I'm working a WO packet. I'll complete ALC this fall & will be eligible for 923A. I'm a 92F & I'm also interested in applying for 153A. Which WOMOS do you think I'd have a better chance of getting? I have a perm. profile and would need a APFT waiver. What is the likelihood that a waiver would be granted? Where should my focus on the application be? Resume? LoRs? Any insights are appreciated!

In my experience of WO packet submissions (I've done four total), I think you'd have a better chance at 923A. The reason is this: You can have a stellar packet and outshine most in technical competence and aptitude, but, and this is still unclear, they look for so much more than that when going for 153A. I was truly puzzled as to how they could say X,Y,Z about the prereqs and not consider other factors that would make an applicant worthy. I was closed-minded; not getting selected was probably the best turn my career could've taken. I truly think that Army Aviation is looking for above and beyond, and for those unknown circumstances, I would recommend anybody that is among the best should focus their discipline toward becoming a technician in their current field.

To answer your question: I think the resume is the best seller on top of a well-coached stack of LoRs. If the command supports your packet submission, they will ask you to submit a list of your achievements. I had a CW5 look over my packet and make corrections to everything before getting it signed, which also helped out a lot. I felt pretty solid about getting selected for 153A, but after my last two looks which HE QC'd, the CW5 sat me down and told me the reasons he thought I was "Fully Qualified-Not Selected." They consisted of a lower AFAST score than what was ideal, though it was above average. Also not having any aviation background, i.e. being a 15-series. Other things like not being in positions where my technical competence was mastered, or not being involved in certain technical programs of my unit.

By no means am I trying to spoil the whole bunch, but I know that particular process for 153A was difficult for me. Whatever you choose, I wish you the best of luck!!!

You will have to pass a 1A flight physical for 153A. That could affect your chances depending on what you profile is for.

Just out of curiosity, have you asked any Warrant Recruiters these questions yet? They often have the most up-to-date information and a pulse on what they are seeing get approved when it comes to waivers. I can also tell you that they are hurting right now for Warrants and aren't getting enough applications so that only helps to increase your chances of getting selected.
