I found out about 20 years after my discharge that carbon tetrachloride is a carcinogen. I am sure that if the other chemicals we used were investigated, many of them would be classified in the same category. During MWD training we were required to swim across a swamp (against our request not to due to the sludges present) that was obviously full of some chemical. It had a bad smell and an oily residue. Recently, I learned that exact area was a dumping ground for agent orange. According to several news articles hundreds of drums of it was buried at that part of the post. VA stated &quot;Service connection for hypertension is granted with an evaluation of 0 percent effective August 10, 2022.&quot; A higher evaluation of 10% is not warranted for hypertensive vascular disease unless the evidence shows a diastolic pressure predominantly 100 or more and there is a requirement for continuous medication for control. <br />I am on continuous medication (four different prescriptions) and it keeps my diastolic pressure in the high 80s to mid 90s. My interpretation of the VA decision is that you have to have dangerously high blood pressure to qualify and if you can treat it with medication you are not eligible for a disability rating. Later I enlisted in the USMC, working on F4J aircraft radar. That involved engines and large mobile air conditioning units. I noticed that when chipping paint dust was always in the air. When chipping around electric wires Morey dust which now I feel was asbestos. Is there any long term health concerns around asbestos contamination. I saw they spent 30 million to remove it from the ship before they sank it. I have already had a burn pit exposure review and was identified as having been exposed to burn pits. Our trash burn pit for our ship was just off the pier and we all had duty rotations to take trash to the burn pit and man the pit. I know I was further exposed traveling to different operating bases all over the region. Additionally, it has come to light that many of us who served in the Gulf area were also likely exposed to some level of Sarin gas (see <a target="_blank" href="https://www.utsouthwestern.edu/newsroom/articles/year-2022/sarin-nerve-gas-gulf-war-illness.html">https://www.utsouthwestern.edu/newsroom/articles/year-2022/sarin-nerve-gas-gulf-war-illness.html</a>).<br />I left the Navy in 2002 and for over the last 20 years have dealt with chronic joint pain issues, memory issues, sinus issues, sleep apnea, and now I am being diagnosed with &#39;low nerve response&#39; in my extremities. I was denied my original claim in 2003-2004, again in 2007, and again in 2019. Since then many of these have become presumptive conditions. My resubmitted claim was finally approved in 2021 after these new acts made these conditions presumptive but without any retroactive acknowledgement of the previous claims for the same conditions. We used a foam to extinguish fuel and electrical and aircraft and structural fires. This foam has been proven to cause cancer and law suits have been filed against the providers of this foam. They failed to explain the full ramifications of using the foam to the government.<br />In 2001 I was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer of the larynx and my voice box was removed. I&#39;ve been left with a stoma (trach) since. After surgery I had 31 daily radiation treatments and was told that the cancer was gone and would not spread again. I have had to take pain meds since because of the painful throbbing nerve that happened due to the surgery<br />It goes from my laryngectomy down my shoulder to my left arm. Also they removed half of my thyroid and I take meds for that.<br />It was only recently that the foam causes cancer. We used it to extinguish fire and for training purposes that were done once a month where diesel barrels were poured over a wrecked aircraft ( Huey) and set fire and we put it out. At that time we didn&#39;t even have the PPE protection that firefighters are issued today so we were at a much higher risk for getting wet with the foam . We were never told about the risks of using it. We poured 5 gallons cans into a special receptacle on the truck that would be mixed with the water in the truck. They told us it was animal blood and licorice because it stunk. We were responsible for fires off post if the local Fire department requested our help. Are these chemical and radiation exposures linked to diabetes, sleep apnea and kidney cancer? If so, what do I need to provide to the VA to get these medical issues linked to my service time? Delivering food/ammo/etc to Quang Tri (by Hamburger Hill), Chu Li, Tam My and made trips to DMZ (was around mechanical mules w/ backpack spraying Agent Orange) over area immediately south of Cua Viet (couldn&#39;t find record of Agent Orange near DMZ, but saw). This is cratered area after Carpet Bombing and Tet Offensive. Extracted SoG (and un-dog tagged non-uniformed out of DMZ October 1969) Troops from Cua Viet, DMZ under Cover Fire of USS New Jersey 16&quot; Guns. After Rockets landed near us as we ramped up. I know burn pits are just a necessary part of life when ground is such a muddy mess!<br /><br />I&#39;d applied for Disability Benefits 20 yrs ago but couldn&#39;t come up with any proof I&#39;d been In Country. As we were assigned to extract SoG troops out of Cambodia next and I had to stop logging co-ordinates in QM Log Book after rounding the cape into Cambodia. After extraction we went to Vũng Tàu to offload troops and literally swapped boats w/ USS Cado Parrish (don&#39;t know why, probably to cover that kind of extraction) out of Mekong Delta. After Rafted Up logs/books were boxed up, but didn&#39;t know where or how to find them for Disability Application. <br /><br />Next took LST-515 to the Philippines, turned it over to their Navy near Manila. Long story short; without log books or records I gave up on Disability Claim. At this point I think I&#39;m still lost on proving that I&#39;ve ever been to Vietnam (3.5 Combat Zone Tours of Duty) in Brown Water Gator Navy and off shore Navy. Except for a few ribbons, pictures, Gator Navy not seen as important vs Fast moving PT Boats that can stay out of the way of rockets easy and why I just don&#39;t ever talk about that time in my life!<br /><br />Can I qualify for PACT ACT w/o log books? I&#39;ve had borderline high Blood Pressure since mid 20 yo, Pulmonary Embolism, 5 bypass Heart Surgery, other complications. We did not have badges that recorded how many rads one was exposed to as the civilian world did.<br /><br />My wife was in cancer research at the same time, they had badges to record any potential contamination. It would also allow the Secretary of the VA to determine whether to establish presumptions of service connection based on these recommendations. Do you know who is leading this initiative? Also worked around a diazo machine for 3 years that used liquid ammonia and while stationed at 2 bases, lived very close to the flight line. I have had questions asked about living and working near a flight line. Are those health issues. Several years later I learned about Agent Orange and heart effects. Filed claim and was asproved for only 30 percent disability. I&#39;ve had 4 more stents but can&#39;t seem to be approved for any further increase. Would like to under stand why. This effectived my lovely hood from 2007 on. All of these issues effect oxidation to brain and on top of that PTSD.
