Only when practical. I do not wear it when I am on the ship or conducting electrical/mechanical work.

Standard wedding band, platinum. Makes for a great bottle opener when in a foreign port.

I wear Tungsten. Doesn't scratch easily and looks sharp in uniform. Also, if it needs to be taken off for some reason, I can put it on my Dog tags and it blends in well. Very simple ring design with inscription on the inside.

Yes, I wear mine literally all the time. I got it in Guatemala while I was there years ago, and it's made of silver and spotted white jade, both of of which are native to the mountains in that area.

I wear a P4 white alloy metal, it looks like a white gold ring, but doesn't lose its color. Plus if I smash my finger for some reason, I know the Paramedics can cut it off easily with a ring cutter. A Tungsten ring needs to be smashed, a SS ring will be very hard to cut...so I tend so stay away from hard metals because I wrench on cars occasionally and happen too like my fingers.i take it off when doing anything electrical or working on cars.

I don't wear one while in uniform. First, I am in a mechanized infantry unit. We are around our bradleys a bit. I never wear a ring when around equipment that can crush. Really, when you are around others in your unit they should know you are married.

Next, I don't want to advertise it while I am deployed. I don't want a soldier from another country to google my name and find anything about my personal life. I don't even want them to know I am married. If you leave that blank on facebook and wear a ring in your pictures or around you are defeating the purpose.

Next, I lose them. I lost one while diving in Hawaii once. I lost one in Iraq. Now I just put it on the chain I keep on my ID tags in my back pocket.

I wear traditional when doing office work, tungsten when doing nearly everything else at work (I don't want scratch my rings or lose a diamond), anf no ring when I know it will get in the way or in situations it could get stuck and potentially cause bodily harm. I also don't wear one during PT or ruck marching because it has caused me to get ring rash a few times.

Try to wear mine which is a tungsten band most of the time. If I am just instructing a class, or doing paperwork type stuff I will wear it. If I am doing pt, patient care, or anything where it could be hazardous, I take it off.

If I'm going to be in the field or wearing work gloves, then I do not wear my ring.
A friends husband nearly lost is ring finger while putting up a tree stand. He started to fall and caught the ring on the stand trying to catch himself.
There have been a few times that my ring was lost in gloves because it would stick inside the glove as I took them off. I wear tight fitting work gloves for my civilian job, so I do not wear my ring at work either.

My ex loaded bombs on F111 and was told not to wear his ring on his finger while on duty. I have a friend that is an electrician and recently got a bad burn on his hand from a wire touching his ring. He doesn't wear one at work any more. I never had problems on duty wearing mine but it's not very comfortable while wearing a Chem warfare suit for hours during mobility drill.

I still wear my wedding ring after being widowed 19 months, I'm not quite ready to take it off.

Mines titanium....nice and light and its was fairly inexpensive. I had a tendency to play with my ring (take it on and off) and lost my orginal one within 2months of being married. I can't afford to wear an expensive one as I'm thinking that was the first but not the last time it will happen.

The very first injury I ever took care of as a baby Medic was a degloving, kid had jumped off the back of a five-ton and caught his ring just right. He was lucky and didn't lose his finger but, that image has stayed with me my entire career.
It was a huge bone of contention when I was married because I would only wear my rings when I wasn't seeing patients (doing exercise demos, joint mobs and scar releases with rings on HURTS) off mission and out of uniform. I rarely even wear a watch these days.

I usually tend not to in uniform, specially during training or any kind of field time. Now that I'm working in a hospital though I wear one of the cheap silicone ones while leaving my actual good one at the house for when the uniform comes off.

Though not at work...after June 1990.. why you ask? Because one of my sqd leaders De-gloved his finger when we were doing dismount drills (Anti Tank platoon, HMMWV gun trucks) Came out the TC door and the ring caught on the door latch.. he was half way to the side of the truck ready to receive the Thermal sight when he realized his finger hurt and was bleeding.

Never again wore a ring at work unless I was only in the company area and not around vehicles or equipment.

