Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions. In looking at the PACT Act overview information on the VA website, I can see all the now-presumptive cancers and illnesses listed which is very helpful. Is there a list of these conditions that are most common per theater of war? I went through basic infantry training at Camp LeJuene, NC in September 1966. I also served in Vietnam and may have come in contact with Agent Orange. I get care from the West Have VA in Connecticut. Is there something more I should be doing beyond my yearly exams at the VA?

I served as an active duty Marine from 1987 to 1991 most of my time serving three tours on Okinawa at MCAS Futenma as a 1391, Bulk Fuel.

A part of our duties were to assist with crash Fire Rescue on a monthly basis in burning contaminated fuel at a designated burn pit just outside the fuel Farm. Aside from the Environmental hazards of burning JP 5,and JP8, it has been disclosed that the air station has discovered buried barrels of Agent Orange from Vietnam at the exact location of where to burn pit was.

To put it in simple terms, aside from burning JP fuels and anything else flammable and walking into the fire in the Silverman suits, we're also walking into the area where agent orange was.
I made you issue I'm having is I am not able to register as having been in a hazardous environment, or exposed to a burn pit. Please give me some direction because I have no idea how I do not meet the elements of having been exposed to a burn pit when that's exactly what part of my duty was.

I conducted many open pit burns in order to dispose of explosives and ordnance in my 20 year EOD career. If I get any of these presumptive conditions will I be covered?

I was not exposed to a burn pit, but like Camp Lejuene, I was stationed at Aberdeen Proving Grounds to include the Edgewood Arsenal from 1985-87. I have contracted kidney cancer twice 1998 (while on active duty) & 2016, as well as IDDM Type I; does the new law affect me or others in any way? I ask because my first sergeant who was assigned at the same time as me and even longer (20 years or so) contracted kidney cancer twice and died within the last year due to the disease. I am not worried so much about me because I am already have a significant disability rating, but I would like to contact his spouse if there was something availble to her. P.S. We used to joke about the disease, since he also knew an Army Colonel who died of kidney cancer too before he passed.

We operated a burn pit for Operation Just Cause for 3 weeks. It was located on Fort Kobe between Fort Kilby and Kobe Beach. I was exposed to toxic burning materials 12 hours a day hauling trash to that burn pit. Lieutenant colonel Bridges was the commanding officer of our unit, civil engineering. He now works as an SES for Air Force Environmental engineering.

The PACT Act notes that for Post 9/11 Iraq Vets that “Head Cancers of any type” are considered to be Service Connected by the VA. Does that include Basal Cell Carcinomas?

I was exposed to burn pits while serving in VietNam. Every detachment I was with burned human waste, tires, and other materials. Usually the burn pit was located by the latrines; our bunkers were located to the front of the latrines. We were subject to the smoke from the waste all the time. I suffer from acute sinusitis; is this covered by PACT or are VietNam vets excluded?

I spent time in Iraq in several places listed on the registry. I filled the registry out years and years ago. I suffer from asthma, ocular headaches, sinusitis, and several other presumptive symptoms listed of burn pit exposures. Why would the VA tell me my issues have nothing to do with my time in OIF3? They make me feel absolutely defeated when everything I denied, even with evidence.

My tour in Vietnam 1968-69 was spent from An Khe to Pleiku and in the Central Highlands jungles...Agent Orange was used profusely in those areas...do I have to prove I was actually sprayed with Agent Orange in order to file a claim for hypertension???

I lived next to a burn pit at Camp Bucca...the stench was horrible...I have breathing issues since then and participated in the STAMPEDE trial at Fort Sam...any results from this trial? Also, could my wacky blood pressure be a result of breathing in that horrid air?

My quarters in Mossul (FOB Freedom) where less than 50 meters from me and during the period of March to August 2005 we had to frequently walk through the smoke of the burn pit. Since then, I can not smell or taste unless the smell is extremally strong and I use a lot of spices and hot sauces when cooking and eating.

Hi
I have been getting rashes all over my body. It started in 2004 four months after I came home from Iraq. Then back to Iraq in 2007 have been going to the VA for the rashes and they can’t come up with no answers. I think it’s from all the burn pits, that I have burned or have been around them.

Why is it last year when I claimed conditions burn pit related it was dismissed and now I am asked to provide “new” evidence in order to file a paper copy supplemental claim form. It’s great this was passed but you made it harder to file as well as placed the burden of evidence on us even though it is all there in our records. Seems like we really just played lip service to all this.

During my 3 years in the AF in 1977-80 in Germany, we used gallons of Trichloroethylene on rags and towels to clean missiles and missile parts. We worked in an enclosed solid concrete building with no ventilation, gloves, or respiratory protection, and sometimes left work so what dizzy. I now have a history of urinary and prostrate infections and starting to have some digestion issues. What are the long term effects of Trichloroethylene exposure?

