I am in the career search stage with the VA’s vocational rehabilitation employment CH31. Obviously not the most advantageous time due to the current national health emergency. Are there employers still hiring within legal and administrative positions? How are employers hiring during this pandemic (telecommunications or virtually)? I am finding the career search to be disheartening and it’s difficult for me to remain optimistic when the data looks horrible. Do you have any advice for veterans in this career search position? It seems as if you all do not value our leadership and experience. Why should we start at the bottom when our government has already spent so much money training us to be at the top? Even the government will not let us start at say a GS-7 and then apply for a GS-9 or higher position that may open up while we are currently in a position (even if it is temporary or an internship), that pays more money. I have applied to so many positions at the VA only to watch them consistently erroneously disqualify me (and re-qualify me after I call and raise cane), or remove the position altogether because they wanted to promote someone, were required to list the position, did not think anyone else would have the qualifications, so the Supervisor pulls the position and "changes their mind" about hiring someone. They need an external HR oversight for postings!! IG is a joke so please do not mention them!

I am a disabled veteran. I recently earned a masters degree in facilities management, a bachelors in business management. I am a licensed electrician in Massachusetts. I am 57 years old and applied to countless job postings private and government. I have yet to receive a job offer. My resume is finely tuned. I continue to be rejected. Why when it comes to hiring the Veteran do we have to jump through so many hoops? We fill out USA jobs apps and then present so much paperwork and then when we are selected we have to go through so much verification through several data agencies proof from several civilian agencies plus criminal agency and fingerprinting. I have had a terrible experience applying in the VA system for a healthcare position and Military experience doesn't count for anything. Why does applying for a federal job require documentation of state licenses? The whole process has taken months with all its redundancy and meaningless paperwork and almost want to not even bother. Then there is the civilian worker stigma of I am only here 8 hrs and I will just do the minimum required before breaks and meals and go home. No phone calls back or no information from all government agencies in any kind if a timely manner.

It’s very hard to obtain a Job at the VA if you don’t know someone already. Then if you are a Veteran with schooling you get paid at a GS 3 on a temporary appointment and a stranger walks in with no schooling no experience but knows someone and starts out at a GS5 or 6

Hello, I'm a veteran from from the US Navy and served active duty from 2007-2011. I'm currently a police officer and have been since 2012. I now have a wife and four children who I love. Sadly, due to the recent events with the murder of George Floyd, police officers have been targeted around the country.

Are you kidding me?? Veteran, BA degree,15 years experience in material handling NO CRIMINAL RECORD. I reply to this email AND IT DOESN'T ACCEPT EMAILS!

That facility is riddled with cronyism and i am assuming gross incompetence.
I know a person who was a shoe in to the VA as a counselor who never served, no college, and no experience for the past 7 years.

The difference? His father has connections there.

Not sure what to accomplish with this, but it needs to be told and heard. The amount of pain from my time in the Navy and the constant disappointment of the VA is sickening.

I'm separating in 2021 and going to work towards starting up a local farm growing produce. I've heard that Walmart has some kind of "local produce" section, and I know that Amazon has a produce delivery option now too. Is there a way for veteran farmers to get into these? What does it take to get hired on at the VA? I applied for two jobs quite some time ago, but never heard anything back. I figured they were looking for something else or I simply was over qualified. I found it unusual because I kept being told to apply for a job at the VA. After time passes, I start seeing people I had seen in different positions relocate to new positions. I ask them how they like their new jobs, and they say great. How is it multiple people are moved all around but I can't even get a job there? I found it rather odd. By the way, I would chat withother veterans waiting for appts, and they could actually tell me who used to work where. It just makes me wonder.