No. When I first was married we exchanged silver (white gold) and gold rings. We PCSed to Hawaii a few days after the ceremony and began a very active outdoor life; we did a lot of swimming as well as other outdoor activity. About 4 months after our arrival, I had lost about 10 lbs. and we were at Bellows Beach swimming. My wedding ring slipped off in the water and was gone in seconds to never re emerge from the ocean.

Of course I did get a replacement; since I had lost weight, we got the new ring in my smaller size. I wore it on my finger until our ships began coming out of the yards and we moved back on USS Rathburne (FF-1057). My practice and any smart Sailor's safety practice is to NEVER wear any rings on a ship. I put my ring on my dog tags and wore it that way for the rest of my sea tour.

Did I mention I got the ring in the smaller size for my new slender weight? Of course that did not last when we got underway. So I was going to have the ring resized, but that would have destroyed the design. Instead I decided to lose the weight. Well the ring is in my Jewelry box, I still have not last the weight. Stop laughing!

The only thing I wear is my Greek Cross around my neck and my Diabetes Dog Tag. No rings at all - looking for any, I have quite a few you might want. When I was on ACDU my Dog Tags were on rubber covered chains - I was an Electronics Tech. Fried Squid belongs on a plate not in the Radio Shack.

I'm glad this question was brought up. It seems common sense to me, that if you're married you wear your rings! This opinion of mine has nothing to do with religion, I suppose it has to do with the way I was raised and taught that when you're married you wear rings. It drives me crazy seeing people who are married and they don't wear their ring. The military doesn't have an issue with it (or does it?), so I guess it's not an issue. I still wear mine though.

I wore a traditional gold band in the AF. When I was active duty, there were no silicone rings that I was aware of.

I have a close friend that is making the silicone rings after almost losing his finger when his traditional metal ring got caught on playground equipment while playing with his kids.

I rarely do. Aviation made it a no no. We had to remove our dog tags and rings anytime we worked on aircraft. After my Iraq mishap I have bad damage to my ulnar nerves and my pinkies and ring fingers are almost always buzzing. I had to replace or upgrade my wedding ring because I was the traditional type of person. I’ve worn it during PT, which is now PRT, working in the motor pool, training with Soldiers in the field, and though five deployments. It had so many dents and scratches; the jewelry department could not repair it. Since, I’ve replaced it, I take it off at the motorpool, field training, or weight room.

I wear a simple tungsten band. Had a beautiful etched gold band for years, but it didn't stand up well to the rigors of military life (or civilian life either for that matter. It took a beating in the 6 years I was out finishing my education to come back in as a chaplain). Over the years it got bent, warped, and was starting to crack. My wife got me the tungsten band as a replacement for our 15th wedding anniversary and the gold ring was tucked away in safe keeping.

Okay...funny story: I was called out of the IRR and assigned to a unit that I had never worked with—infantry, but lots of women throughout the brigade. In training, before actually deploying, I was asked for sex on three different occasions by three different female soldiers (all E-4s). One asked if I wanted to be her (forgive me) "fuck buddy." Being the committed married type, I turned all three women down. I was trying to figure out what made me so "attractive" to these women. I stand 5'6", 130 lbs, and wasn't particularly muscular. I am the religious type as well, though not the type that ever brought it up in a conversation...so, I was always respectful. Finally, I decided to test something—I took my wedding ring off. ... After that, not a single female soldier propositioned me for sex and I was only hit on one more time (by a female Marine in line at the chow hall at Al Asad).

I actually would need to click on 2 of the answers. I wear a traditional gold band most of the time. HOWEVER, I also have a tattooed wedding ring that is under the gold band. For deployments/work duties that would place me at greater risk for de-gloving or theft, I remove the gold band and leave it with my wife. Each and every time I have done this, I have informed her that I EXPECT to receive it back at the end of the mission. It has worked for me every time!