I retired Oct. 1, 2005, and had an oopherectomy in Jan 2007 because cysts were found on my ovaries. I’m a breast cancer survivor (dx 2004) and the cysts were a cancer concern due to my BC diagnosis. I was denied disability benefits for the oopherectomy. I was told if I had gotten cancer I would have gotten benefits. I had several abnormal pap smears while on active duty after serving in Desert Shield and Storm. I didn’t appeal the denial. But with the passage of PACT, I’m wondering if I can refile. I’m losing sleep over this. If I can refile, I will need to know what steps to take. Thank you for taking questions and I will do everything in my power to join the Sept. 8 discussion.

I served in the U.S. Air Force as a Fire Protection Specialist (Firefighter) from 1982-1986. I was stationed at Chanute AFB, IL,; Grand Forks AFB, ND; Shemya AFB, AK (considered Overseas Short Tour); and Andrews AFB, MD.

Given the dates of service and limitations of the Service Dates and Locales, I am an “Invisible Veteran” Excluded from eligibility for benefits under PACT ACT even though I was continually exposed to Firefighting Foam (Aqueous Firm Forming Foam)(AFFF). AFFF contains PFAS/PFOS, and other toxic chemicals proven to cause health problems, yet was not included in the PACT ACT. Interesting enough, Military Firefighters regularily used Burn Pits for required proficiency training for fighting aircraft and fuel fires with no protective breathing apparatus both CONUS and OCONUS and yet were again excluded from the PACT ACT. Another case of the “Invisible Veteran” that is refused to be recognized because we served during a supposed “Peacetime.”

I was stationed in Fort Ord, CA during basic. It is well documented that Ft.Ord's groundwater was contaminated...even before I was stationed there for Basic Combat Training in the 70's. Does the Pact Act only cover select veterans that were at Camp LeJeune? I have heart disease, congestive heart failure, COPD, diabetes, and high blood pressure. I drank that water at Ord, everybody did...

Thanks for your time, My question is I am Service Connected for Emphysema Stage 2 from Gulf War ODS/S but not my Obstructive Sleep Apnea which I have been on BiPap since 2016. Will this help my claim which was denied and my CardioVascular Disease that was also denied? (Bipap is on recall list and still waiting for 2 years now for a replacement. I have had P.E. in lungs since 2021 and now on Blood Thinner)

I created burn pits and maintained them ,while operating a bulldozer.The burn pits contained rubber,construction materials,diesel fuel,missile containers, wiring insulation,and whatever else the other units could come up with( unknown substances).This was in Germany. I now have bladder cancer,pancreatic cancer,copd,sinusitus and rhiniitus .The locations that are covered under the PACT ACT do not include my duty station,nor the encompassing dates.Your suggestions are appreciated.

Are burn pit claims only associated with the Gulf War? This was a common practice during the early 80s. We used diesel to kill weeds and in our stoves in the field, Finally, we burned trash and etc

So if I had a respiratory cancer (carcinoid tumor) and served in country on list of presumptive locations, I should receive a compensation rating correct? I’m just curious, since they have me scheduled later next week for a C&P exam. I figured they could see all my medical records showing the cancers and make a decision thing at way. Is it required to see someone? Really don’t mind, but I gave them all the evidence the VA needed.

What are the long term health effects for ground combat troops exposed to Burning Depleted Uranium? During the Persian Gulf War we had to clear tanks, bunkers and soft vehicles disabled by coalition aircraft and armor units using 20mm DU Tipped ammunition. Most of the vehicles and structures were still on fire or smoldering. Many members of my unit, Bravo Co. 2/505, 82 Airborne have since died from brain cancers or rare leukemias. 8 out of 120 man rifle company are now deceased from these illnesses. I have been diagnosed with Asthma, Migraine and Ice Pick Headaches along with brain lesions, non-diabetic Neuropathy, rashes that come and go, and Shingles without ever having Chicken Pox. Please provide any information on this for the many service members suffering from similar ailments.

I have had a chronic cough since about two and a half years after coming back fro Persian Gulf and Desert Storm/Shield. Plus while over in Saudi Arabia was also real close to the oil rig fires. But back at camp had to burn the crappers. I was turned down for the cough. I don't take anything or go to a civilian doctor for this. But now this has come about. So my question is will there be compensation for any of these.

Greetings VA team, thanks for taking the time to review our concerns. I have a question about gulf war veterans presumptIve and burn pit presumptive.

1. Gulf war veterans/presumptive - if a diagnosis was provided in service for fatigue I.e ICD code 780.79, why isn’t the VA recognizing that diagnosis as a service connected disability?

2. With regards to skin conditions/symptoms, is seborrheic keratosis/dermatitis a skin symptom that falls under the gulf war veteran presumptive list dated September 2021 for signs for symptoms of undiagnosed illness?

3. Army records reflect joint knee pain and the gulf war list for presumptive conditions reflects joint pains as a presumptive condition, yet the Va denied the claim for service connection where the Army provided a diagnosis/ICD code 719.46. Please provide why the VA VARs would deny that when Army medical records/diagnosis was provided.

