management I suspect this program will go the way of the discredited Veterans Choice program.

Why does the VA deny their own research done in Louisville VA and published in the American Journal of Urology in Jan 1991 by denying a presumptive relationship between Renal Cell Carcinoma and exposure to Agent Orange? After reporting military dependent spouse 20/20/20 to DVA OIG, DFAS, Congressional inquiry, the pension center, who did not know my ex , now FS CH-61 100% SC TPD retired, estranged now FS identity theft used military dependents for now more than six years and counting, collected both DOD and DVA compensation, grants, social security, amended IRS returns, and profited from these actions through even his most ridiculous fraud action yet, a CH-13 Bankruptcy filing in May of 2019, entering altered pay documents to a Federal court, amending pay schedules four times, not listing one civil divorce court ordered action, and not acting on one of them, citing "I don't know what CRDP is", and also citing "I wasn't aware we were divorced". I would love to know why the DVA, although claims were filed, and he never changed his address from the estranged marital address, the DVA OIG citing him a "Criminal Felon", has no open case against him, and has done not a thing in now more than 2 years? I am an AD Registered Nurse, I was AD Army, A Gulf War Veteran, and worked DVA civil service and US Army civil service as an RN. FTC, local FBI, OIG, 65,000.00 in legal fees later and counting addressing this sham bankruptcy, and no one does a thing aside of protect "HIS PENSION" are you kidding me? I have a support order. And the DVA does not a thing. Must I knock on the front door of the White House? Topping it all off, he's had 2 non-military persons using our identities for more than six years supporting them with FEDERAL compensation with our names on it. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN AND WHY DOES THE DVA KNOW AND DO NOT A THING ASIDE OF SAY HIS PENSION IS PROTECTED? THIS IS COMPLETELY NOT TRUE.

When is the VA going to finally bend over and yell “pop” and get the IT issues resolved for caregivers for pre 9/11 veterans? Also, as a surviving spouse I am receiving Spousal Pension monthly. I am not eligible for Champus, unfortunately, but have been advised that I am eligible to be reimbursed for my out of pocket medical expenses. Are there financial resources for installation of a home generator? i am a c3/4 complete spinal cord injured non service connected veteran. along with the usual medical equipment - ie, power chair, hospital bed, mattress, suctioning machine, etc, i use a ventilator at night. my spinal cord injury also makes me subject to autonomic dysreflexia, a life threatening condition. if my house gets too hot, this could be triggered. my va doctor has agreed that a home generator is necessary, however i was told the va could not provide the generator. i could apply for a hisa grant, but 2,000 covers about one fifth of the cost. any leads or suggestions for financial assistance is greatly appreciated.

I am a Marine that served in combat in Vietnam during 1966 and 1967. During that time I was wounded three individual times and spent over four months hospitalized. Thank you for this event. I have a mental health related question that perhaps LtCol Lanto can answer. As research continues in the study and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorders--particularly in the very different presentations noted in females--more individuals are learning later in life that they're on the spectrum. This is equally true among Veterans. A major concern for those who are on the spectrum and not diagnosed earlier in life is they frequently either fall through the cracks or end up misdiagnosed (and, therefore, improperly treated) for years before learning of their neurodiversity. A common trend among neurodiverse individuals who are undiagnosed/misdiagnosed is premature death by way of suicide.

Given the VA's mission in suicide prevention, does the VA currently have resources for diagnosis and treatment of adults on the spectrum by professionals with specified training and experience in Austism Spectrum Disorders in adults (and women, where differentiation is applicable)? And, if not, is the VA considering implementing such resources either internally or by way of external consultations in community care?

Among Veterans who have learned after their service that they're on the spectrum, many fear approaching the VA with this because they believe their VA benefits would be negatively impacted as a result. Naturally, providers *not* having this information can have very real and potentially negative effects on the treatment Veterans receive (both mental and physical health). I would imagine that even just approaching the topic of neurodiversity among Veterans and the impacts it does or doesn't have on benefits in addition to guidance on available resources could go a long way in improving Veteran healthcare and suicide prevention for those this applies to.

Another question. Thank you for putting this on. There seems to be many organizations that want to help veterans, but it is very hard to navigate who can help with what. Has anyone put together a simple file or website that lists most of the organizations and what they help with?