Good Evening, I want to get my foot in the door at one of these reputable companies. I just recently retired from the Army after 21 years. You know I served this country for 27 years as a combat soldier fighting terrorism around the world. And I can't get a job at the va Hospital here in Milwaukee Wisconsin I feel like I gave but got nothing in return for my giving I have 5 kids I've missed so many proms, pta meeting basketball games graduations babies being born. Hello, I am a retired SFC currently in DFW. I am looking for an internship with any company that is taking veterans. I have a AA, BA, Masters and 2- Post Graduate Degrees. I am looking to expand thru employment while I continue to pursue a PhD. I have found that there aren't many employers that assist employees at this level of education. I have found it harder to get a call back if I mention my education than if I just say I have a BA. I like to find an employer that is willing to give a veteran with post-graduate education a chance and it has been my experience that at that level I am supposed to have years of experience in the field (My degrees are in Management, Organizational leadership and human capital), and while the military provide plenty of experience, it does not provide civilian experience expected fo someone with that level of education (it is hard to explain that I am almost a PhD holder with no civilian -all military- experience). After getting medically retired, I did a career change to IT. I went from help desk intern to now IT Consultant, got my Associates, a CCNA along with a handful of other certs, and am almost done my BS in NetOps and Security from WGU. All in about 5 years.

Hello, Despite a supposed disabled veteran preference, I've been turned down over several years for a VA nurse positions. I'm a 19 year RN in good standing with 3 state licenses. For me, the VA hiring process has been, overall, demoralizing. My fellow nurse colleagues, including VA nurses and physicians, have said many times, you should be working here! I've even had a couple VA HR reps say "you've been presented and recommended for the job, but it's up to the managers to hire." Well, maybe VA management is a little too comfortable, because I've done everything I can, given my situation, to be a VA nurse. That's been my goal for over a decade. Now, as I face extended unemployment, perhaps it's just an elusive dream. I don't think I'm asking for much. Just a chance to be a VA nurse, and work as long as I can to maintain my independence and care for my fellow veterans. Also, a chance to not rely so much on VA monetary support. Anyone know of some non-routine avenues I can try, given my situation?

I will say this..as a retired SM Walmart does not recognize people with disabilities.So while working at Walmart if you decide to call in because of one of your service connections/disabilities more than 5 times your terminated..because of their 5 point system. Do any of your companies/organizations hiring parameters include my 20+ years experience within the logistics and transportation industries with both domestic and international focus? My experience

These are great opportunities for any veteran but I have worked for Walmart and it's not a very good place to work for. Since I left in 2013 I have only seen 3 people in our super center that were there when I was there. The rest of the people had left and when I ask them why? Because Walmart treats its employees like dirt; at least in my town. Not even a single manager still exists from when I was there. Is it a job? Sure. But is is no career unless you like being treated like dirt. Maybe corporate is different? idk but I wouldn't be willing to find out.

More often than not, LARGE & SMALL companies/agencies (govt) find themselves in a rut. They find that their (in)ability to hire appropriately has created a culture of micromanaging subordinates & mid-level supervisors watching the clock after lunch as much as their employees, maybe more. The idea of “keeping busy” improves with with experience. Unfortunately, the company/agency is so top-heavy with “leaders”, that their actual involvement with those who would benefit the most from the help of these leaders, ends up on TV PROGRAMS, “Undercover Bosses”. However, there are SOME people who have the skill sets to change these cultural fallacies from continuing. I fully understand how these changes can be made. I fully understand the effort required to begin the process. My only request is that if YOU choose an individual whose SOLE INTEREST are the other workers and THEIR SUCCESS, are YOU willing to buy into this ideology?! It WILL be uncomfortable, I promise. Nobody progresses in complacency. If you WANT change & improvement it works top-down & bottom-up. VALUABLE teachers/trainers create VALUABLE leaders. In my family I have my wife & 5 kids. If I take care of ALL of their needs, while I do NOT expect reciprocity, I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO. Yes, somewhat ideal. When it works, I have NO concerns. Why is this? Just like training & coaching a football team, a program has been created. Are we “ALL IN?” If not the program is only as strong as a weak link. As long as a company is able to recruit STRONG TALENT and honestly take care of their employees w/o worrying about the bottom line, DON’T you believe or trust in these employees to give THEIR BEST EFFORT .. to EARN their paycheck honestly & with ethics & integrity?!