4. Burn pit presumptive- with regard to breathing issues or COPD, would chronic airway disease SCT 13645005 be considered a presumptive for burn pits? Also, ARMY records also has diagnosis for bronchspasm with ICD code 519.11, as well as chest pains, chest tightness and dyspnea.

How does this ACT help those like me?
100% PNT accepted diagnosis of constrictive Bronchilosis with interstitial lung disease from exposure to Dioxin (lung biopsy) while deployed to Afghanistan.
As many of the leading lung specialists report those whom have this condition will not meet the high standards of PFTs in order to receive compensation. I’m only getting compensation for medication only. Even tho VA and civilian specialists state condition is terminal.
Are there going to be changes to the compensation table ?
Are there going to be a standard compensation for diagnosed condition ?

Is there or will there be any compensation for survivors of those who were suffering from consequences of the burn pits and have passed away while waiting to get some help in that direction? I am the mother of a veteran who suffered severely with consequences of working in and not around or just exposed to, the burn pits. He we know was around a tank that was filled with depleted uranium, I am not sure of the toxins that he was exposed to while working in the burn pit in Balad Iraq At camp Anaconda. He was the one that set up an incinerator ocean program that of course Halliburton took credit for. But from the time he came home to me in 2010 until he passed in 2019 and with many complaints to his providers at the VA that were noted but ignored, I watched him suffer the tortures of hell with what we think was the nerve endings in his body being eaten away by whatever he was exposed to. Nothing they gave him for pain worked he was taking the maximum amount of gabapentin and then had to other medications added to that but still no relief I’ve spent I know 24 seven trying to help and care for him the times were horrendous. In October 2019 I walked in and found that he had passed my heart has been broken ever cents and as it turns out because I am a mother and not a spouse or a child there are no benefits for me to be had through the VA system. Because of my age when he passed I could not go back to work and also my health. And I am trying desperately to survive on my Social Security which is just a little over 1000 a month and having to take care of a mortgage that we took out on the house to make corrections in order for it to be safe for him to get around in when he came home we also had to buy a car because the closest VA to us was over 100 miles away and sometimes his appointments were two and three times a week. Besides the normal monthly expenses that one would have in owning a home and trying to live on the minimal amount that I am getting it has been very hard. It is my plea that you consider in this pack that the caregivers of those that have passed on and are left with these types of circumstances. I have had to give up my home that I lived in for over 45 years raised my children in and the memories that I had to leave there have been heartbreaking I cannot help but feel that there should be something there for us as survivors in these circumstances.

I served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969 and was exposed to Agent Orange while stationed in Da Nang. I have been granted service-connection for Prostate Cancer (and residuals). I received radiation therapy January 2017 and have been diagnosed with Polynueropathy from several doctors treating me. I have requested that Neuropathy be added to my service-connected authorization but have been denied. The Pact Act is allowing the exposure to toxins to those veterans BUT have not included Vietnam Era veterans. WHY???

I served in Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Kuwait during the Persian Gulf War and was exposed to smoke from oil fires and burn pits. I developed lipomas upon returning home and since have been diagnosed with Adiposis Dolorosa (Dercum's Disease). I have had several dozens of painful tumors excised and have nearly a hundred more on my torso, upper thighs and buttocks, and arms. This is a rare and sometimes fatal disease and I have no family history. I was hopeful when the PACT Act passed, but have been told that my condition is "not listed as presumptive", so I should file a claim. Is the PACT Act limited to certain conditions related to toxic exposure?

I was diagnosed with essential tremors when I was in my late twenties, I served aboard CV60 in the Tonkin gulf 72-73 at 22. I filed for a disability under the Blue Water Navy act under Parkinsonian symptoms, I supplied the ship's movement logs for when I was deployed, and Va knows I was taking medication for my tremors. They denied my claim saying they conceded that I had Agent Orange exposure but that was not the cause. I also had a stroke and an aneurysm. They denied that too, my neurologist said he did not think the dissecting carotid aneurysm was the cause of my stroke. I was under the impression that if you had those conditions it was presumptive of agent orange. Should I reapply through the pact act and should I retain a lawyer to assist with the claim? My time for a review ran out due to the fact that they notified me that my claim was in review but I found out they were only reviewing my claim for diabetes, later after the time period ran out.

I deployed to Egypt for a training excersice during Brighstar right after September 11 2001. During my duty I was tasked with burning several tons of bottle water which they said had been contaminated. We were provided jet fuel to burn the bottle water. I never thought about it but I started to suffer from allergies. I was told they were seasonal allergies then in 2011 I was diagnosed by an outside doctor with asthma. I now suffer from daily allergies, and short term memory problems, sleep apnea, sinusitis, daily headaches, tingling and numbness on 3 fingers on left hand and the lists is long. I don't appear on any database as being deployed I was told. Do I still qualify for burn pit or gulf syndrome benefits? I am very concerned since my health since to be deteriorating and I just turned 50.

