What advice do you have for an E-5 going back to basic training?

Hello, my husband is prior service, Navy E5, and is transitioning to Army. He was accepted to WOCS and flight school. He is going to Jackson tomorrow for basic training.
As an E5, what should he expect? We are hearing conflicting stories about what to expect. We have been told he will get his own room and his phone in the evening. Can anyone confirm? Thanks!

The Sergeant we had that went through training with us was housed in a separate barracks than us lower enlisted soldiers. On weekends he was allowed an on post pass and he had his cell phone during the duration of basic training. He also ate at a separate table than all of the rest of the lower enlisted. I believe the privileges are at the discretion of the commanding officer.

That depends. When I was a DS I had a former Navy E-5. He got a separate living area with another E-5 going through, but that was only after we made an area available. Not always the case. That same cycle, we also had a prior service E-4 Navy Diver and a prior service Air Force E-3 PJ dropout. They didn’t get any extra privileges than the PVT next to them in the platoon as far as phones or passes. They still had to complete the same training. We did look to them to help “herd the cats” or to bring stuff to our attention. They weren’t treated extra special, but they weren’t treated like fresh recruits.

He needs to understand that the Army and Navy are different in many ways go in check attitude at door the drills don't want to hear we used to do it this way plus not a democracy when the drills say do this the discussion is over

Couldn't agree more! Maybe not so much when it comes to USAR, USMC or ARNG. But, most definitely some differences as it may relate to the the USN, USAF, and ANG.

What is the problem with that? As an E-5 who has been in over 6 years, don’t you think we deserve to get treated a little bit better than an 18 year old coming right out of high school?
