I deployed to Iraq in 2003 and returned in 2004. All of our reports were written by hand. Some soldiers in the unit wanted to get copies of the reports to put in for awards such as the CAB. I’ve heard those reports were all destroyed when the unit returned home. Has anyone heard of this or believe that can be true? Thanks!

Units are supposed to maintain a log in a CP. usually it's a DA1594 staff duty journal run by the S3 NCOs. With the Army Battle Command systems that's supposed to,live forever (CPOF, BCS3, BFT, etc). Those systems were of course nonexistent in 2003. I'm sure because Of Security, transportability, etc they were likely dumped in the burn barrel. Couldn't leave them, couldn't take them. Catch 22.

LTC Jason Mackay Thank you for the reply. It does make sense to an extent. Feel bad for the guys who need those reports.

That would have been up to the individual unit. In the 709th MP BN, all reports were done on computers, both pre and post mission. And I imagine those are long gone but you never know. I’d start with the company level (if you were a company level MP), then work your way up to the S-1/S-3 shops of BN and BDE. You’re probably looking at an uphill battle though. Good luck.

SGT Mark Estes - the hold up,is that all, outside of theater requests are approved by the Commander of HRC. That is a huge critical path.

1SG Joseph Yorski, MHS I got out of the reserve unit in 2005 and every person that served in that unit then is out. I’ve tried contacting the unit and they essentially want nothing to do with outsiders. Other guys I know who have tried have had the same results. I’ll keep trying to help the guys that are looking for this most likely none existent paperwork. I am grateful for the RP community and appreciate your information and help, you as well LTC Jason Mackay

SGT Mark Estes You might try the IG on your way to your congressman, who would be a last resort if I was one of those Soldiers. If the unit refuses to assist, the IG may be able to help the AGR’s remember who they actually are there to support.