After being drafted during Vietnam I joined Air Force. I worked on Titan II Missiles and would sit over a bucket of Methyl Ethel Key-tone cleaning parts with an acid brush and breathing those fumes. VA has denied my claim for cancer over the past year and half. I resubmitted a supplemental claim for PACT act. Now, once claims for pact act reviewed and approved. The effective date will be Aug 10th 2022. For what I understand is the VA gives you a 100% disability rating when the cancer is active and 6 months after. I miss out on that rating due too the effective date? Also when can I start putting in for all the secondary conditions from my cancer? Thank you

Has anyone considered Ft McClellan, AL, where we were supplied with drinking water with toxic PCBs from Monsanto (as was the entire town of Anniston). Home of the Army Chem School - and where ranges were defoliated with Agent Orange in 1974-76? Women's Army Corps, Chem Corps and MPs are not important enough because we don't have a Congressperson to fight for us. Ft Mac was closed 20 years ago primarily for environment hazards. Now FEMA is going in to study about chemical warfare effects.... Hmmmm....interesting. But it is 40 - 50 years later, and no one cares about the effects these things have had on us. I was there for 4 years - but it wasn't wartime. Swept under the rug.

I'm a Navy Veteran. I served from 1973 through 1983. I worked for DLA from 1985 through 2019. While working for DLA, I deployed 10 times to Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan and was exposed to multiple burn pits while deployed. Each deployment was at least 6 months. I'm a non-smoker and over the last two years, during annual check-ups, I now have two 5MM spots on my lungs. My Doctor ensures that I get an Xray every six months, so that she can monitor if there is any growth. If there is a chance that I have cancer, will the PACT Act provide coverage for DOD civilians that were exposed to burn pits?

Hello, I have a question about oil fields. I was stationed in the middle of multiple oil fields that burned 24/7. There was always a veil of smoke on the air at all times of the day. It was extremely visible in the mornings during sunrise. Basically it was a purple/blackish mist that hung in and over the base at all times. During my deployment, I saw the medics numerous times for a constant respiratory infection and prolonged cough. They would prescribe multiple drugs to lessen the symptoms. I still deal with respiratory issues off and on till this day. How does the PACT act impact my situation?

my husband was in guam during vietnam war. he was there from 1972 to 1973. he was exposed to agent orange. he has ever since had issues with his health. one was diabetes when he was younger. no one knew what his problem was. he was falling asleep and so they said he had that sleeping disease which he didnt. also he had ED WHICH he did have but couldnt figure out why. then he had times when he looked like he was going to pass out and he would run to get something to eat. he felt better afterwards. it wasnt until much later after he got out of the airforce that we discovered he had type 2 diabetes. i dont understand why my husband was treated for so many crazy things when all along it was his exposure to agent orange that was causing this. he spoke to someone recently who told him that guam wasnt considered a source of agent orange. previous to my husband being in the airforce, he couldnt go into the service during veitnam because he was sole surviving son so instead he joined the merchant marines. he had no idea he would be on a ship delivering agent orange to vietnam for the army.. he said he swam in the stuff because it leaked everywhere. being as young as he was he was the one who swabbed the deck. my husband has tried many times for consideration but refused. what can you do about this. what can he do now for consideration. he has 60% from other dissabilities. also, my husband stayed in the airforce for 23yrs. his early time in service he was working with the B-52's fire control. then later after the war he switched to working in hospitals fixing medical equipment. while working with B-52's he was also exposed to a solvent that he used to clean the guns of the b-52's. please can you advise us. thank you wife, vickie cloud.

I was previously denied compensation for lymphoma due to lack of service connection.

Now that lymphoma is one of the presumptive conditions covered under the PACT Act, I am resubmitting my claim.

I am told I should use VA Form 20-0995, Decision Review Request: Supplemental Claim. This form doesn’t seem well suited for a supplemental claim related to the PACT Act as I am not providing new and relevant information about my diagnosis, treatment, or outcome. Rather, what has changed is the passage of the PACT Act.

My question is, what is the VA looking for as supplemental information? Do they want a statement noting the claim is being submitted pursuant to the PACT Act or are they looking for something else?

If it is the statement, I would recommend a change to the form (or a new form) adding a check box noting this justification. That would seem to be all that should be necessary.

I got medically separated after having a softball-sized mass removed which they say they couldn't tie it to my deployment to Afghanistan, but I'm pretty certain that's where it came from as I had complications after I returned stateside. My issues did get looked over and rated in the VA as service connected since I was Active Duty. Would the PACT Act be able to tie my issue to my deployment? I think the issue not being tied to my deployment was more on the Air Force side and not VA, would the PACT Act help change that decision?

