In Communications (165th Signal Co.) we did use the Field Phone-I believe-in Basic Training. We also used it when we were out in the field thereafter. Communicating over the Field Phone, was the only similarity to the kind of communications I had learned in my university.Response by SPC Margaret Higgins made Jan 30 at 2016 9:03 AM2016-01-30T09:03:47-05:002016-01-30T09:03:47-05:00PO1 William "Chip" Nagel1268554<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Well versed, No. Having said that I had the Early Traits and Skills sets that made me an Ideal Choice. I barely passed typing in High School and had a Hell of a time passing it in A-School and it was very critical to what I was and did for 21 years but once I conquered it I was one speedy bastard. 2 Incidents come to mind though from my Child Hood. Using a Radio Shack electronics Experiment Circuit Kit I made two awesome devices that spoke volumes. I made a Radio Transmitter Ckt and connected it to a Spark Gap Generator (Basic RF Jammer) I could Jam a whole City Block Pretty Good. The other was another Transmitter Ckt that I hooked up to an off the shelf Walkie Talkie and bingo bango I was on the Police Tactical Voice Network and then were none to pleased and did try to Triangulate me. Yeah I was cut out for Electronic and Information Warfare long before I signed on the dotted line.Response by PO1 William "Chip" Nagel made Jan 30 at 2016 9:07 AM2016-01-30T09:07:19-05:002016-01-30T09:07:19-05:00MCPO Roger Collins1268779<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Not in the least, the recruiter used my mediocre score in mechanics to determine my fate. I did learn to tinker with electronic things growing up with my Gramps, he was a "tinkerer", fixed and made his own things. <br />The Navy taught me to type. Spent many hours in mando typing class. I had a hard time on the old teletype, actually last in my A school class to qualify on it...lol But once i got the hang of it, i'll admit i had some mad skills. :)Response by PO1 Brian Austin made Jan 30 at 2016 1:09 PM2016-01-30T13:09:25-05:002016-01-30T13:09:25-05:00PFC Stephen Eric Serati1270952<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>Some what.I didn't have much of a choice but never the less I got what I wanted, being attached to Aviation as gunner in Iraq was awesome.2 different worlds,Infantry, and Aviation.Response by PFC Stephen Eric Serati made Jan 31 at 2016 11:54 AM2016-01-31T11:54:10-05:002016-01-31T11:54:10-05:00CPT Private RallyPoint Member1272090<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I played a lot of video games so I guess I was pretty much infantry.Response by CPT Private RallyPoint Member made Jan 31 at 2016 11:40 PM2016-01-31T23:40:08-05:002016-01-31T23:40:08-05:00Maj Kim Patterson1272288<div class="images-v2-count-0"></div><a class="dark-link bold-link" role="profile-hover" data-qtip-container="body" data-id="608177" data-source-page-controller="question_response_contents" href="/profiles/608177-spc-margaret-higgins">SPC Margaret Higgins</a> had not a clue for my first assignment. Wish I could go back and get a do over. I became very proficient quickly, lived on a beach after coming from a blizzard ....and I got paid! Asked to stay and teach the new candidates but I wanted to travel, as long as it was the warm weather tour. I was surrounded by enlisted who were doing a great job and were happy to show me the ropes along every assignment change.
