(i.e: How are the barracks? Any deployments coming up? etc) What advice do you have for someone going to the 101st for their first duty station as an infantryman? 2020-04-19T17:44:37-04:00 SGT Private RallyPoint Member 5794203

Finally came down on orders for Campbell, this will be my first duty station as an infantryman i know the guard is way different so any advice would help. I was there 20 years ago. The infantry was in the field a lot.
The city of Clarksville is right outside the gate. I don't think it really geared for young folks. Nashville is maybe an hour and half away, but you make sure and don't get a DUI. Do you like to fish? Don’t get lazy with PT. The 101st loves their PT. Be ready to attend and graduate from Air Assault School. You WILL be sent. This is my second time back to Fort Campbell and I love it here. Clarksville is a really nice town and they just added a new hang out spot with arcades, laser tag, go karts, bowling and much more. Its pretty cool. Nashville is about an hour away so there’s that. If you have any questions, let me know. Every unit and platoon is different, but I was running ~4-6 miles every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Not joking, spend the money and get good running shoes. As of a decade ago Air Assault School slots weren't exactly handed out like candy, but if you pushed your leadership your desire to go you'd eventually get sent. Right now to my knowledge all "deployments" are related to CONUS operations, beyond that I won't say.

The 3rd BCT barracks are neither the worst nor the best I've ever seen in the Army, but I'd rank them among the better. Two bedrooms with their own unique lock that share a small kitchen and bathroom common area, with a DFAC and AAFES shopette/barbershop/gas station all in the brigade footprint. Bo's Barbershop outside post though is where I'd recommend you get your hair cut at though, they were the best around when I was at Campbell.

If you like city attractions you've got Nashville about an hour down the interstate to your south, and if you're a nature lover you've got Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area to your north, and Mammoth Cave National Park to your east. I forget what the mileage limit away from post is, but you might need to get permission to go beyond it to get to Mammoth Cave, but it's worth it.

Fort Campbell is a great post and I enjoyed my time there. Congrats and remember you'll always be able to say you served with the 101st Airborne, one of the greatest organizations in the United States military.
