Lately, recruitment standards have been very strict.

Are you trying to go Active or Reserves? Under the current USAREC Business Rules for Prior Service. If you are want Active Duty, if you are not a cryptolinguist (Army MOS 35P....not sure what the USMC equivellant is) and not Airborne qualified, then your only option would be to enlist under the SF enlistment option....unless you have a DLPT score on a language they are accepting. There has been a bit of debate whether or not someone with a medical waiver can enlist under this option.

If you want the Reserves, there are tons of unit within a reasonable commute of DC, and the Reserves are not subject to the USAREC Business Rules. If you are still in the IRR and want to go Reserves....you might be able to reach out to a Reserve Career Counselor and that may save you the MEPS headache.
Response by CPT Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 27 at 2013 10:28 PM 2013-11-27T22:28:22-05:00 2013-11-27T22:28:22-05:00 SSG Private RallyPoint Member 12860

It is ashame they disqualify otherwise perfectly good potential service members for small reasons just because someone says we need to reduce the force size. While obese people ride profiles for years and waste space. Talk to your recruiter and see if MEPS or OPS turned in the MED WVR. if they did you can check status on leader zone. There are waivers for everything but right now the waiver process for ANY medical WVR has gone from a 48 turn around with approval to a 4-5 week disapproval. the reduction of force has caused the standards at MEPS to be raised. I had 3 people turned away because they had to much wax in their ears.

Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Nov 28 at 2013 5:21 PM 2013-11-28T17:21:11-05:00 2013-11-28T17:21:11-05:00 SFC James Baber 22779

SSG R., With the cut backs and sequestrian going on I am surprised it is not being utilized even more, especially with the QMP boards and all the other tools being utilized to downsize per your current CIC.