I'm a Phi Beta Kappa (you probably don't even know what that signifies) from U.C. Berkeley (graduated 1971).

I'm looking for an interesting job that pays well (who isn't?):-). I created my own fashion import business in the early '70s, met some terrific sales guys from Manhattan (showroom in NYC on 5th Ave) and we gradually developed it. I created offices in Hong Kong (where I mainly lived for years), Taipei, and Seoul. My main distribution center was in Carson, CA.

If it might make sense to meet, have some coffee and discuss it, that would be wonderful. I'm just hoping to have the good fortune to meet someone who may be able to give me good, specific ideas, and perhaps good people to meet.

I have vast amount of talent in Sales.Sales Management (Micro Managing)dedicated have constantly excelled in top positions in sales and recruitment,Have started two companies from the ground up .Midwest work ethic accomplishing all goals and surpassing .Also a vary other talents.However my only slight issue is putting it in a resume that would stand out .
I have posted a couple of time's on LinkedIn for a resume writer.
Unlike me they all seem to have not enough strength to pick up that phone and only want to test or email.
I feel how can they help with they have basic communication issues to really understand my talents.
Is anyone aware of anyone one that is willingbto work a little bit as Im in the office today as normal writing this

It is great mom and pop stores to major corporations are reaching out to veterans and their spouses for employment opporunities. I hope they will consider the children of those veterans as well. God, Country, Family. "A soldier doesn't fight because they hate what is in front of them. A soldier fights because they love what they left behind." - unknown. The veterans and their families (at times the spouses and children are left behind due to the ultimate sacrifice) need the trust and guidance of the CEO's Presidents, Corporate Executives, and Store Owners to advocate for the veterans and their families because they are the next generation of leaders in the public and private sector. Creativity through various internships, job sharing positions, full-time positions with full-time benefits are needed. The veteran and their families gave their minds and bodies to defend everything the United States of America stands for so please open up your hearts and your office doors for them. The companies need to do commercials and create websites to make it easier for the veterans and their families. Thank You!

As the Spouse and Caregiver to a Service-Connected Disabled Veteran, I would think there are many others in my same position who would be interested in a Living-Wage telecommute position, that would enable the Veteran Spouse to work from home and still care for the Veteran. I would think that the desire to repatriate Customer Service jobs has never been greater. Are these positions available? If so, which Companies and positions? Telehealth is another area of growth. My personal experience with USAA and Amazon has been exceptional as far as the people providing Customer Service and assistance. Customers who are hard of hearing or older, can find it difficult to understand what is being said over a phone or VOIP. Clear English, spoken in a slower manner can be very helpful.

I too appreciate so very much the support on the hiring side. I would like to see more help offered during the new-hire integration period in the form of job coaching, or even peer mentoring for those veterans whose disabilities do not always show on the outside, meaning those resources would be already within that hiring organization. I am specifically talking about someone particularly trained to liaison with HR or a new hire's manager -- who can iron out early fears, or adjustments that may seem small or petty to a seasoned employee, but can be a big problem to a veteran who is suffering in silence after taking the huge step of joining a new team. Many times, I think that otherwise valuable employees become misunderstood when the issues of PTSD lead to peer ostracization, or leadership thinks "drug use" and sends the new hire out for a second test - when that is not the case at all. Veterans can integrate fully with just a little more understanding early on.

I don’t believe that Amazon is a Veteran friendly company, I worked there last year. I has several shifts during the holidays and then only had one shift every two weeks. I started another job full time and was told that I could work their anymore unless I could work full time. I would not recommend spending any time or effort with Amazon. Several other employees had the same experience.

