GOP Investigating Committee Chair Says No Troops or Support Were In Position.
Hillary Clinton requested timely support from Panetta and Petraeus. What happened?
USDOS has light weapons security but relies on host country and our military for defense.
What do you believe given numerous reports our combat assets were spooling up but withheld?

1LT Sandy Annala Although I agree we should have military assets positioned to be available to respond wherever we have Americans assigned, the fact is that it is probably impossible to realistically accomplish that in a manner that guarantees the "quick response" necessary in situations like Benghazi. That certainly does not mean that assets should not have been immediately launched. Nobody knew if they would get there in time to make a difference or not, as nobody knew how long the situation would last or if there would be follow-on attacks, etc. As I stated in another post about this subject, to not send forces immediately was gross dereliction of duty and is akin to the police refusing to respond to a report of an armed robbery or rape in progress because it was likely it would have ended before they arrived on the scene. Pure and complete BS.
COL Jean (John) F. B.
SGT Sean Wike - My point is that nobody knew when the "party would be over" (as you described it). To not immediately launch available forces was dereliction of duty. They could have been recalled, if necessary. You get a call for assistance, you gather forces, launch, and plan enroute....
"Established in 1987, FAST companies provide a limited-duration, expeditionary security force to protect vital naval and national assets. FAST maintains forward-deployed platoons at various naval commands around the globe, and possesses U.S.-based alert forces capable of rapidly responding to unforeseen contingencies worldwide. Each FAST company is equipped and trains with some of the most state-of-the-art weaponry and currently consists of around 500 Marines." The is a FAST company in Rota Spain so I call BS!

I recall from when 1/8 got blown up in Beirut one of the senior officers said they had a torrent of warnings.

Too much intel may be why President Lincoln said one of his generals "acted like a duck hit on the head."
SGT Charles W.
Capt Walter Miller - So I don't think I'm understanding the article. My interpretation is that they had credible Intel about attacks and the Libians were suppose to be providing security but backed out because it was too dangerous, so the US provided security but over time was pulling out more and more of our teams despite knowing there would be an imminent attack. Am I reading this right or way off base?

MSG (Join to see) - "I understand the concept and I agree were it not for those rapid deployment forces we have sitting in Italy. Other than that, the quote seems like an odd offering in relation to original post. "
Are you saying that Sun Tzu is not correct? He gets a pretty good press you know. I guess it just means you can't expect to have QRF's tripping over each other.
"Sitting in Italy." But the Ambassador and his aide were dead in two hours. I sure would hate to get carpal whaling on this dead horse of a subject.

Capt Walter Miller - I had a few minutes between patients and it was easy to find.