I am assuming the VA will not consider me in this because I was not on Active duty in uniform when I served but I was a Federal Civilian voluntary deployee as well a veteran to these areas and yes we deployed had to wear the same or a similar uniform as the Active duty folks and exposed to the same toxins, in the service to our country. I guess we are left holding the bag?

I was diagnosed by the VA for prostate cancer in October 2019. I submitted a claim for prostate cancer that same month. I was stationed PCS at Andersen AFB, Guam, and TDY at U-Tapao AFB, Thailand for 18 months, December 1967 - June 1969. My claim was denied by the VA in April 2022. I submitted a supplementary claim because of passage of the PACT Act in August 2022 that now includes Guam and Thailand as areas for presumptive exposure to Agent Orange and resulting prostate cancer. My question is: Will my prostate cancer supplementary claim for compensation result in compensation going back to the date of my original claim of October 2019?

What is the status of consideration for burn-pit exposure for Vietnam Veterans?
It appears there is little or no discussion, or connections to environmental exposures experienced in Vietnam aside from Agent Orange. Common sense tells me the numerous Vietnam era burn pits contained a greater number of hazardous chemicals or materials compared to those subsequently experienced years later in South-West Asia operations. Consider the simple fact that many substances were no longer in use or had been banned due to emerging environmental concerns learned during the decades separating the conflicts. One example, DDT was banned in the early 1970's following its widespread use in Vietnam. DDT and numerous other chemicals and materials were routinely thrown into burn pits throughout Vietnam.

Hello! Very fast question. I did four OEF and four OIF tours from 2003 to 2010. I am also a Desert shield / desert storm Air Force veteran with over 24 years of service. I retired in 2011 and since received a disability rating from the military. I was not diagnosed with acid reflux since 2008 but it always went away for years at a time. Since 2020 I've gotten treatment for acid reflux, and I've been in and out of the VA since. while in the navy (specifically boot camp in San Diego 1976) one of our duties was to stand watch over some demolition. It was discovered that asbestos was in the building being demolished/gutted. I was in Vietnam 1968-69. During my first few months there I was low man on the totem pole so I was given S**t Detail. Not hard to learn, just pull the barrel parts from the back of the latrine, add diesel fuel, then stir until sufficiently combined. Light it up and let it burn. Had to be monitored in case it ran out of fuel or who knows what else. Once the material is burned away the barrels are reinstalled into the back of the latrine. Repeat as necessary.

I was also exposed to Agent Orange while in the field. When we moved through the deforested areas I didn't really know how it happened but we just when right through it. Didn't seem bad at the time.

Back in 2013 my Primary care was wondering where all my blood was going so she finally sent me to a Hematologist who in turn referred me for a Bone Marrow Aspiration and Biopsy. Reason for treatment: diagnosis Pancytopenia (deficiency of all three cellular components of the blood—Red cells, White cells and Platelets). They discovered a complex rearrangement of chromosomes 12, 14 and 17. Interpretation: probable MDS related clone detection (Myelodysplasia Syndrome—pre leukemia is how it was explained by the Hemotologist).

I had two questions: What caused it and how do we fix it? There was no definitive answer to either question. However, it was suggested by several health care professionals that the cause was agent orange. Bottom line: Cannot file a claim because there is no ailment noted in the official record or something to that effect. They tell me I am already registered on the Agent Orange database. I do not see that anywhere in my records.

I am already rated at 100% Totally and Permanently Disabled due to Combat PTSD. Based on this, what can pursuing this actually do for me?

When I arrived on Williams AFB, AZ in December 1979 out of tech school for Environmental Health/Bioenvironmental Engineering they were just beginning to collect samples for testing from 100s of electrical transformers that had been removed from service but kept on base to determine their composition of polychlorinated biphenyls (pcbs). From that December of 1979 through the fall of 1980, I was personally involved in the testing of the majority of those transformers. Even though we wore protected gear (gloves and chemical mask) we were still directly affected by the vapors from these transformers in the Arizona heat. I often experienced some dizziness and tingling in my fingers and hands on certain days after gathering samples.

As a Bioenvironmental Engineering Specialist, I had to enter many environments on the AFB base that contained hazardous chemicals which included the Paint Shop (trichloroethylene, methylene, thinners, and airborne paint droplets), sampling of vapors from JP4 to those tasked with cleaning Jet Fuel Cells, chemicals used at Sheet Metal, and even potential exposure to asbestos as certain buildings on base that contained it were being torn down. I also was exposed to hazardous noise from measuring the noise levels in Jet Engine Test Cells and Sheet Metal where wearing both earplugs and muffs were not sufficient to keep exposure below hazardous levels. I was also tasked with daily calibration of the offices Geiger counter.

Today, I have chronic vertigo, kidney problems, and heart failure.