24K plain yellow gold band; now why do I wear it, in or out of uniform you ask? Because it's a symbol or commitment for both myself and my wife... and for others that are not aware. I wear mine only off duty. I saw some one de-glove a finger years ago and never wanted that to happen to me. That being said I believe that being married to someone is more than a piece of metal or a mark on your skin. It's a state of mind and soul that will show regardless.

Tungsten. I am naturally abusive to everything I own. I needed to get a rugged smartphone after joining the Army. I figured with tungsten, I will be able to have one that will survive ME. So far, so good.

I do not. I probably wear a few times a year at most, only for formal occasions where I appear with the wife. I don't like the feel of a ring on my hand. Same reason I don't wear a watch.

I wore my ring every now and then as a newly married man. I used to work as a mechanic at a dealership so had to take my ring off for work (really easy to lose a finger that way). After a few months, I lost my ring. Got another one, but I have never worn it and never will. I don't like jewelry, except watches. My wife knows this and she has no other choice since I refuse to wear my ring, it feels really uncomfortable.

I were a palladium one. I think the tattooed ones can be distasteful, and the super flashy ones are extremely distasteful. Now, if you're someone who works with their hands, like a mechanic or weaponeer, then not having it on is usually mandatory.

When I first got married, I was broke so I have a really thin wedding ring that I wear daily (except at the gym and when working around the house), even though I have broken it a couple of times.

I do have a thicker ring I wear when at drill, it won't break like the original but it will never be the original.

When I was in, I kept it in my pocket. Being an Aviation Electrician, Avionics Tech, crawling around on a Helo, and working with live Electricity was not going to work to my benefit by wearing a metal ring on my finger. Could have been a very shocking experience

I never wear a ring. In another life, I was a correctional officer and having inmates know *anything* about your personal life is a no-go. That was so deeply ingrained it just carried over to the military. If I were to wear one now it would just get all scratched up or I would hurt myself from all the gear we move around. I like to think I don't need a ring to show I'm faithful to my wife, I just show it in my actions every day.

I wasn't married during my service time but if I had been I would have worn it. However, depending on the environment it can be a hazard. I saw a guy during a charlie working party in the hangar bay lose his finger to a chain hoist that caught his wedding band. It lifted him up by his ring until it parted from his hand with finger attached.

I would probably buy one of those silicone ones they have now if I worked outside of an office.

The only time that I took my ring off while in the service was during Airborne School. But, even then, I still just put it on my Dog Tag chain. I feel naked without it and I don't take it off.

Yes I wear my ring in uniform. Only when I'm working in or on my trucks (915s) other than just mounting up and driving do I take it off and put it on my dog tag chain. Since I do work around equipment that could potentially snag my ring, I try to minimize the risk by having a plain gold band, I don't need a gaudy rock getting in my way at work nor risk losing an expensive piece of jewelry.
On another note, wearing a ring or not, fellow soldiers should know if you're married. I'd recommend having the ring on your person at all times.

My wife and I each have metal and tattooed ones, but on advice of my father and uncles (all retired Navy) I am likely not going to wear one while on the boat; they have all seen deglovings happen, and I have also been warned about careless ETs who forget to remove jewelry before doing maintenance and then receive an electric shock.

I wear a black Seranite ceramic ring and have never had to take it off except for Boot Camp. It doesn't get too hot or cold, is very light and is extremely scratch resistant and black all the way through, so any scratches aren't noticeable. I recommend it to anyone.

I took mine off the day after my wife and I were married. I don't wear any jewelry, even a watch. I will wear my wedding ring on special occasions with my wife e.g., anniversary dinners, balls, etc.

MSgt I am planning on getting married in a few years if I stay with my current girlfriend. I marked other because it would depend on the type of ring I decide to get if its one like a tungenstun ring I would or would put it on my dog tags during field events or deployment so that I don't lose or damage it though that material is tough.

I strongly advise NOT wearing your ring in the field. As the medic pointed out, I have seen several soldiers injured because their ring was caught on equipment.