I'm homeless hungry after a temporary set back. I'm hungry and with situational mental.health issues. is there a place to.gain trackson for several.days as it becomes a very slippery slope the longer you are homeless without an address to even get medications

Hello, All. Thank you for being here today. And thank to those who have served or are serving right now. I am a Service Coordinator working with HUD subsidized senior housing residents. I have several veterans who consistently need help with resources. I do my best with what I know from a civilian standpoint but would love to know what's out there in terms of in-home care, help with finances/bills, food, etc. The biggest issue I'm having is helping a vet try to navigate the VA medical system. He is constantly feeling as if there is a systemic cover up and bias towards him in seeking medical care. I'm trying to advocate for him but I'm not familiar enough with the system itself. Added to that would be the question of whether he can use his health benefits in the civilian sector to get the help he needs. Thank you for any responses.

My husband has a brain injury that is not service connected. The VA has been great, covering all of his medical treatment. Except for the ambulance bill, that I have been trying to get paid for a year and a half. I have made countless phone calls.
He will be unable to work again. We have been self-employed for years so he is not eligible for disability, per the Social Security Dept. Are the any other resources out there?

One last question. I have been trying for awhile to get ALL of my VA medical records. I know about the "Blue Button" on myhealthyvet, but the issue is that MOST of my records are not included with that service. I was told that I need to file a FOIA request to gain access to my records. I was given this https://www.va.gov/foia/ link. I have spent time on that website and still not able to figure out how to submit a FOIA request and who to submit it to. It's difficult to understand how organizations can do this easily, but it's difficult for the veteran to obtain his/her own records.

@hhs why is our rating counted as countable income for child support? Also why are we held to earning potential when our disability affects our employment? Why is our VA paperwork looked at like it’s just trying to get out of support? Domestic relations can and does garnish our Benefits indirectly. So many of my veteran friends end up with the same problem. Then we end up not having enough to support our family and it’s down hill from that point. I have already been to the state reps.......nobody will touch child support issues!

I work with The Amare Company. It isaa company that addresses mental wellness issues through educating folks about healthy lifestyle choices including nutrition, better sleep, stress resilience, pain relief, etc. My husband is a retired Army veteran and has seen first hand the affects PTSD, etc. can have on military members and families. My claim was filled March 9, the CAP exam and lab was completed in April with all paperwork submitted. I need someone that can make it happen call me to do something other than say sorry

I'm a spouse who is barely holding the family together. My husband is incarcerated these last 2 years awaiting trial. We have 5 children ranging in age from 3-12. I had been a stay at home mom until this happened. We lost everything: our house, our savings, our dignity. I was completely lost. I went to my local VetCenter, and was told that it would be inappropriate for me to join the Spouses' support group- I might scare the other wives. I went to the local VSO, he couldn't help either. I went to the local VJO, she put me in touch with the VJO for where my husband is detained. There is no Veteran's Court on the Federal level. My husband was on the TDRL at the time, and I had to fight like hell to get him an evaluation that would be acceptable to that office. I flew to San Antonio to stand in for him during his PEB. I have collected a mass of research about PTSD/TBI/MST and its intersection with the Justice system. I advocate for him constantly; he's not getting any mental health treatment, his meds are constantly being changed, combined, or differently dosed. I want the VA teleheath system available to him and the other Veterans who are detained with him. Meanwhile, I can't find therapists for me or the kids, very few practitioners take Tricare around here. We are technically homeless under the McKinney-Vento Act, but that doesn't help us get housing. I can't find a job that pays enough for childcare, despite a college degree, teaching license, and decade of experience as a Key Spouse/FRG. I can't afford to go back to school and retrain, and I can't use his GIBill, as he's only 90%. I can't claim any hiring preference. My mental health is suffering, and that of my parents (both veterans), and my kids. No housing, no counseling, no money, no decent job. Everyday I am fighting for something. All four of my sons are some kind of SpEd. I advocate for them. The Detention center messed up hubby's meds, I drive 2 hours to confront the med staff and get it straightened out resulting in a new SOP for the facility. I go to school at night trying to become an RN. The school I applied to waitlisted and then rejected me, 'having 5 kids would make it very difficult to complete our program successfully'....what? My husband was treated for his TBI while on active duty. After he retired they continued to treat him on-post. When we relocated and enrolled him at the local VA we told them he needed to be in the TBI clinic, as a continuity of care. He was told NO. Then they proceeded to re-test him for everything he'd done on active duty. More than 6 months later (one week after his arrest) we got a mailer that included an appointment at the TBI clinic. What a slap in the face. His arrest might have been prevented if his symptoms had been addressed. This is a long rant and a complex case, I know. I'm just at the end of my rope and running out of knots to hold onto. We're a veteran family. We need help.