Was stationed at LSA ANACONDA, OIF 04-05, inside a compound that was in direct path of the smoke from the burn pit, and probably only about 250 yards away from it, there on base, so basically we breathed that smoke every day while deployed there. Came home with an unusual rash and breathing issues. When I tried to file a claim and brought the issue to the attention of my primary VA doctor, they wrote it off as allergies (never had before), and that as I was getting older, I could expect these types of physical changes. Yet, everyone of us that was assigned to that compound, had similar, if not worse issues. I lost a good friend, a young man, who after 9 and a half years of battling with the VA, finally won his case regarding burn pit exposure, only to pass away at the 10 year mark at a young age of 30. So tell me again how it is just allergies and old age that has caused my breathing and sinus issues!!!!

I have done everything registering for Burn Pits in Saudi Arabia but the VA has rated my compensation claims at 0% even those these related conditions have plagued me for years, (Headaches, Breathing Difficulties, Thyroid Disease). While serving onboard my ship in the Persian Gulf we followed an aircraft carrier for 3 months. We (in the engine room) were exposed to aircraft exhaust constantly during that period of time. We were constantly sick, fatigued and miserable. We didn't have any filtration whatsoever, it was all negative pressure forced induction air from the outside. Other Spruance Class Destroyer sailors can affirm this. The air in these engineering spaces were foggy with fumes, we couldn't avoid it due to our jobs. Now I've been diagnosed with COPD and other cardiovascular problems.
Would I be covered under this new law/act? Would it now be a presumptive condition?

I do not know where to begin. I filed for disability, on the advice of the person at the VA, but was rejected twice. The second rejection stated that my problems were diagnosed and therefore not presumptive. I had apnea, and to make a long story short, I had serious sinus surgery in 2010. Why is basal cell carcinoma not included as presumptive disease related to herbicide exposure in Vietnam? We used not only Agent Orange, but also Agent Blue, which contains a high percentage of arsenic. Arsenic is one of the contaminants that causes basal cell carcinoma. I, like many Vietnam veterans suffer from this disease and I know I was exposed to Agent Blue. Basal cell carcinoma should be added to the list of presumptive diseases caused by herbicide exposure in Vietnam.

I served from 1971-1974 in Nuremberg Germany for 30 months. I entered a special weapons program and became the section chief building nuclear weapons. We used no gloves or geiger bases and was exposed to half strength uranium and then later to plutonium. After leaving the Army, I developed a skin rash and later diagnosed with Schambergs and Grovers disease. Terrible and painful skin condition that is also found in x-ray technicians around the world. Retired Army Engineer here. What types of tests will be done to determine exposures? When will those tests be scheduled? How will exposures to chemical weapons be tested? Are we simply lab rats for grants spread around the country? Based on hair sample testing by my civilian PCP, I have high levels of lead, aluminum, titanium, and uranium - indicative of Iraq and Grafenwoehr Germany. I was in The Sandbox for 39 months but the local VA facility won't do a CT because I am a non-smoker? Throw in two years at Fort McClellan, AL, including a year in a documented asbestos contaminated building and base line physicals done for my entire team (half of who are already dead in their 50s), the VA claims I'm fine and don't need a CT. Why are CT scans only being done on Veterans who are smokers?

Will it include those of us who were stationed in Europe during Chernobyl? With the winds and weather radioactive particles, which were 400 times more radioactive than the Atom bomb, were in the air while I was stationed in Scotland. Jacqueline- Will the Pact Act remove the requirement to be diagnosed for a presumptive illness within 10 years of leaving the service? I was diagnosed with Asthma(10 years/10 months after retirement) and was denied for that reason. I also submitted evidence of multiple breathing issues that occurred prior the 10 year period. COVID also prevented many in-person appointments during this time frame which slowed diagnosis. I have been told my my Congressional Rep (Florida's 3rd District) that the implementation of the Pact Act will take some time to write the CFR and Title 38. How long do you believe this will take and what should veterans do who need the help now? I don't believe that veterans should have to resubmit a new claim for compensation. These denied claims should be automatically fixed and back paid to date of initial claim. Thanks!

I was in POL in the Air Force for 11 years. I was doused in jet fuel a few times (documented) had it in my eyes, lungs and stomach. I have chronic sinus problems that I believe are related. Would this bill possibly help me?

I was directly exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam. I have had 3 cancers (Parathyroid, Breast and now am recovering from colon cancer). I had a stroke and mild heart attack. I currently have a 50% PTSD disability and have applied and appealed for benefits regarding Agent Orange but have been denied will the Pact Act help with getting Agent Orange disability benefits?

I've spoke to several vet help agencies and they seem to want you to do the legwork and they get a percentage upon approval. I am a veteran of (desert storm). My father Earnest Dean Cassidy was also a Marine Vietnam Veteran who served active duty and did at least four tours in Vietnam as a grunt gunnery sergeant. It is said that they/he was exposed to agent orange. I have been diagnosed with some rare autoimmune diseases and it is questioned whether they are a direct correlation to what he was exposed to during his active-duty enlistment. Unfortunately, my parents were both tragically killed simultaneously by a semi (NOT their fault) on Memorial Day, May 26th, 1991. Their tragic accident ruined my military career in the Navy, and I still suffer with PTSD. These rare autoimmune diseases came out of nowhere and NOBODY in my entire family has them and it has been said that my father's exposure to agent orange could have been passed on through his DNA. I most humbly request that someone reach out to me to check into connecting them to my father's exposure while he was an active-duty Marine grunt on the front lines in Vietnam. Thank you for your time and consideration herein.