What opportunities might exists for veterans who left the service as a whistle blower? There are many dedicated former military-like myself- who want to continue to serve, but were forced to leave the military early because the role they played in revealing a problem and subsequent retaliation. My Question(s)... What is being done to train the veterans who are in programs - previously homeless, getting some sort of assistance, or other ways we know they need employment to fill these positions? There should be quick training programs that can be completed, some off-the-job if necessary, to help fill these positions with the people who truly need them. I felt lucky to be able to get approved for a program like Voc/Rehab, but it has been a huge headache and costly to me so far. I understand things are tough now but it is more than just the current situation.

this question goes to cheryl mason , my step dad passed away in 2012 an an we tried to get DIC for my mom the initial report said that he probraably didnt die of the cancer that he had while on active duty , so we appealed the decision an was denied again , an we was told that its final an no other way of trying to get DIC for my mom . my question to you is i think the answer we got saying the word probrably is correct for getting a correct answer on this , i think if there is doubt it should be awarded to my mom , when my step dad died she was left with no income being married to him for 33 years i believe she deserves a more positive answer where there is no question from the report what caused his death, thank you for taking the time to answer this question because if we could get a appeals judge to look at this again i think it would turn out different an that is a important for my mom .

I am a DV @ 40%, suffering since 1985. I owned a bus for 21 yrs before hitting bottom w this PTSD crap, now I am forced to drive 6 nights a week for Uber/Lyft to make ends meet (waiting on VA Appeals for PTSD, which has already been 3 YEARS in the Appeals process).
I have a vast amount experience in computers, software, graphic arts, web design, sales, marketing, etc, etc. I am intelligent, a hard worker, loyal, and I just want to be Happy, and be a PRODUCTIVE American. I'd prefer a diff source of income, and am prepared to relocate. Blessings, John

My question is in regards of the VA hiring timeline. I have had two interviews for an ICT position. However, I was not contacted via USAJOBS or HR so I am uncertain of the job status or expectations for the hiring process.

Also, quite some time ago I saw an article released by the VA in regards to different roles that a 68W or prior service member are qualified for. I do remember health aid technician roles being one of them, but am curious of the others?

Working for a State Agency in California as a LVER, Local Veterans Employment Representative, and am wondering: how many of the companies on the discussion have Military Translators on their hiring pages so that a Veteran can easily look into certain positions within a company based upon their MOS? I know so do, but not all...if I am correct?

ALSO, I get emails from certain companies/Recruiters from certain companies (on this discussion board) stating that we can email them back with potential applicants, but when this happens, it takes a very long time to get some type of response. Is there some way we can get not only the Recruiter info for our area (Region/State), but also a local contact who knows what the Recruiter is doing (putting out there that there are positions within the company, within our local communities -- there seems to be a disconnect between the Recruiter and the local POC for said company. The local POC tells us THEY ARE NOT HIRING, even after showing them the emails/fliers the Recruiters are publishing. This really disheartens Veteran job seekers and really puts a stain on the company...especially when companies tout that they are a "Veteran-friendly" company. I know there are other ways the employer can tout they are Veteran-friendly, but this initial experience ruins things.

Hello everyone. I am a currently enrolled in the VA's Voc Rehab program, with a 30% service connected disability and I am looking for a job. My VA counselor said I would be a great fit as a vocational counselor due to my prior work experiences and education. I would really love to work for the VA in some capacity but I know they're not hiring at the moment. Any suggestions as to where I can apply to at least get my foot in the door?

I'm disabled to the point of only doing desk work, yet most of my skills are strongly tied to my physicality. Mechanical/electromechanical troubleshooting/repair, electronics, connectivity, Audio/video systems design/tshooting, etc...
All largely physical roles, and not a one I can do any longer.

The support roles I'm being offered are either WAY beneath my skills and deserved pay, or WAY past my skills or limited education.

I have some networking IT skills/education, and very strong writing skills. But ne'er the twain shall meet, so to speak.

Greetings and thank you all for this opportunity to ask questions. I have recently taken a position with a Veterans Services Office at a university. I will be their Program Coordinator overseeing professional development. This is a new position for the VSO and I'm just trying to make contacts and gather information. One of my responsibilities will be to help the military-affiliated students find internships and possible job opportunities. Do your companies have a particular individual in your offices I could communicate with to discuss such opportunities? Also, do you have any staff members who give talks or workshops to universities? Thank you. (just so you know my former husband is a veteran and my two sons are veterans)
