"Walker Signs Bill Outlawing Lies About Military Service"

Gov. Scott Walker has signed a bill that makes lying about military service a crime.

The Republican bill makes falsely claiming military service or a military award a misdemeanor punishable by up to nine months in jail and $10,000 in fines.

If someone makes those claims intending to commit or aid another crime he or she would be guilty of a felony punishable by up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

Walker signed the bill Wednesday.

The Assembly passed the measure in April. The Senate followed suit in May.

Good for Governor Walker, and good for Wisconsin. I hope other States follow suit! Enforcement may be somewhat cumbersome, so I would think this would end up ferreting out at least some of the more blatant fakes, but the ordinary bar room-ranger will probably get mostly overlooked.

A much more effective approach to dealing with Solen Valor situations is to 1) Have SV designated as a type of mental illness by the mental health community 2) Have states allow police and magistrates to commit people accused of SV to a mental facility for 72 hours observation. It would be a much stronger deterent to a person if local LE could take them for a mental evaluation rather than depend on the feds to investigate and charge someone with a felony for something that is quite often a symptom of mental illness. Very few of these cases ever go forward and attention people get - even from being called out - is what they crave. What they need is treatment before their fantasies take them further down the road to mental instability.

I'm just kinda done with this whole thing. Anyone who's been or has familiy that's been in can tell a faker, and anyone who hasn't....usually doesn't care either way.
Yes, it's offensive that someone wears things they didn't earn....but I feel that so many people ruin outings with their families by starting shit with the fakers. If people want to pose as veterans to get sympathy or money or recognition then I say send them to basic training as their sentence. I think this is a good idea. Recently I was at Lowes and I asked them if there is a Military Veteran Discount. They said yea and took 10% off my purchase. I asked the clerk "aren't you going to ask to see my VA Card?" She didn't know she could ask. I actually pity those that are fake. I get that they want to be one of "us", but "us" are the ones that put in the time, sweat, tears and blood. For that the fakes are dead wrong and should be disciplined. It is up to "us" to maintain the bearing we were taught and deal with the fakes in a humane way. On the internet I deal with “Stolen Valor every Day from Military Romance scammers, Internet Predators and Terrorist, who steal Pictures of our Soldiers and Officers to hide behind in the attempt to steal and or disgrace out military and many times our Heroes.

The Denigration of a good Soldiers / Officers and the Military by these Internet Predators (Romance Scammers) and Terrorist, trying to make it seem our military are criminals stealing from the countries and people they are protecting. These Terrorist cannot defeat the Soldiers on the battlefield and now are using Military scams to destroy the reputations of our soldiers and officers.

These Terrorist are now physically Targeting the military and soldiers around the world. ISIS (An Islamic Terrorist Organization) is using Facebook to target our military personnel who have Facebook pages. All military personnel have been instructed to delete all military pictures. Supporter of ISIS have already carried out attacks in the United States, France, Canada and tied to in Australia.

Any anyone that says they are military on a social Media should be considered a scammer and Terrorist. This warning will also apply to us and Anti-Scam Hunters, as we are fighting these criminals and terrorist and they will try and stop us along with targeting the military and former military personnel.

I've met people wearing uniforms purchased at local surplus stores. Wearing them to get discounts at certain establishments.

The probability of this being enforced is pretty low. This has been illegal for some time as a federal offense but there will always be someone willing to play semantics to get out of it. This E.O needs to be clear and concise to avoid further misrepresentation

This is something that should be delt harshly. It's takes away from everybody who has ever served their country. Plus, for everybody that has made the ultimate sacrifice to this country. If YOU, where not man enough to serve then why, try to be man enough now, to fake it???

Quietly remove these individuals from our society. Most hero's in my book avoid the lime light, give credit instead to other members of their units who are deceased and deserve more credit than the survivors. These grand standers should be stripped of their rank and turned loose at the forts front gate like Chuck Connors was in the hit series "Branded" character Jason McCord.