When I was a Second LT I lost my first wedding ring doing PT at Fort Benning. Also as a Tanker it was dangerous to wear a wedding ring if you were working around the tanks electrical system you could arch and get seriously injured. So I kept my wedding ring on my dog tags chain until I became a staff officer and no longer worked around mechanical or electrical equipment then I put it back on. My wife would always ask why I took it off and wore it around my neck. My answer better to keep the symbol of our relationship safe and me safe, than to loose it of my life.

I understand many choose to wear and hold this dear to them. I always have worked in food service or shipping / receiving and on ships and submarines. Working in food, I had a strict rule of nobody could wear any jewelry in the food service area's.
As an instructor for several years, I could have but, out of habit chose not to wear my ring. As soon as I retired, the ring went on and stayed there for quite a number of years.

I am not married but I do not think I would wear it in uniform only because I have seen way too many of the posters with people's fingers skinned to the bone when the ring got caught on something. I would also be afraid of losing it.

I can't wear mine as a flyer. I'd rather not lose it, so it stays in her jewelry box. We have trust so I don't have to prove to someone or remind myself that I'm married.

I wear one of the silicone rings when working or in uniform. I still wear my ring my wife gave me when we go out for dinner or special occasions. My wife appreciates the fact that I got "another", more functional, ring to show my commitment when I'm in working mode.

I don't wear mine since I work with live electronics. Plus my ring already broke once on the ship so I tend to keep it on my necklace, in my rack, or at home. I really don't like putting in my pocket because I'll forget about it and lose it in the wash. That or I'll set it down and lose it that way.

I do not. As a Reservist, my civilian job in the fire service involves enough risk that I'd rather not add degloving to the list. When I'm at drill I don't either for primarily the same reason.

Married for 22 years and just started wearing one 2 days ago, no tan line yet and I am still very aware of its presence. It is silver and my wife has a matching ring but hers is not as thick. We never wore one before because she only recently started to wear jewelry of any kind and now that I do not do the crewing or actual maintenance on the birds it is easy to just lay it on my keyboard when I need to go inspect an aircraft. I am a very traditional guy and always wanted to wear one but it just was not worth the risk of loss or injury in my previous positions.

Pay no attention to the dry craking "old man hands" or the scars.

I carry it through my dog tag chains, but do not wear them. I seem to get hit on MORE when wearing it (I guess they figure the flirting is "safe". Also, I worked in an ambulance for a number of years and routinely took it on/off and almost lost it a few times.

I'm not much for symbols like that. The ring was like $20 or so...cheap steel, but I didn't see a need to invest a ton into a hunk of metal. Would rather invest that money into the relationship.

If I am doing hands on medical care, I tend to leave it at home. Now that I am doing mostly administrative duties, I wear it every day. Oddly, watches are almost inverse... when I am doing patient care, I have to have a watch. Now that I am doing admin, I rarely wear one...

I wore mine, a plain gold band most of the time, except when working or flying. I saw a guy get hung by his from a rescue hoist on a helicopter when the ship rolled and the ladder fell out from under him. Luckily he was able to grab a hold of it with his other hand & hold on until we got the ladder back up. There were also safety posters with a finger ripped off at the knuckle because of a wedding band. Some situations are just too dangerous for Even a wedding band.

I wear a Tungsten wedding band in uniform. However, if I am performing an activity where the ring could become a hazard I remove it. I wasn't married in Afghanistan but if/when I deploy again I'll wear it on FOBs but not outside the wire.
I have considered getting one of the silicone rings though...

The only time I didn't wear my wedding band was during boot camp at Parris Island and MCT at Camp Geiger, didn't want to lose it. I didn't wear my original band on deployment either, I bought a cheaper titanium one that I wouldn't mind if I lost or if it got stolen if something were to happen to me over there.

CINC house was reasonable though, considering O-Courses, Ranges and my
Career Field I just had to keep it on my person and wear it back into the house. Usually was on the Dog tags if it wasn't on the finger.

