While watching the New Years Celebration at Times Square I saw a Marine PFC in his dress uniform there. I was a little surprised why you would ever do such a thing.<div><br></div><div>There are functions that you can't wear your uniforms to such as political events or to an extremist organization. I will admit that I did get married in my blues. But is there a time and place for it. I recall seeing video from the WWII era where all soldiers would wear their uniforms while on pass. Now we don't do that but some will still wear their dress uniform to events. I often tease my wife that I am going to wear mine to my sisters wedding because I refuse pay to rent a used tux for two hundred dollars. But I will get the tux to keep the wife happy, at the loss of my wallet.</div><div><br></div><div>Where have you seen military members wear their uniforms to in public? Did it seem professional and respectful for the occasion? The last question, how did it reflect on the military?</div><div><br></div><div>Just don't be like the Navy Seal that killed Bin Laden.</div><div><br></div><div>(I have heard that if you are going to military wedding and you out rank the groom or have more decorations than the groom you shouldn't wear the uniform as you don't want the groom to look any less compared to you.)</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="http://t.fod4.com/c/8e464776e6/c480x270_custom_10436fc7852ae75711ac2de0a2594570_30678.jpg"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a target="_blank" href="http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/8e464776e6/the-navy-seal-who-killed-osama-bin-laden">The Navy Seal Who Killed Osama Bin Laden</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description">with Rob Riggle, Funny Or Die</div></div><div style="clear:both"></div><div class="pta-box-hide"><i class="icon-remove"></i></div></div>

Well LCpl Eggers that was also a big non no when I was in as a matter of fact at my last active duty assignment you were not allowed to wear an ear ring on base if you were a male even off duty

1LT William Clardy It doesn't really matter what uniform the S1 wears they are never in the office. They have better hours than bankers.

It is much more appropriate for a Marine to wear dress blues in public than for an Army soldier to wear BDUs to dinner in town!

SGT (Join to see) - My original comment was about it being more appropriate to see a Marine in town in dress blues than to see a Soldier in town in BDU/ACU.

Especially since doing that is actually an infraction, I agree. I generally disdain people who make corrections like that in front of family members, but it is tempting.

SSG (Join to see) - Making a quick stop is accounted for in the regs, but the issue is going somewhere that requires a bit of prior planning

LT,
I realize this was some time ago, but it just hit my box tonight. I guarantee that was a young PFC who just within the week had graduated from boot camp. Am I wrong on the uniform-in that it was his Dress Greens (Alphas)? I wore mine to the Zoo with my parents! (of course that was 29 1/2 years ago) As long as that young man was acting right, I say God Bless him for his pride (of course it could be that was the nicest things he had to wear and was hoping to look smooth for the ladies).
And in retrospect, have we not done some crazy things for the ladies?

I remember coming home from basic wearing my Class A's to the mall, I was always told as long as it wasn't a political event and you didn't bring discredit to the uniform it was okay.

I was a PFC, still in AIT. I was dating a Col.'s daughter. She wanted me to wear my Class A's out to dinner. I was young, proud, AND a gentleman. And her father could not have been nicer!

Holy hell, weren't you hot in your blues? I couldn't imagine wearing my blues anywhere not air conditioned.

1970 to 1972, we would wear either the Class A's or Class B's to take advantage of reduced airfare from our base to our parents home. The fatigue uniform was allowed only from base to your home near base. Getting caught meant a long lecture from the SM and the Section Chief. I was proud to wear my Class A uniform home, fit better than the civilian dress jacket.
