What advice do you have for someone who has been rejected by the VA for compensation for hearing loss due to working on fighter aircraft?

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate question, but I presently wear hearing aids to be able to understand conversation. The VA has rejected my application for compensation. Worked on fighter aircraft and suffered hearing loss. Please advise.

I generally dislike using third parties but I would recommend that you get a Veteran Service Officer or someone else who has experience with appeals to work as an advocate for you. At the end of the day it comes down to verifiable connections and proof to that effect. I don't know what may have caused the denial but it could be something as simple as admin mistakes an advocate would help identify.

SSgt Murphy is correct, in my experience. Mistakes in filling out the VA forms are common, including failure to date and sign a form. Something as simple as that can bust the time limit that a VA evaluator has given you to file a Notice of Disagreement

1LT Voyle Smith - Sir, you are correct. In fact, my hearing loss claim was denied - and the first notice said I had 12 months to appeal. Shortly thereafter, I received a second notice that the time limit to appeal (as I recall) was shortened to THIRTY DAYS! I was unable to meet that deadline and hope that in the near future that I can open a new claim for hearing loss.

I see you’re being advised to consult with a counselor at a Veterans Service Organization. I strongly support that advice. I had the assistance of a counselor at the Disabled American Veterans. He did a great job in helping me salvage my claim after it was denied three times. All it takes to get started with them is a phone call to the local DAV office and ask for an appointment with a counselor. Be sure to take all of your paperwork with you - all of the correspondence between you and the VA, and most importantly, your DD214. Be patient, and keep the faith.