Some if the guys wore them. I wasn't married and I was an ET. Always had my hands on high voltage in the ships Radar. Not a good idea to wear any kind of ring!!

When my grandfather died,I inherited his wedding ring (only male descendant) I wore that until right after basic. One of the drills was a mechanic and near the end had pulled aside many of the married soldiers and showed them the scar on his finger from when the ring had gotten caught. While on leave, I locked it up in a gun safe and it has sat there ever since.
When I got married, I was "issued" a new one and that I wore only in garrison, non field training/motor pool environments.

I used to, till I took it off one night in bed and it fell behind the bed. I used the shop vac the next day to vacuum under the bed as my small children throw everything under the bed, so I think my ring is in a dump near Belton Tx. If anyone finds it, please contact me.

I have a metal ring that I wear on a daily basis and while in Garrison. When I deploy overseas I will be taking a cheaper stainless steel ring in case I lose it. This is also something that I will take off when working with communications equipment, holding or firing a weapon, PT, and sleep. It is a symbol of my dedication and commitment to my wife, but it does occasionally get in the way.

I typically wear this bare bones ring instead of my normal wedding ring while in training. My husband, when working in aviation or maintenance, does not wear his.

I wear the wedding wing on outings and weekends, or away from work, and work ring throughtout the week, unless Im training or working machinery. the former 91 series guy in me remembers his safety briefs well.

Here is why I choose other.

I had my engagement ring on one day it wasn't anything big because I am a plan Jane. We were putting the shelters back on the Humvee and My ring got caught on one of the latches on the side of the shelter. I luckily got unstuck but it was a scary moment for me. I took the ring off and it looked like a tear drop instead of a circle. I took it home knowing he would understand. From that point on if I was doing field work I didn't wear a ring, but in service dress I always wore my ring. ( My finger has a permanent "ring" now it is like it indented my bone.)

When I was in I always wore my ring when possible. As a surgical technician I had to take it off when working in surgery. When my first wife passed away I wore it for a little while then took it off. When I remarried a couple of years later I started wearing a ring again when not restricted by my duties. My son has a tattooed ring that I think is totally cool because his duties preclude him from wearing a ring many times.

I have a stainless steel, when I was an active flyer I never wore it while on the flight line. But in the office always.

Yes, I wear a ring uniformly but not the same one. I think wedding rings is like cherry on the cake, they add more beauty in couples. Yes, all the time, but not necessarily always on my finger. Whenever I was flying or in the simulator it was on my dogtags and around my neck. Carried this practice when I spent my time in maintenance and was around equipment all the time. Would never even think about not wearing wedding ring someplace on my body......47 years and counting.

No. I left it off so there would be no mistakes on my part. My first unit out of bootcamp in the Coast Guard was the CGC Elderberry (the original!), a 65' buoy tender. I also did 3 tours at an "Aids to Navigation" (ANT) Team and 1 tour on a 180' CG Buoy Tender. While working buoys, chains and sinkers, climbing structures, etc.; wearing your wedding ring was asking to lose a finger as quickly as you wanted to. I wouldn't wear gloves in the winter when doing so, as they would continually get pinched in the chain. My wife understood my concerns as well, and it was not an issue for her.

I have a platinum gold band w/ 3 small diamonds. I wear mine all the time while in garrison. But as soon I know I'm rolling out to the field, I remove it. I've seen way too many injuries/degloving while in the Engineers and when I was a Medic. And when in the field, people (outside of my unit) already seem to know I'm married. I guess I have that married look/walk.

Our colors for our wedding and marriage/family are cobalt blue, yellow gold, and deep purple. Vow renewal rings are gold with amethysts and diamonds, while the wedding rings are gold with sapphires (my wife’s engagement ring also has a diamond in it).
When I’m in Navy NWU/USMC MARPAT/USCG ODU, my Working and field uniforms, I don’t wear them. In service and dress uniforms, always on.

I was taught in basic back in 65 NOT to wear rings, something about 21/2 ton tailgate tearing your finger off.
