What advice do you have for someone decided to reclassify to 92G and transfer to a petroleum supply company?

So to update my last post I decided to transfer to a petroleum supply company but instead of reclassing yo 92F i will be reclassing yo 92G. The reason I'm reclassing to 92G is because the slot I'm filling is E7 92G slot. Any E7 92Gs have any advice?

I'll say this 92 Golf will make or break the morale of the Unit. SFC you are the Head Cook, your signing for all the gear inventory better be 100% food second to none. Good luck

As a SSG you won't even touch a spoon in the kitchen, and you say you are filling a E7 slot?

At the SFC level, you will definitely be a manager. Lead your junior NCOs and let them lead their Soldiers, and you will have a great team.

Make sure you learn how differently the 92Gs support the mission, and how different our work conditions are. You need to understand we don't really deal with nutrition. The supply SGT can handle that by issuing MREs. We really deal with unit morale. If you focus on ways to contribute to unit morale, and also take care of the morale of your 92Gs, you will have a productive section. If you don't get those two things right, you will have a headache.

I've been a 92G my whole 13 years and the job is a very gratifying job in my personal experience. It's also very daunting and comes with a bunch of responsibility. I seen the comment that "SFC is the Head Cook" and this would not be true. Your E6 or E5 would be your headcook depending on MTOE. You are the Culinary Management NCO, in charge of your readiness to deploy a mesh section in any environment. You have to make sure all your paperwork is going over great on top of your Soldiers receiving the proper training by your NCO's. Making sure your equipment is being serviced through the other Platoons (depending on your unit, I'm in a CSC) or a FMS shop. You will go to all the meeting and figure out troop movements so LOGPAX can be pushed to the right areas. Developing and redefining your section SOP's... Jumping right into the E7 role can come with a ton of headaches but it all depends on how much work you want to put into it... you can be the SUPPLY SGTs best friend or worst nightmare.

Being a 92G has its perks I would recommend overall since promotion point arent hard just have fun with it most people do

I have seen so many people who reclass to 92G for an E-7 Position crash and burn because they cant do paperwork. Your the go to for everything and your the decision maker. KNOW the paperwork SOP and processes otherwise your going to struggggle.

So, another MOS jumper. You have alot of catch up to do, take counsel from your subordinates that have more experience. Read ALL the related manuals, and some civilian reference works as well ( especially"On Food and Cooking" by Harold McGee) JCCOE will not train you to the standard you need to perform at, your an E-7 it's your responsibility to get up to speed on your own time. Remember you answer directly to the company Commander in all food service matters, not Supply, platoon Sergeant, or 1st Sergeant. Every aspect of the food service operation is your responsibility, and it's your neck in the noose of things go side ways. You eat last, this is a point of honor, it is your responsibility to ensure there is sufficient food, if you run short it's your fault. Be kind and generous with all troops, but especially the junior enlisted. Take care of your K.P.s, speaking of which regulations only state that junior enlisted are preferred as K.P.s, anyone of any rank can be assigned or volunteer for K.P..
Become accustomed to functioning at a high level with chronic sleep deprivation. This is a production position not a desk job, no matter what any one tells you. When soldiers aren't hungry, you don't exist. Food service has the single greatest influence on the physical, mental, and emotional health of the unit, are you ready for that responsibility?
