What affect (good or bad) do you believe you will have by not having a complete profile and photo on RallyPoint?

RallyPoint encourages everyone to complete their profile as much as they can. It allows other members to learn about you and to hopefully better understand where you are coming from in the forums.

Employers that use this as a way to reach possible candidates for a job, can also see your background to help better understand both your hard and soft skills.

RallyPoint provides users that take the time to complete their profile with a chance to earn the Blue Ribbon which is RP's way of saying thank you for the time and effort taken to complete the profile.

I find it challenging to accept someone as a contact without a photo, as well as limited information available regarding background.

It really depends on what you use Rally Point for, since I'm not looking for a Job or trying to develop contacts not having a complete profile has not had any negative affect on me. I find RP topics and comments entertaining, another way for me to keep up with military discussions and items of interest.

I'm actually thinking of scaling back on my profile.

Other than to give our enemies a background profile--and you'd be foolish to think they aren't looking here (Good morning ISIS, go F$%# yourself!)--what real purpose does it serve?

I don't accept connections from people who don't share their complete profile with the community. You have no idea who they are. This is a professional forum (despite the decline in professionally focused posts) and I don't respond to someone who hasn't shared their information with the community. I don't pay attention to their posts or responses. Tell me who you are and what your experiences are and I can bracket my response properly.

Having a complete profile or close to offers the RallyPoint community an insight on what your experience is, and gives others an idea of where you are coming from with ones ideas/thoughts.

My opinion is if there is a question from someone and answer comes and that person answers it professionally and provides a great response even a bad response it is up to them to fill out their profile. It boils down to your objectives. Do you want your profile viewed for employment purposes, for more contacts, for job opportunities then fill it out but if your just on RP to join in on conversation or just merely read that could be a reason not to complete it. My last point would also be that many people today are paranoid of providing to much of their own information. Good question glad to be a part of it.

Im a bit of a completionist, so I did as much of my profile as I could. I dont think, however, that I will be getting the last ten percent. I don't intend to spam my military coworkers with invites and the ones I know are interested are already on RallyPoint

I don't think it matters.

I'm at like 91% complete, and will likely never be 100% because the last 9% is inviting people. I do that via word of mouth, and if RallyPoint want's me to do it in other ways, I'll send them a contract so they can pay me for my marketing.

I am a Marketing Professional on the civilian side, and I don't market for free if possible. Some things you can't help (movies, books, etc.) but things like this, I'll hold out for a paycheck. :)

It's interesting to hear the diversity or responses that the value of engagement on this platform. I personally am a open networker so I accept all invites and if there are issues after I connect I address it.

As a fortune 500 military recruiter I need to connect with other and expand my network.

I also have an opportunity to provide professional feedback that could help someone that may not know the value of a topic. Just like when I get a Soldier that come to my unit and not the sharpest person on the block. I can use my leadership to help the person get to where they need to.

I am not looking for a job and do not plan to be in the future so I have nothing to lose in that area. The thing that I don't like about posting too much information on here is the fact that everything that you post on here is totally public for anyone to read. I just don't feel comfortable posting my entire life history on a public bulletin board.

I think it depends on one's intent for being here. In my case, I don't use this for employment as RP isn't going to help my Federal Government career. I come here mainly for good thought provoking discussions. If someone uses this for employment, it is probably a good idea to flesh it out.

Some active military folks (both Active Duty and active Reserve/Guard) are afraid of repercussions for their comments here from small minded, thin-skinned folks that would go to their command if they disagree with posts - I've seen it from military-dot-com and other sites.

For me, I don't take people seriously without a photo and base information. I highly recommend using your profile if you are looking for a job. Otherwise relax and enjoy what we have here that civilians don't have - family. My profile is not complete and own my own international company and am in control of my own destiny. Glad to chat about it anytime.