I worked as a fuels specialist in the Airforce and was repeatedly exposed to Jp4 jet fuel. I have had to have a kidney and liver transplant and heave just learned the repeated exposure to jet fuel causes liver damage. Is there any help for people in my situation?

As an infantry officer serving in Viet Nam in 1967, I was constantly exposed to burn pits. In fact, during the last 6 months of my tour, I was the company commander responsible for the burn pits used by the reinforced battalion I served in and had to inspect the troops and process involved at those burn pits. It is clear that to me and family members that in the years since, I have a severe case of rhinitis and sinus inflammations. I have been tested for allergies twice and do not have any serious allergic conditions. Yet, the VA says that I can not make a claim when it is "presumed" those exposed to burn pits for the very same medical conditions in Iraq and Afghanistan can. What is different about the burn pits in Viet Nam? It is thoroughly disheartening to be treated this way the VA and government officials.

my husband was in the marine corps in Vietnam and had worked in the burn pits, he had several cancers prostate, liver, bone, diabetes and most recently Parkinson's. Sadly, he passed away in July 2022 from them. I'd rather have him back but sadly can't is there any way the spouse can receive benefits? The VA has closed me from contacting the va after he had passed is there someone or anyone that i can talk to about this

In Nov. 2007 when getting to depart Balad Air Base I filled a form for departure where it asked about medical issues during my year long deployement. I answered my concern about continuous headaches while stationed at Balad Air Base at the bottom of the form in a write in box. This i believe was something not out there yet about the burn pits. once home while at the wounded warrior at Ft. Riley (For other conditions) I mention it again (headaches still ongoing). I was denied and dismissed as ENT said nothing wrong with me. Now years later the headaches are never ending and earlier this year I have developed a coordination problem standing and walking, getting seems everyday now. Do you know what i can do and what was that exit form i complete with my whole unit required to do so.

My dad, a Vietnam Veteran passed away last year. In the mid 90s, the VA diagnosed him with hypertension and provided medication. He always checked to see if the VA added hypertension to the list of presumptive illnesses. Now that it has, thanks to the PACT ACT, will it be retroactive? My mom, who is his beneficiary, is already receiving Dependency and Indemnity Compensation. My question is as follows: should she file a claim to try to see if she can get any accrued benefits that my dad should have been getting? Thank you.

As a 1391 I was exposed (waded in, touched, breathed, to diesel, JP-4, JP-5, fumes there of, Diesel exhaust from the pumps, jet and helicopter exhaust. What are my expected long term concerns?

In the Persian gulf I was exposed to Malathion, l was injected with two of the three Anthrax vaccinations, and I took at least a half-dozen nerve agent pills. What are my long term risks and concerns?

I was deployed to Haiti during the Earthquake response. We were billeted on the embassy grounds. From 0700 to sundown the locals burned everything - tires, Human Remains, storm debris. Would Haiti be considered a burn pit?
Also, is there any benefit to filing for burn pit if already 100% P&T?

Was an Air Force Firefighter from 79-83. Worked with AFFF foam and ALL our training fires were "Burn Pits" where he burned JP4 jet fuel... One of my bases is / was an EPA superfund cleanup site. I have liver cancer. Would I be covered ?

I need help finding a VA oncologist who is familiar with aplastic anemia. I was deployed in Jordan in 2002. It is a blood disorder that nearly took my life. Does anyone know any doctor who specializes in blood work to help me file. I have filed but got rejected and I have appealed. I am at the final stage which I think a judge decides. Now with the PACT Act passed, I need help to appeal and make my case solid. Any suggestions or help!

101 Airborne Div. NCO School E-5 Sgt. Infantry Div. Entire Tour in field. Worked in areas many times completely defoliated. Drank river water all the time in defoliated areas. Every 4 days at resupply we burned our trash. (Burn Pits). If we were on a "Fire Base" for a few days we burned trash and human feces. At least over the last 15 to 20 I have turned in many claims to the VA. All Claims denied. How do I request that my claims be re-evaluated. I was discharged at FT Lewis, WA in May 1971. Why were veterans exposed to radiation at the Hydrogem bomb test at Enewitok not inluded, My father was aboard the USS Arikara and they picked up radio active material at the site after the test. He has had multiple bouts of cancer Melenoma over the years and denied benfits every time he applied. Now he's almost 90 yrs. old and has only recieved 50 % disability for ptsd and hearing loss.

In reviewing some details about the recently passed PACT Act and cancers that are now presumptive based on certain assignments and exposures I was somewhat surprised to see that the list does not include bladder cancer.

I am a Persian Gulf war veteran and am enrolled in the Airborne Hazards and Burn Pits registry. While in Kuwait, I spent 6 months working daily in the oil fields where hundreds of crude oil wells were burning. On December 7, 2021 I underwent surgery that confirmed I now have bladder cancer.

Based on some studies I reviewed, there are three known causes of bladder cancer, which are smoking (I have never smoked); arsenic poisoning (which has not happened to me as far as I know); and occupational exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The burning of fossil fuels, to include crude oil, is a primary source of PAHs. While one cannot conclude that my exposure to crude oil fires in Kuwait caused my cancer, it seems likely it was at least a contributing factor.

Going forward, I hope oil well fire exposure will be considered as part of ongoing efforts to identify additional presumptive conditions such as bladder cancer that may eventually impact Gulf War veterans.

I stood watch outside and was exposed to this environmental exposure during the 1st Gulf War, OIF, OEF and Desert Storm and Desert Shield. I developed Prostate cancer at 52 (12 years after I left the service). The VA has historically taken the stance that time between my time in the service and the diagnosis of any disease removes the correlation between the disease and its connection with service. How is traversing the Persian Gulf on a ship (through burning oil platform smoke) viewed with regards to the PACT Act?

I'm specifically wanting to know about Neurological conditions and exposure to chemicals. I was deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kuwait to name a few, was never provided mask or protection and was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis beyond the 7 year assumed service connection window. Even though I had symptoms from as early as 2 years after the military, it wasn't service connected due to it not qualifying as "MORE likely than not" due to my service" This was before the burn pit initiative and legislation. Where does this connection fit in to the "more likely than not" or "assumed" 7 year requirements for Neuro disorders? Luckily I am rated with unemployability with another condition at 100% -- but I still want MS service connected because I believe it is and evidence of my brain lesions were very old (old enough to be within 7 year window)

I am a 1969 Viet Nam, Central Highlands Veteran with several documented treated episodes of breathing difficulties over the last several years, diagnosed as Restrictive Airway disease. Is this condition included in the list of "presumed" Agent Orange? My in-country transportation included multiple trips on a C-123.
I'm being asked for, as a consequence of a VA Disability Claim, a physician's opinion that this is service connected, and further, this research that Dioxins could be a causal issue.
I have moved from Denver to Phoenix and no longer have access to the doctor(s) who treated this condition, and am waiting until November 29 for a new Primary Care Physician: However, the VA is giving me only until September 9, 2022 to submit this information (I cannot comply, obviously).
So again, is Restrictive Airway Disease a "presumptive" condition of exposure to Agent Orange?

I was exposed to burn pits while actively serving in Somalia. I tried to register in the Burn Pit registry, but keep having issues at the final stage. I suffered hair loss after leaving Somalia while in Korea. I left the military in 1998. Am I eligible to register in the burn pit registry? Also, is Alopecia considered a legitimate reason to file as a disability or damage suffered from my service?

I was stationed on a 1960's coast guard cutter that was insulated and contained a lot of asbestos. As a damage controlman, I used to take asbestos rolls and insulate pipes and valves after repairs. Later in life I developed bladder cancer and the VA removed my bladder and prostate. Am I eligible for VA disability and compensation for this?

I was deployed to Somalia and tried to sign up for the burn pit. It showed it as being in the Gulf of Arden so I signed up and was denied. With the Pact Act it shows up as Somalia. Am I able to sign up for either? Do I qualify to sign up?

To FN Shanna Smith-Jackson, I was exposed to 1-1-1 trichloroethylene on a daily basis for 2 1/2 years on the flight line at Charleston Air Force Base in South Carolina. During training I was taught to call the parts truck “Alpha 5” to my aircraft to drop off a can of 1-1-1 in an olive drab spray can. We all used it to wash our hands. As an aircraft mechanic on the flight line we had no way to wash our hands. Using the lavatory on the plane was strictly forbidden. So later I find out it is highly dangerous and enters your blood stream through your skin. What do I have to do to see if it has harmed me. Right now I am losing weight and the VA has no explanation. I have gone from 156 lbs to 132 body fat 15% to 7.2 % It’s dangerous to get below 6 %. I eat a lot of food and is seems to go right through me way too fast. I am afraid my digestive system is failing. 65 years old and just retired. Less activity and still losing. For the remainder of my active duty of 4years I was in the maintenance dock where we had real wash rooms. I served in the 437th Military Airlift Wing as a mechanic.

I am overwhelmed. Vietnam 70-71. Entire tour of duty in field as a 11B. I did it all and saw it all. (101st Air Borne Division) Agent Orange etc. We burned trash etc (Burn Pits). Over 25 years I have submitted claims to the VA. Everything turned down. I have spent many hours on submitting claims and driving to appointments. SHOULD I HIRE A LAW FIRM TO HELP ME DEAL WITH THE VA BUREAUCRACY?
